You can't go wrong with John's deli. I was back in Brooklyn for 24 hours (I live 2200mi away!) and this was a MANDATORY stop. That should tell you something. It's that good!

Stopped in for dinner while waiting for a friend Cant believe I went most of my life and never tried johns deli. The motor oil gravy makes the sandwich. I'm not a big gravy person but whatever they use if so tasteful. The roast beef is cooked a perfect temperature and the fresh Italian bread put all tote her along with some mozzarella and yum. I know most add the onions but me and them dont like each other. There are 3 locations you can visit. Just wish the one in Staten Island was a little closer. They seem to be getting farther away as they moved addresses a few times.

They have limited cheese options; when I inquired, they mentioned only having American cheese. However, it's a convenient place to visit if you're in a rush and need to grab a quick meal.

Disappointing - in a neighborhood full of great sandwich shops, it's almost an incentive not to try a new place. You can walk 10 minutes to a couple of long time, established places that have a laundry list of 5 star reviews and sandwiches that would give you back pain trying to carry back to your house. With that said, I decided to try John's rather than hit up my typical go-to's, to see if they were worth adding to the rotation. We got a few sandwiches, and while none of them were terrible, none were anything we'd order again. The Godfather was an offer that anyone should refuse - there were literally 4 pieces of cold cuts in the sandwich, on a very average piece of supermarket Italian bread. The other heroes were hot sandwiches - which, were also skimpy but not as egregious as the pictured Godfather. They were also blandThey're a local business so I hope they pick up their game, but this visit was a bust. This neighborhood has a lot of competition in this space, sandwiches like this just aren't going to get it done.

John's has finally come to Brooklyn!Oh wait, John's has always been in Brooklyn.Well, John's is finally in South Brooklyn! No wait, their flagship location is in Gravesend.Ok, I think I got it - John's is finally within walking distance of my parents' house! There we go.If you don't know John's, you need to. It's one of the best sandwich shops in all of NYC. The roast beef with gravy is ::chef's kiss::They have menus all over the web, but they don't actually deliver, so go pick up your order. Or just call it in.We got the hot roast beef (with fresh mozz, caramelized onions, and gravy), and the chicken parm, and a side of the fried ravioli. It was all obviously delicious. I wish the roast beef had just a tad more gravy though. I remember it being more of a messy sloppy sandwich. Also moist. So moist. The fried ravioli (stuffed with ricotta) must be like 2,000 calories apiece, but they're so good. Good tomato sauce for dipping as well. They have street seating, but also a big takeout window. Strangely enough, their food was packaged in bags from other restaurants. I don't remember it being their schtick. Maybe they just bought some cheap overstock from some random Chinese restaurant and Dean & Deluca.

I've tried numerous local spots for hero's. I love to dip my roast beef heros in a really thick gravy. By far, hands down, the best gravy is here. I order through Uber eats and every week I get the John's Signature Roast on a hero with mozz and the caramelized onions and gravy on the side (to not make it too soggy during delivery).. plus an extra order of a large gravy. I LOVE the sweet, tangy taste. And when I dip the hero in the gravy and it becomes this sloppy mess, dripping down my hands and the corners of mouth, I don't care. When I eat this, I change into ratty old clothes so I don't give a **** about the mess I'm about to make.I also love ordering a bacon egg n cheese on a roll. They always follow my special instructions on crispy, no jiggly fats on the bacon. And my large coffee with half & half, sweet, but not too light is always on point.I've tried the rice ball special with mozz, ricotta, and sauce. They split it which i love cause it's so large I can only eat half at a time. It reheats in a pan beautifully! Not a huge fan of the Mac n cheese... And really it's only cause no one makes it like I do. But since I have no oven in my tiny basement apartment, Im trying to find one that's closest to mine. I still ate the entire plate I ordered though!I keep wanting to try new heros but I'm stuck on the signature roast right now. I definitely recommend this joint!

Stale pizza just like their sister restaurant next block over. No flavor in the "infamous" roast beef sandwich, how does this place stay open all these years?

Delicious sandwich menu and great prices. Able to sit indoor or outdoor. Loved it! I recommend any sandwich with their fresh kozarella and brocollini!

I have mixed feelings about this score - John's roast beef sub (and especially the gravy) is one of the best sandwiches I've had anywhere. And the fish and deli meats are wonderful as well. But....I'm eating a Godfather sub right now that's got all the meat...but nothing more. None of the "tomato salad" mentioned in the Grubhub description - nor the ability to leave a note asking them to make sure to include tomato or anything else. And this isn't the first time it's happened - the fish sandwich I ordered a few months ago didn't include the lettuce and tomato shown in the photo and, again, no way to request them (or tartar sauce for that matter). Which is disappointing, because the sandwich I thought I was ordering - the sandwich I wanted to receive - is not the sandwich I am eating. And, needless to say, no way to ask for mustard, olive oil, mayo, or any other condiment. If I had one wish, it would be that the sandwich I receive be the one pictured or described. If I had a second wish, it would be that there be the opportunity to select toppings and condiments the way I can with so many other restaurants. I'll keep ordering from John's...but until then, I guess I'm sticking with the roast beef sub - that one never disappoints.

Went after Petco. So famous here, but don't think the sandwich has much flavor. Will give a try again.
