Delicious French food. Simply delicious.I like to splurge on good food when I'm in New York. Italian restaurants yes, but I find good French restaurants far and few.The pate appetizer was really good (fuller than a Vietnamese pate). The side mustard and pickled veggies added to the flavor. The star: steak with fries gras on top, was killer. Rich savory duck on top of a good steak with truffles on top. Yum.5/5 would recommend.

Food: 2/2Service: 0.5/1Atmosphere: 1/1Value: 0.5/1Total: 4/5TLDR: solid standard French cuisine in a great neighborhood location. We ordered the seafood linguine, beef tongue and salmon. We were with my in laws who aren't the most adventurous, otherwise we would've also considered the escargot or tartare! Everyone was very happy with what they got, including the excellent complimentary bread and butter. Knocked a little bit off for service since half our table was missing cutlery in the beginning, but the wait staff was nice and attentive otherwise. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the classic French bistro decor inside. The space isn't huge, but we didn't feel squished. Also knocked a bit off on value, but I don't think it's much higher than other French places in the neighborhood.

I went to this excellent long running French spot a while back with two others. I believe we were sat on the Taureau side as the restaurants are connected but I might be mistaken which had good enough lighting for photos though slightly dark. The staff was friendly and refilled waters and gave recommendations as well as specials. The menu has rather long descriptions along with a couple notes from the place which was a fun touch. As per normal for French spots, they gave some bread which was crusty and tasty.I started with the Tartelette de Chèvre frais aux Echalotes, Truffes, Raisins Confits et Voile de Vieux Gruyère or Baked Goat Cheese Tart with Shallots, Truffles, Grape, and a Veil of aged 180 days Swiss for $25. This consisted of two separate tarts topped with said mixture as well as a nicely composed side salad. The goat cheese tart was excellent with the rich funky cheese being balanced by the sweetness of the glaze. This was excellent and large enough for two to share and I would recommend it.I tried a bit of the signature Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée or French Onion Soup au Gratin for $15 from another person which was excellent. Nice rich broth with plenty of cheese and another decent portion. Would recommend as well. My signature was the Tournedos Rossini or Seared Filet Mignon Topped With Foie Gras, Shallots, Port Red Wine, and Truffle Sauce for $51. The dish was rich and delicious as expected with the very tender filet mignon topped with the soft warm foie gras. The little bit of truffle on top of said foie added some earthiness and everything was covered with a very well prepared and complex red wine sauce. There was potatoes on the side of the plate which I'm pretty positive was potatoes pavé which had a good texture and said potatoes were nice mixed into the rich red wine sauce along with the rest of the crusty bread of course. This is apparently the most popular dish here and it stings me a bit that it used to be $36 but that was then and the price is unfortunately expected now and I would still recommend it at $51 which is saying something.I tried a tiny bit of the other people's dishes, They got the Magret de Canard (Seared Moulard Duck Breast) and the Carré d'Agneau au jus de truffes (Frenched Rack of Lamb.) I'd say more but I don't remember much outside of them being tasty and the sear being perfect on the duck.My dessert was the Tarte Tatin a la Mode or Short Crust with Caramelized Sliced Apple Served with Vanilla Ice Cream for $10. This can be served flambéed with Calvados/apple brandy but I decided not to order it that way. Very tasty as well with a good soft apple topping and a well prepared pastry. Not the best I've had but still good. One of them Iles Flottantes, Anglaise Maison, or Whipped Egg White Meringue Covered with Blond Caramel with a light Vanilla Custard for $11. They had asked me what dessert was lighter and I recommended that one and they liked it. I tried a bit and it was basically just a better version of the one at Bistro Vendome with a tastier caramel and a good fluffy meringue. also solid. The other got 3 pieces of the Croque en Bouche Au Caramel Blond Effile which I tried a bit of which had a nice texture.Yes, this place is expensive even by most French bistro standards. But, this is a long-running spot in SoHo and I'm going to essentially compare it to some of the other old school spots like the excellent Chez Napoleon and by that comparison, it's excellent. No real complaints for any of the food outside of the price point. I would go back and probably try the cassoulet (very likely will happen some day upcoming in the next few months in winter as long as they stay open and that's very very likely.) Mid 4.

