La'Mode BK provided one of the most intriguing gastronomic experiences I have ever been associated with. Although we went with an initial Groupon, we were treated with respect, sincere affection and impartiality although we were perhaps new to the nuances of Caribbean cuisine, including fascinating spice combinations and heat that is an integral part of the texture and essence of vitality and dare I say healing. Who needs a pharmacy when you can have some even subtle spice in the palate background to clear energy channels and promote more focus? Unlike other restaurants or cultural institutions who may laugh at persons from the "outside." our hostess Tracy had class, our server Shanice was discreet and never one to impose her opinion and Anthony's timing juxtaposed with expansive tact was inspiring. I celebrate persons and institutions that do not promote an "us versus them" mentality while their elegant interactions promote how we are all members of the commonwealth of humanity. I am totally against congestion pricing and our dishonest politicians who are destroying businesses and the middle class, but I have to be grateful as I am learning there is more sincerity in anything but tourist traps in the outer boroughs. Tracy was transparently honest in telling us what dishes could be shared, Anthony had the power in mastering an unspoken dialogue knowing when plates could be cleared and Shanice never imposed her menu item opinion or tried to push more offerings just for the sake of statistics. In the process, my party did not feel like a fixed entity but rather active participants in a memorable dinner as I have rarely encountered. They exude class and the dishes were phenomenal. If a fried food was introduced (clearly stated on the menu) it was not impregnated in oil, The desserts are not excessively sweet and they have a talent in combining flavors where you can taste each ingredient that peacefully coexists with the sum of the parts combination. In other words, two cultures can combine, but each individual component preserves the essence embodying radiance and forward-thinking progress. Bravo !

This was my second visit to this Caribbean fusion restaurant, and it didn't disappoint! I tried a coconut mocktail that was absolutely delicious, and the wings were just as tasty! I sat at the bar, and the service was excellent--attentive and friendly. It's a great spot for both great food and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back for more!

This is such a great place. My friend and I were able to get a weekend dinner reservation a day in advance. We were greeted by a woman I believe the be the owner. She was very warm and welcoming. Once we were seated we were introduced to our server. The menus are on iPads. You can select your items there and have your server review and add items from iPad.Appetizers: escovitch fish bites was a large portion/ enough to share and very delicious Also ordered the escovitch shrimp with bang bang sauce. So good! Entree: jerk chicken was good but it doesn't taste like it was marinated for a long time. The sauce was good but the chicken itself was ok. You are allowed two sides. Orders rice and peas with plantain We also ordered the macaroni which is delicious! Definitely order.the cheesy mashed potatoes needs work. It needed, butter and salt. The only flavor was the cheese thrown on top. Drinks were good. Not stingy with alcohol. They did take a long time to come. They came after our food was served. Bar may need additional staff for weekends. This place has two levels. It appears to accommodate large groups/ private events on the 2nd floor

I was able to stop by while I was in New York visiting family. I was the first of our party to get there and was able to meet one of the owners. He was very kind and told me a little bit about his history in the restaurant business, along with his wife. We were seated in the upper level where it has more of an Asian vibe. The owner stated that the restaurant is supposed to be a Caribbean-Asian fusion. The decor was beautifully done. You feel like you're in the Caribbean downstairs, which is contrasted with the Asian theme up top. I had the oxtail dinner with rice and beans. My sister had the pasta and she added jerk chicken to it and my cousin had the escovich fish. The food was very flavorful, but almost everything was really spicy. That is not a bad thing for me, but I would say if you are not big on spice, then please be aware before you order.

We came here after spending time at the Brooklyn Museum. When you enter the restaurant, the Caribbean and Asian fusion theme is prevalent. The afrobeats playing throughout blends with the colors, murals, and Asian decor upstairs. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, checking in with us and refilling our water. The ginger martini was refreshing and not overpowering, and my love ordered the Lychee martini which she enjoyed. The cod fish cakes were phenomenal, and the sweet chili sauce paired with it perfectly. We ordered the fish to share, and we both had plenty between us. I'm a huge fan of fried snapper, and this did not disappoint. The flavors jumped off the table, and it had a great crisp to it. The vegetables and plantains were cooked perfectly, and the jasmine rice and rice and peas were well seasoned. I enjoyed the festivals, as they were more flaky than I'm used to. I look forward to future visits here, as I'm sure it's a vibe in more crowded times.

