Great soup. Medium size restaurant and one of the best on 8th Ave. Great customer service. Really good noodle and meat dishes. Highly recommend!

It's been a while since we were here and a lot has changed. They closed down their huge basement dining area and the food could use a pick me up. Service is great thou. We had a good time since we pretty much the only customer booked for the whole dining room for a birthday. They are very accommodating and service is good enough. Food is good but I remember they used to be better. Sizzling beef should be sizzling but it barely any smoke. Rest of the food is up par but just not really good. The positive part is the fact the place is quieter and spacious than rest of the other places. We get to have a quiet and decent family dinner.

I have heard a lot of good things about this place and came for the first time recently for dinner with some friends. It is your typical Chinese restaurant and they have tons of dishes to offer! What I love about this restaurant compared to most is that they have a PICTURE menu with an English description written. Very appreciative of this and great way to get more people to come. We had a family style dinner and ordered 7 dishes to share. We ordered the shrimp with mayo, pork chop with peking sauce, salt & pepper squid, 1/2 garlic fried chicken, steamed crab over sticky rice, steamed fish and a soup. I was very disappointed with the shrimp with mayo. They dipped the shrimp in a fried batter which is not something other restaurants usually do. They also used jumbo shrimps rather than the regular sized shrimps which left us having one per person. The steamed crab over sticky rice have to be my favorite dish of the night! We noticed a few tables also got this dish so this restaurant must be known for it. I haven't had this dish in such a long time and it was so good. It can be quite messy to eat but it is worth it! This dish takes a while to make so place your order for it as soon as you sit down and it'll be ready when your other dishes come out. We were contemplating on getting a fish and the waitress recommended a fish that can be made into 2 dishes. She used the head to make a watercress tofu soup and steamed the body of the fish. This didn't taste bad but definitely not the best. This came out to $38.95. All the other dishes tasted really good and no complaints there. At the end of your meal they give you oranges and a sweet soup!

Decided to try Lucky Eight after doing extensive research (aka 20 minutes) trying to find a place to grab dinner in Brooklyn's Chinatown neighborhood. Right away you feel as if you stepped into an authentic Chinese restaurant based on the clientele, menu offering, and decor. We ordered the Roast Pork appetizer and the Sichuan Marinade Crispy Duck entree with a side of rice. I enjoyed the Pork, especially when mixed with soy and the spicy sauce provided for the table. Lots of flavor and mostly tender meat. The duck left a bit to be desired. I enjoyed the leg pieces that came with it, but almost everything else was just skin and fat. Both items were quite greasy, and I couldn't help but notice a hint of something that didn't quite fit in - almost like a metallic taste. Aside from the food, make sure you specify red or white wine to the server - we ordered two glasses of Cabernet but were given Chardonnay. We let it slide given these were only $5. On that note, the whole meal was very cheap considering how much food was provided. We took a hefty to-go box with us, but unfortunately it did not keep very well and we tossed it soon after re-opening.Wish I could have loved this place, but unfortunately the Chinese at more modern establishments or at certain Manhattan Chinatown places has left me more satisfied. Maybe I'll come back and try the fried rice or stir-fry. I'm sure many patrons love Lucky Eight, and won't deny the authenticity, but it just may not be for me.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. It's no cheap generic takeout place. It's authentic and always consistently excellent. The dishes are well-crafted, and have fresh ingredients. We always order their special Pride of Lucky Eight and then try different things in their extensive menu.

Lots of people were waiting to be seated at Lucky 8 when we arrived around 8:30 pm on a Saturday night but we were seated faster than I anticipated. Service is typical for Chinese restaurants and hot tea and sugary peanuts were waiting for us on the table. We ordered the "pride of lucky 8" - definitely don't miss out on this dish. It was a delicious concoction of abalone (tasted like octopus or squid) with Chinese leeks (crisp with mild flavor) and other vegetables, sprinkled with dried fish. Also tasty were the minced pork with eggplant and the Sichuan roasted duck. Prices aren't cheap but portions are massive, so we had leftovers to bring home. The Brooklyn Chinatown has a very different feel than the one in Manhattan so I recommend exploring a bit either before or after dinner at Lucky 8!

Wow. The roast pork and roast duck noodle soups are amazing ! The broth is so rich , the meats flavorful and the noodles perfect . The eggplant with garlic was delicious with onions and peppers. Very tasty! While we did not order any entree dishes, we observed all the beautiful food being served to the large tables with the lazy Susan's. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and delicious food!