We booked this French restaurant since we missed France and wanted to try the French food scene in NY (which is not so great in the Bay Area) ... and well La Sirène surely didn't disappoint! We were greeted by the owner himself. I was happy to see that he spoke French, since I speak fluent French myself! He had a restaurant in Paris before moving to New York. I knew already that this was going to be a great meal. Onto the food. For apps, we got the French onion soup and the ravioli. The ravioli sauce was the perfect creamy texture paired nicely with some truffle oil. The onion soup was very flavorful but could definitely tell that it is vegetarian broth based, not beef. The cheese is very melted with just the right amount of bread, and you can definitely taste the smoky burnt flavor on the top of the cheese (which is a plus for me but not everyone likes that flavor) - a solid 4/5 for just the soup (as rated by my girlfriend who is a French onion soup enthusiast). For main course, we got the Filet Mignon topped with a thin slice of Foie Gras. It was simply delicious. Paired with the perfect sauce (slightly on the fruity side, really balanced out the heaviness of the foie gras). We also got the Hangar Steak which is a recipe I've never had before. Quite unique with the grilled garlic (a lot of it!). Just a bit oily but we didn't mind it. The food also came with a plate of veggies. the owner definitely put a lot of thought into the menu and his customers - they do say amex only for credit cards but they are flexible if you just talk to them! Overall we highly recommend this place for a taste of Paris!

I fell in love with this place! Very cozy yet feels like you're in a small french restaurant in Paris when you step inside! The food was excellent. I usually don't like the Pate but this place made it so well balanced that i need to get more. I like how they have 2 pages on the menu describe kinds of wines and where is it from. Even person who love wine like me, im still not very knowledgeable about it. So I found it very fun and useful to look at. They offer BYOB but the whole meal has to pay in cash only. That's pretty fair. Servers were very nice and attentive. I will definitely come back!

It's a solid French place! Pretty small and doesn't have a lot of tables to sit at - really feels like restaurants in France in that way. The menu includes the chef's notes for almost each food item, it's very cute! We got to foie gras au torchon as an appetizer that was pretty good and the hanger steak for entree. Hanger steak was pretty small in size but tasted good. I didn't love their house wine personally but it was well priced. Service was fairly quick. Overall I would say it's a solid option but not one I feel like I have to go back to

We came here for the restaurant week menu and our anniversary. It was a cute little restaurant that we almost missed because it was unassuming. Inside was decorated with paintings of Paris. We asked for the restaurant week menu since they handed us the regular menu. They were very polite. We were originally going to get the house Bordeaux but the waitress said that the Cabernet Sauvignon was much better so we took her up on it. She was right the wine was fantastic and paired very well with the steaks. My husband was kind enough to let me have both appetizers and he got both desserts. I got the foie gras and the escargot. The foie gras was buttery and really did melt in my mouth. The sweetness of the apple and grape confits complemented the saltiness of the foie gras. The bread added a different texture to the dish. The escargot was the most tender snails I've ever had. Unfortunately, it didn't taste like much even with the sauce. Our main dish were the hanger steak and the filet mignon. We asked for medium rare and they were cooked to perfection. The meat was a little tough. Both sauces were very good and we used the bread to soak up the remaining sauce. My husband had both the choux chantilly which was puff pastries and the croquant au caramel which had a hard candy shell with spun sugar on top. He said they were both very good. The service was great. They were attentive. When we finished the bread, they brought more. They kept filling our water glasses whenever it was low. There's a 5% discount if you pay cash. We were very happy with our meal.

Best foie gras I have ever had, including in France! If you're a fan of foie gras, or just wanting to try it out, this is the place to go (and spend the extra $$ on the seared foie gras!!) It was warm, melt in your mouth, absolutely deliciousness. We also got the steak tartare and escargot for apps and they were good but the foie gras was by far the star of the show. For entrees, we got the duck breast, seared hanger steak, and the braised rabbit, which were all good (hanger steak was my favorite). If you have a heavier palate and enjoy bursts of flavor, I would perhaps avoid the rabbit as it was on the lighter side for taste profile. Service was excellent, the restaurant felt super cozy and intimate. Only downside is they only accept Amex or cash, so be prepared!

The place is small and cute.Came here for a birthday celebration. We ordered escargot, duck, and quail.Escargot were large and juicy. The best I've ever had.The duck was cooked perfectly.Unfortunately, some parts of the quail were overcooked.Definitely would come again.
