My husband and I came to Katsuya for our anniversary. The ambiance was beautiful, it gave us Tokyo Vice vibes, if you know you know. The music was a vibe. The food was delicious from beginning to end. We would recommend the following :For appetizers, we had the Crispy Rice, Katsu Chicken and Mochi Potato Balls. For Main Entrees, we had the Cod and Short RibThe service was wonderful! We were very grateful for our time there and we will definitely be back.

AVOID this restaurant at all costs. My husband was FOOD POiSONED after dining at Katsuya on the evening of Tuesday, Feb 18 for a work team dinner. I am writing this review because he is still debilitated from the incident and to warn others. He ordered an assortment of dishes from the Katsuya Classics portion of the menu, which included raw fish. None of his coworkers order what he did so they luckily dodged a bullet. He suffered from most of the food poisoning symptoms -- extreme nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps severe diarrhea, fever and fatigue. He has reported this incident to NYC's 311. The other reviews on this place that warn about the poor food quality and uneven food temperatures are true. The service is absolute crap too. This is a responsible review. You have been warned. Put simply, DO NOT EAT HERE!!

As Larry David would say, "it's a shanda." Katsuya has fallen and fallen quickly. We were shocked to find it 75% empty at 7:30 on a beautiful Saturday evening. The menu looked as if it had been xeroxed and was hard to read. The menu seemed to have been paired down from previous visits and the food we ordered was bland. The staff does not appear to be well trained either. They also do not appear to have very good inventory control, at least of their wine. We ordered the Far Niente Chardonnay which was on their menu and were told they did not have it. They then offered us a bottle of Knuttel California Chardonnay, which retails for $9.99, for $81. When we said no, they brought us the Far Niente Chardonnay. Interesting!

Mostly good food in a chic environment. I would rate 3.7 stars. The appetizers were great with the wagyu gyoza and spicy crispy tuna rice being quite delicious. However, the crab roll hand roll was tasteless and felt overpriced. For the main course, the Katsu snapper was okay, but it lacked taste and also seemed overpriced. While the lemon salmon rolls were fresh, the lemon was overpowering. For desserts we tried the mango mousse and the miso chocolate cake. Both were tasty, but we were not blown away. Also, I didn't taste any miso in the cake. The service was really nice. Overall, while I enjoyed my meal, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

The ambiance is great but it is in a mall which gives it about -5 points. Though it's a great place for a group and the food is amazing. A little pricey in my opinion though.

Coincidentally ended up here after attending a yelp event last year! Would say it lived up to the last time I was here.Had quite a delicious meal with some colleagues last night. Some of my favorites were the crispy rice (of course!), the crispy brussel sprouts, and the Katsuya roll. The food tasted fresh and high quality. Service was friendly too, albeit on occasion a bit slow. Would recommend for anyone looking to impress out of towners.

Unfortunately a very average dining experience.Prior to dining at Katsuya, I read the reviews on Yelp and OpenTable and approached this experience with cautious optimism. The reviews on OpenTable were all contributed by the same three usernames several different times which leads me to believe the staff are making reservations and seating them so they can write 5-star reviews to bolster Katsuya's overall mediocre score. Despite all of this information, I still wanted to try their famous baked crab handrolls. We arrived at 6 on a Tuesday and the dining room portion of the restaurant was largely empty but there was a decent crowd at the bar. Our waiter Michael was very kind. We ordered all at once: a KuraKura cocktail and three appetizers: the spicy tuna on crispy rice ($23), the baked crab handrolls ($23), and the rock shrimp ($25). The tuna and rock shrimp came out fast, and we finished them both before my drink arrived. The tuna portion was tiny! I always enjoy rock shrimp but here there was hardly any sauce and the dish was bordering on bland. I'll also mention we didn't have any plates so we ate off of the appetizer plate directly. I was most excited for the crab handrolls but they were pretty average and lacking significant flavor. At this point we decided not to order any more food and to try somewhere else for our main courses. The reason for the two stars is a combination of the price:enjoyment ratio and the lack of polish regarding the service--no plates and the cocktail should have arrived before the food.

This restaurant is a chain, and the one in New York here is located on 10th Ave and 33rd Street across from Hudson Yards. You have to walk up a number of stairs to get to the restaurant, they have an elevator to help those with disabilities. Chicken at the front, you can walk past their nice little sushi bar where you can see the chefs making the sushi. Was seated pretty quickly and joined my table of colleagues and diners. I had the corn which was actually quite good, sweet and succulent little bite with a rich savory butter flavor. A piece of the tomahawk short rib was fantastic, with a little crunch from what I think was fried garlic and meat that melted in your mouth. Sauce there was pretty reasonable too. The miso cod disappointed as the miso was okay, I red miso on top of a pretty large piece of cod. The downside is that the miso didn't flavor beyond the surface so the middle was just heavy cod and little flavor other than oily. Given the size of the piece, there was also bones which I'm okay with but might surprise those who aren't used to having bones in their fish.Had a simple ice cream matcha tea. No thought of any server asking if I wanted to refill when it was empty. Had to ask someone to get a refill of water even. We ordered some desserts to share and they didn't bother bringing spoons to help us share it. Guess they weren't paying attention there were seven of us. The Molten chocolate cake was okay but lacked much melt in the center, the green tea ice cream with that was the best part. The mango mousse was to too warm, it would have been much better chilled properly. And the Japanese cheesecake was light and fluffy but I'm not a cheesecake guy so I didn't enjoy the dessert portion as much as I thought I might. The bar area next to the dining zone gets very loud as the evening progresses so it's hard to talk with people unless you're close and yelling. Keep that in mind if you come a little bit later on a busy Thursday or Friday night.

I decided to check out Katsuya with a coworker for dinner after a long day of work. We were in the mood for sushi and cocktails, and Katsuya was able to seat us right away around 7 PM. The restaurant's dark and moody ambiance provided a luxe dining atmosphere - no small feat given that Katsuya is located inside of a food court.I started with the "With Love from Kyoto" cocktail, which is sweet yet sophisticated. For our appetizer, we ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, which was easily the highlight of the meal. The crunchy, toasty rice was blanked in buttery, spicy tuna.Next, we ordered the Chef Katsuya's baked crab handrolls, rock shrimp tempura roll, and a variety of nigiri - o-toro (fatty tuna) and hamachi (yellowtail) - and ikura (salmon roe). Overall, I appreciated how the flavor combinations aren't over the top, which lets the freshness of the fish take center stage.Throughout the meal, our server checked up on us frequently, and our sushi rolls were brought out in a timely fashion. We had a wonderful time at Katsuya and would definitely go back for a decadent sushi dinner.

Katsuya is definitely more of a TikTok-hyped restaurant. I wouldn't have considered coming if not for a friend's birthday. Overall, I wasn't disappointed but not exactly impressed. The famous spicy tuna crispy rice did taste pretty good. The rice becomes chewy, almost like mochi, so that was interesting to experience. At the very least, there were plenty of options for soy paper or cucumber rolls for those who avoid seaweed. I was okay with my Katsuya, Manhattan, and Salmon Lemon roll. Nothing was stand out. What was unexpected about the Salmon Lemon roll to me was that there were actual lemon slices on it. I thought the salmon would just have lemon juiced on top. Katsuya definitely does not serve traditional sushi. I came with a decent sized group and we shared quite a few appetizers, too. Again, nothing really blew my mind, which I believe sums up my review.
