The famous Joe's Shanghai. The OG soup dumplings spot, at least from what I remember. This Chinatown location is pretty large and modern compared to the old location a few blocks away. The soup dumplings still hits the spot and they have a bunch of other classic family style dishes that will also. My go to favorites are Kung Pao Chicken, String beans with minced pork, Mapo Tofu and Shanghai Fried Flat Noodles. Don't forget the scallion pancakes and dip it in the soy sauce that's provided. Service is acceptable and dishes come out quick. Always a solid time here.Parking will always be tough in Chinatown but there's a parking garage a few feet away.

Cute little place in ChinaTown but not incredibly outstanding. Starting with the dumplings, they were pretty dry and the soy sauce was so salty it was just not a good pairing. Now onto the noodles, also felt really dry. Couldn't eat them. What saves my review are the sautéed veggies and the sesame chicken. The chicken had a bit too much breading and not enough chicken but the sauce was good and it was crispy. My favorite dish was the sautéed veggies. The sauce was delicious and the veggies were cooked to perfection. Light and simple. Loved that dish. Service was nice but they insisted on paying cash only which we were not prepared for so thankfully we went to a store next door and they had a POS system where we could take cash out.

Been coming to Joe's Shanghai for many years. They have since moved locations to this new fancy spot but their XLBs are still unmatched anywhere. I come here solely for the XLBs because they fill it with the most soup and the flavors are the best still. I have gotten a beef dish here as well and that was really yummy too. Do not pass up the XLBs here!!The wait here is always long but I think it's worth it if you are here and have time. Make sure you go inside to put your name down and then you can wait outside or go take a walk in the area because it'll definitely be like a 45-60 mins. wait.

Idk if it is because I have been going on weekdays or what, but I recall many years ago not even being able to get into this place because I was not willing to wait on a long line. Maybe it is a diff story now or maybe because they popularized soup buns now you can go elsewhere to enjoy. Also this is not the originallocation I remember from before, so I guess it has been some time since they moved. Anyhoo, some dude wrote an article saying to avoid this place for soup buns and a telltale sign is that there are no asians dining here. LIES! Asians a plenty when I have gone. I cannot say much about the rest of the menu because I just gorge myself on crab and pork soup buns while here. They are great. Could there be better options elsewhere? Possibly. Hell if I know. These are certainly good enough. They don't stick together, have plenty of flavorful broth...oh and cash only. But there is an atm inside if you need it.

What does cold weather demand? Soup dumplings!Look no further. Effective in what they do best - rolling out excellent food at the speed of an assembly line. Low noise levels, effective service, and CASH ONLY restaurant. We got straight to ordering our Shanghai Chives & Shrimp with Pork Wonton Soup ($14.95), Veggie Dumplings ($11.95), and Veggie Fried Rice ($14.95) - which is not egg-less by the way.Every check is slapped with a service charge, so think before you tip! Will definitely visit again because service and food is really good.PS: try their hot sauce - it is extremely delicious if you like spice!

My good friends love this place and their wonton soup. They came down from Rockland County just for the soup.Another 4 star experience, we were here last year and my reviews and photos have tons of views. Be advised, they are a CASH ONLY business so be prepared. Sunday afternoon is great for smaller parties, if you have larger groups like ours that was 6 means you will wait at least 30 to 45 minutes in most cases. Other than that everything was excellent. We had the regular wonton soup, the wonton soup with shrimp, calamari, steamed vegetable dumplings. Well made and filling! For entrees we shared the grilled chicken and broccoli, Kung pao chicken, General Tso's chicken, Chicken with broccoli, shrimp Lo Mein and vegetable fried rice. Very quick service and great prices. Great place for small children as my friends have a 5 year old boy and 8 year old girl.I would highly recommend them, and if you are driving you may want to consider parking in the parking garage a few doors down.

I was excited to try this new location! Only to end up with disappointment. It's very clean, staff is friendly, food is good(only Shanghainese food, I was not impressed with non Shanghainese food), BUT!!! To make things worse, the moment I saw waiters eating leftovers of other tables, it GROSSED me out!!! I mean do they even allow waiters to do so where customers can see?!?!That really didn't sit right with me.It was actually funny when I told waiterthat I'm taking leftovers home, you should see the disappointment on the waiter's face! Lol But seriously, I'll never go back. There are too many other good Shanghainese restaurants out there.

Joe's Shanghai is one of my favorite places to eat soup dumplings in Manhattan. Everything we ordered was amazing. The soup dumplings had a perfectly thin skin and soupy filling. The bean curd appetizer was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, while the sliced beef was tender and salty. The green beans were crunchy and full of garlic flavor, and the noodles had the perfect texture. Service was quick too. I'll definitely be back again.

We've been to the city many times in the past few years and I've always had Joe's Shanghai on my list of places to try, and well, we finally made it! We went around 4pm on a Monday and found the restaurant mostly empty, save for a few tables. Given the volume of reviews, I wasn't at all perturbed by that. It had been snowing that morning and hot dumplings sounded like the perfect meal. We ordered a few orders of the crab and pork soup dumplings, shrimp fried rice and the crispy shredded beef. The soup dumplings were good, but not the best I've ever had. The soup was good and they don't skimp you on the fillings. The fried rice was decent as well. But surprise star of the evening was the crispy shredded beef. Wow! It was so flavorful and the sauce was perfect. I'd come back for that dish alone. The place was casual and the server we had was pretty personable and attentive. Would go back, but more for the crispy beef than the soup dumplings. Remember, cash only.

The soup dumplings are must have. They are unique and we all highly recommend them. We ordered sesame chicken, kung pao chicken, spring rolls, and soup dumplings. I'd definitely say to pass on the spring rolls. The kung pao chicken was just okay. The sesame chicken was the best of the other things we ordered besides the soup dumplings. I'd definitely say to order the dumplings as your meal and skip the rest. The restaurant only takes cash so make sure you are prepared. The restaurant will also likely be on a wait with a line out the door. BEWARE - The wait does not go by the line. You must go inside and get a ticket to hold your place on the waitlist. Luckily a friend told me to go inside and get a ticket after I let her know we were waiting in line. No one will tell you that the line means nothing.
