Joe G is by far one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC if not the world. The food and service is top notch. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night or business dinner. I highly recommended this restaurant. It's one of the best I have ever eaten in.

4.5 stars. My 11 year old asked me to post this review as it was her favorite meal in NYC. We stopped in on a Saturday for lunch before a show and she was so charmed by the aesthetic, which was fairly common for local Italian restaurants thirty years ago - family all around, white tablecloths, red accents, pictures on the walls. Our waiter Antonio treated her like his own grand daughter - told her she could order off menu if she was picky and suggested a Shirley Temple to her which she found amazing. The margherita pizza was delicious. My wine was good for the price which was significantly lower than most NYC establishments. My chicken piccata was not my favorite but I think just a different style than I expected. The pasta that accompanied it was very good.Great service, great prices, good food, feels very NYC. Recommend.

Alright... Joey G's...Where do I begin?I suppose I should give a little background before I go into how I feel about my order ventures of Veal Sorrentino, and meatball Parm hero...Growing up on Long Island, and moving to the east side of Manhattan, a few points are to be noted with a cute little asterisk or something to serve as a little window into the house that is my embedded appetite and desire.* growing up I've had a long time to sample Sorrentino (chicken and/or veal) and truly dissect what I love about the very best versions of this dish. As well, I have a keen sense of my own palate be it with red sauce, meatballs, veal, Marsala, and so on and so forth down the line.* I like my meatball hero's to have pepperoni because most meatballs just don't get the job done on their own these days.* I'm extremely picky/choosy when it comes to veal, as most people just don't execute the tenderness that it deserves and truly needs to be a commendable or even acceptable dish.* my favorite sorrentino, while they had some difficulties marrying sauces and it was a bit oily at times... is forever gone thanks to the rash of business closures caused by Covid and the administration at that given time.* I cherish my west side lunch breaks as living in the east side sometimes renders certain places inaccessible... this means it's more important im satisfied and pleasantly able to battle the rest of the day in the office.Basically, this review is about my hunt for the perfect chicken Sorrentino; the meat ball parm is a subtext and I'll just say Joe G's was god, average, typical, not at all the meat cheese and sauce combo of my dreams. Moving in to the veal - my first thought was "where's the rest!?" But then I too a bite. After first bite, my next thought was "mmm a tad salty and a tad too gelatinous on the sauce"Then I devoured the entire thing and thought "maybe I'm being to critical because this is really good"Now, I told you my not so complex inner workings and rating processes to an extent and I must say, this veal was melt in your mouth tender. I was not at all expecting to be pleased like that, I always fear the worst but man was that good!I loved that they layered the veal twice with prosciutto and eggplant, and I love how thin and succulent the eggplant was because guess what!? I'm as picky with eggplant as I am veal, but man was this dish spectacular (he realizes as he types)This dish is almost exactly how I needed and wanted it to be. It needed more sauce with less salt, and a bit of a thinner, smoother consistency. But nothing gave resistance, not the prosciutto, not the eggplant, and not the veal! It chewed like a cloud lol. This lunch break was a success. I am battling on but so satisfied I could fall asleep in my chair.I would have liked more pasta, and if the generous side of red sauce they gave me didn't taste so much like Campbell's soup version of marinara. I wish the meat balls tasted like better quality meat and that they toasted the bread a little... I'd say added more sauce to my complaint list but it's not the best sauce so I'm sort of glad I can tweak this when I go home.

It's funny to imagine how many people ignore this restaurant and go to Patsy's on the same block when Joe G likely blows Patsy's out of the water. Excellent pasta dishes, decent chicken parm, much better atmosphere here even if you don't like basements.

I can't believe I have never reviewed Joe G! It is my go-to when I am meeting someone around Columbus Circle. Their proscuitto and arugula pizza is absolutely fantastic. Pasta has been a little less consistent, but always very decent.Great drinks, great service (bartenders especially) and you can sit for hours and they leave you alone so it is a great place for a relaxed friend meal. It feels old-school in a really good way.

Hubby and I decided to try this restaurant for lunch. We didn't plan on coming here, but since we're in the area, we checked it out. It's easy to miss the restaurant because it's the half basement setting restaurant, and they have outside seating on the ground level too. If you miss the indoor, go to the outdoor dining. We had Juan serving us that day. The menu wasn't bad at all. We had mussels and pizza Capricciosa to start. Then I had Capellini Alla Pescatora or seafood pasta and Hubby tried Spaghetti with Meatballs. I liked the Mussels because the sauce didn't overpower them; it was a very mild sauce. My seafood pasta was tasty. Juan was accommodating and friendly. He did a nice job. We noticed that the menu on a display flyer was not on the regular menu, but the manager said they could do it if we ordered it. The bill was reasonable. We also had the leftovers, so that was a good value.

We stumbled upon this place while we were walking at night looking for something to eat. We saw a sign and was like umm... Italian food sounds good right now. So we walked down the stairs and got seated right away. The host was so nice and courteous. We ended up ordering some chicken parm, spaghetti and meatballs and Caesar salad. The food came out in about 15 minutes and every single bite was so freaking good. We haven't had true authentic Italian food in so long and it was satisfying so good.

Ugh. Such a disappointment. Maybe dining in the restaurant is a better idea with better food but what we ordered for takeout was pretty mediocre at very best. Specifically the pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage. It looks like cut up store-bought sausage thrown in with a pack of frozen broccoli florettes thrown Onto a pile of overcooked penne Definitely not broccoli rabe and definitely not very good. Chicken picatta had a thick sauce that had no detectable lemon in it, Pizza was ok.
