If you love seafood, then Lowerline is an absolute must-visit. This cozy neighborhood spot brings the flavors of New Orleans straight to Brooklyn, and their Head-On Barbequed Shrimp is a true standout. Cooked to perfection in a rich black pepper Worcestershire butter, each bite bursts with deep, smoky, and slightly tangy flavors that are simply irresistible. The shrimp are plump, juicy, and served in a way that encourages you to get a little messy--exactly how a great seafood meal should be enjoyed. To complete the experience, I highly recommend pairing it with a cold Abita Amber beer, which perfectly complements the bold and savory notes of the dish. The crisp, malty brew enhances the spice of the sauce and makes for a wonderfully satisfying combination.Beyond the food, what really makes Lowerline special is the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're dining solo at the bar, grabbing a casual meal with friends, or introducing someone new to the flavors of Louisiana, the friendly staff and laid-back vibe make every visit enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you can take your time, savor your meal, and truly feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic taste of Creole cuisine in New York, this is the spot to be.

Was craving something comforting to eat on a rainy, chilly night and thought of Lowerline. The space is pretty small/intimate, but they're efficient with seating and prompt. Was able to snag a bar seat and had a full view of the kitchen staff cooking and the owner himself shucking oysters and bartending. Very friendly staff and patrons, great food and hit the spot!Would've loved to order a po boy as well, but didn't want to over do it. Next time!

My friend and I were looking for a fresh place to try and Lowerline looked like the perfect little spot in the area. We were excited for the Cajun flavours and feel. When we entered on a winters night, it felt like a dry sauna in this tiny establishment that fit approximately 6 at the bar and had 4 two seat tables otherwise. The waitress was quick with water, but her demeanor gave off stress and annoyance, but she was courteous in interactions. I went with the Hurricane drink and my friend the Martini -- both very boozy, but good. I had a full gumbo, and she the Etouffe. I'm not sure if it's just every one I've had, but it is just an underwhelming salty water mess with bits of meat scattered throughout - a few shrimp, half a crab, and some slices of Andouille sausage in a pool of brackish brown soup. The Etouffe was a bit better, but the portion was small. Overall, the fare was fine, but the discomfort of the heat and the vibe given off by the stressed staff doesn't warrant another visit from us.

The Coffee panna cotta was the star of this meal, it was excellent with the right sweetness ratio. I wanted to love this place as my roots are in Louisiana but unfortunately both the PoBoy and Red Beans and rice was lacking in flavor. Crystal hot sauce cannot add flavor, only heat. +1 for having crystal hot sauce, +2 for the panna cotta.

This was a lovely gem! We stumbled in after some time at the museum and were seated without a wait. We shared the red beans and rice which was pretty good, and I tend to make it a lot at home. I ended up ordering the catfish po'boy -- I normally don't order a sandwich/po'boy but I figured I've give it a try. It could have been an off day but there was too small amount of catfish to the bread and dressing ratio. It felt off and ended up falling apart pretty quickly. I was disappointed by the catfish as well, it was pretty greasy and was mostly fried dough vs catfish. The saving grace was my husband's sandwich, which was really great! I ended up munching on more of that than I probably should have but I would go back for his roast beef sandwich. Service was great, friendly and attentive. We were also presented with a dessert at the end which was delicious and complimentary! If we're in the neighborhood we'll come back but it would be hard for us to go out of the way.

Popped in for a quick lunch and was very satisfied. The quarter muffuletta is still quite big and impactful. The thinly sliced meats and cheese paired with the olive spread was exactly what I needed. The perfect amount of salinity, not soggy, fresh local bread. This was a home run. This spot is smaller than I anticipated but they had good vibes and I liked the energy. They even offered a small after-meal dessert which was their coffee pana cotta, this is such a treat. A strong coffee flavor and a great, bouncy but smooth texture. Not many places you can sit down for a nice meal with options under $20. I look forward to returning.

A small, charming restaurant with attractive food options. Kind and attentive service the entire time. Food tastes very clean and simple. However, when I want southern cuisine, I'm looking for the bold, loud flavors that make it special, and this menu doesn't hit those notes.I asked for tartar sauce, which they didn't have, so my waitress sent out a tasty alternative. I forget its name--but I'd suggest that for anyone also looking for a flavor upgrade.

Ok, so here's the thing...I've been to New Orleans three times and I cook gumbo rather superbly...so keep this is mind.I want to give the overall experience a 3.5 BECAUSE of my heavy experience in the creole culinary arts.Husband had the gumbo, which was aiight because I prefer my roux THICK. flavor was finnnnnnneee, but again...you're hearing from a New Orleans visitor and gumbo maker.NOW - the highlight of the dinner was the assortment of fried goodness - shrimp, oysters and catfish. THEY KNOW HOW TO FRY SOME FOOD! ok?!!! and the complimentary panacotta was a sweet touch.Lastly, my shrimp po' boy was pretty good, too. But they played us with the size of it cus a "small" in American should never literally be small. a small in American is a medium and half...get it together.Would I return? yeah, probably.OH! and the service was fantastic! The place is super tiny, but they were sweet enough to call us when a table was ready. loved that.

So I met up with my boyfriend here after he's been wanting to go for some time. I can be picky and I also don't eat pork so I didn't have a lot of options. We went during happy hour so the oysters were half off. We probably had 4 orders. They were delicious. I ordered the half shrimp po'boy. My boyfriend ordered the crawfish étouffée. When I tasted his étouffée I had to get that to take home. It had just the right amount of spice. I can't wait to try that again. The restaurant was small, but we sat at the bar. The staff was pleasant. I had a hurricane drink which was also good.

Lowerline in Prospect Heights, a spot with a simple, yet cool vibe. Noticed the kitchen staff were all Latino cooks - a sure sign of a good meal ahead. My bartender, super friendly and on-point, served me up. Kicked off with a bit of Purple Haze for that New Orleans feel. Ordered the crawfish etouffee and half a oyster Po'Boy. Loved that they offer half orders - lets you mix and match bowl dishes with sandwiches. A fine way to sample their Cajun offerings. The fried oysters? Perfect. They're cooked in a time and temperature-controlled fryer, resulting in a light, crispy exterior and perfectly cooked interior - a rarity for oysters. They retained texture without the overcooked taste you often get. The bread on the Po'Boy was just right. But the etouffee was a standout. Rich, deep flavors with ample crawfish, not too spicy but with a hint of heat, superb over rice. Had to get a side of those fried oysters too - best I've ever had. In a way, the place reminded me of Arnold's Country Kitchen, renowned for elevating simple meals into something extraordinary. Lower Line is a gem. You've got to check it out.
