This super small ramen joint is yummy, and I highly recommend it. Oh, and when I say super small, it really is! There are truly only a handful of tables available for patrons to sit. So, if it's not cold outside, put your name in and wait your turn for a yummy experience!!It was our first virus to Kohoku this night he, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Just check out my photos; your mouth will be watering! To start, I recommend the wings, the gyoza, and the yakitori. As for ramen, you'll be happy with any you try. Trust! If you are on HK and jonesing for some tasty Japanese cuisine, check this place out! You'll be glad you did!

Arrived here on a Saturday at around 6pm. After a half hour wait, we were seated. There are only around 6 tables and a few individual seats, so the place gets packed very quickly. Service is rather quick and ramen is fortunately one of the fastest dishes to eat, so the line does move somewhat fast as long as you're in the front. The menu has a variety of enticing appetizer options for sharing. We were looking for a quick meal so we opted for only the mains, acknowledging the plentiful small dishes like yakitori selections, takoyaki, and agedashi tofu for next time.I got the Kumamoto Ramen, which had a flavorful pork bone broth and firm noodles (only right way to go with ramen if you ask me). The ingredients for this ramen were all interesting, especially since you truly cannot go wrong with chashu pork, shishito pepper, bok choy, scallions, and a soft boiled egg. Yet, the small portion size left me wanting more. Once you are done with the one pepper, one bok choy, 2 very small pieces of pork, and egg, you really are wondering where your $18 went. I've had better and cheaper ramen all around St. Marks, and left with a fuller belly. My friends got the Miso Ramen and Kara-age Chicken Curry Rice Donburi. Despite my friend getting it spicy, the Miso Ramen lacked flavor and was the least favorite of the table. The Kara-age chicken was nicely battered and crisp and the curry was quite delicious, but the plate size was rather small to get full. The ambiance is cool and with few small sized tables, the place really has a Japanese joint feel. We made our payment quickly at the front and were in and out within the hour.

If you're looking for traditional ramen - don't come here. The soup was super thick and hard to drink. The flavor itself was okay, a bit salty. The noodles were cooked well and the pork belly was tender. If the soup was normal it would've been a lot better. The tempura sweet potato was really good, like sweet potato fries. The dipping sauce it came with was okay, would skip. The service was fast and the servers were very nice. The inside decorations were cute and like a Japanese izakaya. There's coat hooks everywhere to put up your jacket. It's a small restaurant so not much seating and it's a tight space.

Unfortunately, this place was very mid. The service is slow - took forever to even get water though the food is ready pretty quick. We got the Spicy Tonkatsu and Kumamoto Ramen. It was pretty heavy and quite salty. Definitely feel like there are wayyy better ramen options in the city.

This was a small, packed-to-the-brim, popular restaurant. Very cute décor and cozy vibes, I really wanted to love this place!Basic ramen prices are around $18, which is reasonable. Unfortunately, the items we tried were mediocre or worse. Maybe it was just an "off" day since they have a lot of usually great reviews! The kara-age chicken here is really bland. It's like the chicken is completely unseasoned... just breaded and fried straight. If you told me they forgot to marinade the chicken that day, I wouldn't be surprised. They need to add more ginger, garlic, soy sauce, and salt into the marinade and let the meat soak those flavors in for a while before breading and frying. You'll have to try to rescue this menu item with the mayo-based sauce they give you on the side. The tonkotsu ramen was strange. The broth was weirdly thick in texture. I'm guessing they ran out of broth and had to stretch it with water, but then it became too runny, so they had to add starch. It was not rich in flavor at all as you'd expect from tonkotsu broth, just thick. Have you ever had the canned cream of chicken by Campbell's? It was like a watery version of that, but pork instead of chicken. The chashu pork meat was also tough and not melt-in-your-mouth soft. They needed to cook it longer over slow heat. The Kumamoto ramen was better, but not excellent. It also had a thickness to the broth, but at least the flavor was present. The black garlic oil likely saved the taste of the broth in this one.I was disappointed in this place, but I went there about half an hour before closing on a Saturday. It's possible they were just low on the good stuff. Mileage may vary, so try it out yourself!

My favorite ramen spot when I go see a Broadway show! This is my treat myself/happy place. Also, their takoyaki is everything you didn't know you needed. So is the purple sweet potato tempura and Karaage. Also, service is super fast and efficient. The space is very small and cozy, you'll probably share personal space with the table next to you but it adds to the atmosphere. Also, the bathroom is trippy. I won't spoil it for you. You have to see if for yourself!

Kohoku-Ku Ramen is such a cute little ramen shop on the west side of the city. They mainly have small tables so this spot would not be recommended for a huge party. My friend and I came on a Tuesday night around 6pm and all of the tables were full, so we had to wait a little bit. We were seated pretty quickly anyway. We ordered the kara-age to share and then we each chose our own ramen. The kara-age was crispy and juicy; no complaints. I got their Kumamoto Ramen and my friend got the Spicy Tonkatsu ramen. The bowls were full of flavor! The broth was so rich and creamy, which reminded me of Japan. The noodles were the perfect texture; bouncy and chewy. And the meats were tender and delicious. Service was pretty quick too. If you're looking for a warm and cozy meal, this ramen spot will hit.
