Le Rivage welcomed us to Manhattan with open arms and some incredible French cuisine.Upon entry, they offer a coat-check service. As it was below freezing temperature outside during our visit, this was much appreciated.Service was great, through and through.Soft light and impressionist paintings frame each section of the restaurant, a home-like comfort. Seating is tight, as is expected in any French restaurant. From the menu, we ordered the house cocktail, French onion soup, lyonnaise salad, steak frites, and their famous French onion burger. The drinks were tasteful, the salad was light and refreshing, and we loved our entrees. For context, I have had French onion soup across the states, in England, and in France itself, and I cannot name a single restaurant that has a heartier, more comforting French onion soup than Le Rivage. Hands down.To speak frankly, this place was excellent.Come, enjoy the atmosphere, and eat well!Picture courtesy of Le Rivage NYC.

Amazing food. Excellent service. A great value. The food is something that excites the tastebuds! Anything I say wouldn't do this incredible food justice. Try it for yourself!

Stopped in after walking past this place for years when desperate for a table on Valentine's Day. In a way it confirmed why I've walked by it so many times. It really is a tourist trap type joint. While it has a nice ambience and overall pretty good service, the food just did not meet the price point. The French onion soup was pretty good. I will give it a 7.8. The steak frites was lame. Steak was flavorless. My wife ordered the French onion soup burger, which was pretty good, but didn't blow me away. Overall, we walked out of there with a $350 bill on what was very average food. Safe to say I'll leave the spot for the tourists going forward.

Restaurant was very welcoming and accommodating especially for a pre-theater meal. Three of us had the price fix and everyone was pleased. Portions were decent sized. Staff were great. We never felt rushed but when we were ready for the food and under pressure they worked their magic.

Went to Le Rivage after seeing a matinee performance of Cabaret and it was a perfect pick! The small cafe tables had a cabaret feel and the table lights lended a cozy feel to the room. I opted for the restaurant week special which included an onion tart, followed by broiled skate and a French cream filled beignet all for only $60. I started my meal with a Cabaret cocktail to stay in the mode of the show we had just seen. My mother and daughter both opted for the pretheater menu which was also a great deal at $70. They had a choice of app, entree and dessert. My tastings of their dishes included the coq au vin, mussels, the kohlrabi salad, seafood crepe, creme brûlée and the molten chocolate cake. All were delicious-no complaints at all! Our server was attentive and very friendly! We look forward to returning!

Comforting and cosy spot with live jazz. Food is amazing, very savoury and flavorful and wines are great. Is a staple for me. I tend to go slightly before prime time dinner time so it's not too busy. It's actually a decent sized space with a good amount of seats but can get very packed later in the night and feel very crowded with the lower ceilings. Dark, moody, classy, vintage.

We wanted to have a meal here due to the owner being on a podcast and YouTube channel we are fond of. This can be hit or miss. This was an absolute hit! We had the three course Prix Fixe for $70 which is an amazing value for this market and quality of food. All the dishes I tried were amazing and I was completely surprised by how much I like the Beaujolais Pair. If you like a desert that isn't too sweet this is perfect for you. The staff were welcoming and amazing from the coat check through the waiters and host. It was very packed and consequently a bit loud and close for us but this seems standard for New York. We are from the sticks. So it probably wouldn't bother an urbanite at all. If we go to New York again we would totally go back! Honestly we saw other peoples dishes and wanted to try a lot more of them. You can tell there is 3 generations of experience and knowledge behind the dining experience we had.

What a gem! The place is tres magnifique! Jeremy was our server and made our visit warm and personal! We had lunch on Saturday and everything was fantastic! French onion soup was spot on and escargot was incredible. The hamburgers were spectacularly prepared with great ingredients. We substituted green beans and brussels sprouts for the french fries and they were Happy to accommodate. Poached pear and berries for dessert were amazing too. I wish we had found Le Rivage sooner. Dix etoiles Paul!

We chose this restaurant because it was close to the theater we were going to after the meal. We both love French food so we thought this would be the perfect place to kick off our NYC trip. The ambiance is nice and the decor, while a bit old school, was warm and inviting. There was a certain buzz in the air as the place was filled with theater goers having a pre-show meal. And speaking of pre-show meals, the menu was a $70 prix fixe meal so that everyone could get in and out in a timely manner. Other times of day, they have a regular menu.We chose the Friseé Salad & Escargots as our first course, the Lamb Shank and Trout Almandine for our main course, and Molten Chocolate Cake and Crème Brûlée for dessert. The salad took us back to Paris where we would sit at a sidewalk cafe eating a Friseé salad for lunch most days. And I'll never forget having Escargot with my best friend on my first trip to NYC in high school. The other students were gagging at the thought of eating snails, but we were food adventurers and I've been a fan of them ever since. These were quite good, but I lamented the fact that they were not in shells. Instead they came in an odd metal dish which was blazing hot. It was a little tricky getting them out of the indentations without burning yourself or splattering butter and garlic all over the place. Our entrées were great. The Lamb Shank was perfectly cooked and the Trout was cooked perfectly. The layer of toasted almond slices combined with the lemon made this dish close to perfect. Desserts were a bit more pedestrian than the rest of the meal, but good nonetheless. And as promised, we all made it out of there in time to make it to the theater.Overall, I'd go back again. I'm always worried going to restaurants near Times Square as they are often geared to tourists who will probably never come back, so they often lean toward the bland and pedestrian. But this was an exception. It was a little pricey for what we got, but it fit our schedule to a tee.

If you're looking for an incredible French dining experience, look no further than Le Rivage! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and charm, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. The beef bourguignon here is hands down the best I've ever had--tender, rich, and full of flavor. The portion is generous, and the wine pairing was spot on.The service was exceptional. Our waiter, Diego, was attentive, friendly, and truly went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. His recommendations were perfect, and his genuine care made the experience even more special.Le Rivage is also an ideal spot for a pre-Broadway show dinner. It's conveniently located, and the atmosphere is cozy yet lively--perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal before heading to the theater.Highly recommend this gem if you're in the area. Can't wait to return! They even kept our Moncler beanie safe when we forgot it!
