Forgettable at best and bad at worst - this place should not have a reputation. We placed an order online and it came out relatively quickly; this seems to be a better solution to the problem than whatever Rubirosa (similar style, around the corner) is doing. The pizza was a let-down though: small, nothing special about the ingredients, mediocre crust. Probably populated by tourists who read about this place in some outdated article.

So I have wanted to go here since we found out about it in 2016, but at the time we did not know they were a cash only business. So fast-forward to this year, I took my daughters on a little trip to New York and I said the one requirement was that we had to go to Lombardi's! It's definitely a time capsule and historic being the first pizza shop in New York City. The pizza itself is outstanding. I had the pepperoni and my older daughter had the Chicken Parmesan, which was also outstanding! However, the chicken fettuccine Alfredo that my younger daughter ordered was honestly terrible. It was super bland had no flavor whatsoever and the chicken tasted like it had been boiled and had no seasoning at all.Overall though, I would definitely go back, but would skip the chicken fettuccine Alfredo! Also, there are no free drink refills even on tea or fountain drinks and they give you a very tiny cup of your beverage for 3.50 each. Again, I wasn't a fan of those two things, but I would go again for the pizza and chicken parm!

Lombardi's is a historical spot -- the first pizzeria that ever opened in the U.S., according to all their decor. The spot also feels like a bit of a time capsule, with wooden booths and a bar in the back that look like they've been here forever (because maybe they have). We arrived here around 3:30 craving pizza and unwilling to stick it out for the wait at Rubirosa. We were told a table of 2 would take around 45 minutes to an hour to be available, so we decided to pregame this pizza (don't judge) with a slice from Upside Pizza around the corner. This greatly backfired since the beeper went off in less than 20 minutes, but no matter, we were here to eat pizza and we were going to accomplish our goal.We were promptly seated and served, opting for their pesto pizza to try something a little different. This was good pizza, super saucy and pesto-y with lots of cheese, but the crust for me was just alright. Worth a stop if you're checking the boxes on all the pizza NYC has to offer, but in retrospect I wish we would've stuck it out for Rubirosa around the corner.

Came on a weekday around 6pm and no wait at all. Plenty of tables were full and a few of the outdoor cots were also occupied. We opted for a table indoors. Once you step in, there are reminders of when this restaurant was established, in 1905! So it's definitely been around for a long time and it also claims to be americas first pizzeria, not too sure about that claim. I feel like so many restaurants claim to be the first of something. The service was decent, nothing to complain about. We ordered a meatball pizza and eggplant parm (app) to share. The pizza arrived piping hot with melted ricotta, which I really liked! However hubby thought it was too heavy. And I liked the eggplant parm, it was a breadless so much lighter version. The one complain I do have is the price, only two dishes we ended up paying $80, worth it? Not at all. Unlikely will come back. I just don't think paying for a small pie of pizza is worth over $30+ each! And also this is a cash only establishment! Overall pizza was ok, nothing too crazy special. Just completely overpriced.

Sure it's overpriced and the lines are ridiculous, but this is one of the few tourist traps that's actually worth the price and wait. They do personal pies, and the best in my opinion is the white pesto. We tried the margherita but found that it was a bit dry, and skimping on the cheese. To avoid waiting for too long, I would say to go on a random weeknight. If you can only go on a Friday night/weekend, stop in to get a beeper, and take a walk around or get drinks nearby while you wait.

This review will involve a different set of criteria than I usually employ. This is America's first pizza parlor. Let's start by Giving some respect for that. 119 years of making this pizza . Does my opinion matter? No, if you have been doing something three times as long as I've been alive I reckon you know more about it than me. That said we got the meatballs and the pepperoni pizza because that is what you do. They were amazing. The red/marinara sauce is probably the best I have ever had! The char on the bottom of the pizza was also legit and tasty. It was still a knife and fork pizza for the first 2 inches. Then you could fold it. The service was also great and they were very proud of where they worked or were at least trained with pride in where they worked. We would totally go back.

My husband loves Lombardi's. It's his GO TO when in NYC. I have taken the train to Lombardi's twice with my husband. The pizza is delicious. The servers are very polite and friendly. It seems like a small place , we always sit in the first room as you enter. They have great Italian desserts if you are into dessert. I'm just there for pizza.

My partner and I stopped by Lombardi's for an off-time meal and dined outside, where I enjoyed a glass of white wine, some bruschetta, and a classic regular pie. The bruschetta was refreshing with fresh tomatoes and basil, and the pizza was pretty good with a nice, classic flavor. However, the service left a lot to be desired, even though the restaurant wasn't busy when we visited. We felt a bit neglected yet rushed, which is a pet peeve of mine while dining, especially during non-peak hours. We'd consider coming back to try their famous clam pie, but only if we were already in the area and it was convenient.

Lombardi's is like an old, Jersey cover band. They stopped being good years ago, yet people keep on coming. Outside of the incredibly nice and friendly staff, there's absolutely nothing good about this place. The food is beyond mediocre - i.e. pizza tastes like Dominoes, sauce is bland and bitter, eggplant is mush, salads could be taken from the bar at Wegmans. Oh, and let's not talk about the small rats we saw crawl up the wall.