LaMode bk is beautiful! The food is good. The drinks are strong. This place is too empty. Grab your friends. Bring a boo. They have ladies nights, karaoke nights, discount nights for city workers and a beautiful staff. The happy hour food is a must! Jerk tacos with chicken or shrimps, wings, escovitch bites. Careful that you don't bite down on a scotch bonnet pepper unawares because the spices here are HOTTT! Beautiful place. I can walk here from my home. I've been to LaMode bk twice this week. This is it. I have found my place.

- good vibes- good music- there was no DJ at the times I went, but the music was groovy- they do advertise DJ'd events- nice owners- friends and conversational staff- on the expensive side- bartenders are craftsmen- hour bottomless mimosa on weekends- ive been here a few times and haven't had a bad meal yet- it's open early in the day- waiters can be aloof sometimes, but that's no scene

La'Mode has been on my list for a long time! The restaurant fuses Caribbean and Asian food and the flavors are there. I ordered so much food that I had leftovers for two days. The portion size makes the price worth it. La'Mode has an upstairs seating area and they play Caribbean music. My food recommendations: - Codfish fritters: good mix of spice and you get 5 fritters which I appreciated!- Fried Rice: has a mix of good veggies with good flavor. It was not super oily and the portion size was huge. I thought it could be an entree by itself. - Jerk chicken: if you like spice, that jerk sauce has it. Also, the jerk chicken tastes like someone made it on an outside grill. Very authentic. - Baked mac and cheese: tastes like it was made in someone's house and you can tell they use different cheeses to make it! The drinks are also delicious. We only had mocktails: Thai basil lemonade and the lychee Mojito. Both were delicious. A lot of the drinks have coconut in them so if you're a fan of coconut, this is a spot for you. Honestly, I'm trying to go through the whole menu because the food was so good so just go! The service did take a bit of time but the food and drinks were freshly made and prepared.

Mistakenly thought this would be a good place to celebrate my father's 70th birthday. Here are all the things that went as poorly as they could:1. The hostess was surprised by our party of 5 arriving on time for our reservation despite having confirmed 3 times during the month. She had to drag tables together and clean them in front of us.2. She gave us water after at least 10 minutes after being seated. We did not receive glasses to drink said water until 20 minutes after being seated--only 4 for a party of 5.3. No question about what allergies we might have.4. We ordered one pork and one veggie dumpling. What we got was one pork and one chicken. My cousin, the vegetarian, unfortunately found out that the order was chicken and not veggie.5. Approximately over an hour after putting in our food orders, they came to tell us that there was no more "curry goat" so we had to order something else. The excuse was having a party of 40--well-managed establishments have a pre-fixe menu for large parties, increased staff and sufficient ingredients.6. We didn't start getting our food until two hours after being seated. My cousin got hers first, 15 mins later my father, and then 10 minutes later the rest of us.7. The food was mediocre at best. My jerk chicken was on a small plate and my peas and rice was in a bowl. Small thing but made eating both at the same time more difficult than it would have been to put it on the same plate or to provide a plate for eating. For our troubles, they gave us a generous 5% discount ($13.35). Still paid for $324.19 (18% automatic gratuity). For this price point, I expect a lot better.

Let me start off by saying upon entry, no one was there to greet nor seat us. We decided to sit at the bar and wait until the rest of our party arrived. While at the bar, we had been sitting for 20 minutes with out being welcomed or given an option to place an order. Since I was meeting family there, my cousin explained that he experienced the wait time but was given a reason of " busy/overwhelmed". The establishment had party of two in the restaurant.Nevertheless, since I was meeting family, I said let me overlook this baseline customer service issue, and place an order. After sitting for the 20 minutes, we had to request a MENU... very strange since this business is providing a service and in my my mind one of the main goals is to get guests to spend money...Anyway, my cousin had a beautiful chocolate martini, based off the presentation of that drink, I ordered one with my dinner.... what i received was a watered down, no presentation drink and when I pointed out that it doesn't look like my cousins drink, the bartender said " I'm overwhelmed and I got you next time"... sighs, remember customer service.. what is that? Tip, presentation matters.. customer service matters and for me it's a priority.. it balances out for poor quality food..Speaking of food, items that were on the menu were not availble, unfortunately. I thought, establishment just opened for the day, and don't have items for me to purchase on the menu.. sighs... In addition, I ordered Dumplings as an appetizer ( amazing) Red Snapper Escovitch, with rice and peas and veggies. The fish was amazing, the veggies weren't so bad but the rice was horribly sticky. The consistency of the rice was like mash potatoes...In Conclusion, my family and I agreed, we will not go back to this restaurant.. it lacks quality food, and most importantly customer service!
