Excellent takeout! Get the Lamb Birria. It's pricey but you'll understand why - it's massive and filled with some of the juiciest lamb I've ever had. We also tried the Piri Piri Fried Chicken Sandwich which was great. Order the Za'atar Ranch and Piri Piri Hot Sauce on the side and you basically have yourself a buffalo chicken sandwich. We ordered through DoorDash and food was delivered in about 30 minutes still hot and fresh.

There is no proof that I ate here. I have no pictures or any tangible evidence that shows I ate here. Believe me, I did. For those of you that have followed me around for long enough, you know how I play. I play rough, but I also play honestly and with integrity. I would not fib about someplace I have never visited. That is not my style. The restaurant, if you want to call it that, is small. A few small tables, a little bar area for solo diners to sit, no real menus, only a piece of laminated paper at the register. I do not even think the restaurant has a restroom, so order carefully if you plan on dining in. However, it appears takeout is the name of the game at Hen House, but I do not live in the East Village, so eat in it is for me.Being an ambitious diner, I ordered two sandwiches from the menu. I got a Piri Piri chicken sandwich and a Lamb Shawarma wrap. I also got a Mexican Coke to ease the digestion. The Piri Piri chicken sandwich is a dynamo. It has tons of flavor, good acid from the pickles and spreads. There is plenty of spice. The chicken is plenty flavorful with a good breading of potato starch (that may explain why the sandwich maintained its integrity the whole time). Of course, I had to thank the cashier. It was special to eat.The Lamb Shawarma sandwich is also good, but not as strong. Nice flavors, not too overwhelming. The pickles seem to take over the flavor party, which is a shame because the lamb should be the star. It is not a bad sandwich, but it needs a little work. The wrap it comes on is good for what it is. Like the chicken sandwich, everything is retained from the first bite to the last bite. Of course, the Mexican Coke really is the unsung of my meal. It anchors the whole thing so nicely. An American Coca Cola would have wrecked my stomach and ruined me. This one was a true life saver. It must be the natural pure cane sugar. For an East Village joint, this checks the boxes for affordability and convenience. The only hard part is really deciding what you want when you walk in.

I had this place on my radar for several months but after I hearing about their delicious brunch menu, I jumped at the opportunity to eat here as soon as possible. My fiancé and I came in a rainy Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm, luckily for us, they offer their brunch menu until 5pm. This is a very small restaurant in the LES which limited seating (mostly tables for 2), but luckily it was not too busy when we arrived and a lot of locals get food to-go which helps us humans traveling from far, especially in the winter. The owner was manning the cashier and he is such a lovely person, clearly very passionate about his restaurant and dishes. We decided to try some of their brunch items but also their lunch. We shared:- Bulgarian eggs: Exceptional dish, this is hands down one of the most beautifully executed egg brunch dishes I've had in a long time. Everything about this is perfect-- the jammy egg yolks, the garlicky creamy labne, the subtle sweetness of the dates, the beautiful nutty flavor and crispy texture from the pepitas, the little punch from the crispy shallots.... Just divine! It also has the most delicate and warm spices which give it a comforting and heartwarming feel reminiscent of poetry. Perfectly balanced in all its components, made me feel like these ingredients were meant to go together. Highly recommend!!! Comes with pita on the side. - Chicken shawarma platter: one of their lunch plates.... AMAZING! The chicken was so juicy it was insane. It was perfectly seasoned and had the right balance of spices. It came with a generous serving of sides including these deliciously crispy and herby potatoes, roasted eggplant, tangy cabbage salad, and balanced by the acidity of pickled turnips and pickles. This also came with a side of pita and their decadent and addictive toum or garlic sauce. Would come back just for this. Super filling but light at the same time. Exceptional quality of ingredients. - Knefe pancake: we had to try this one after seeing how beautiful it looked on social media. It did not disappoint! This is a delicious treat for anyone who wants something a little sweet with brunch that is not overwhelming. The portion size is very generous and perfect for sharing. This is inspired on the knefe dessert which has some toasted shredded phyllo dough on top of cheese. This dish has a thick buttermilk pancake with a crispy phyllo layer on top, and filled with melty, stringy cheese in the middle. The base itself is not overly sweet and is almost savory. This is perfectly balanced by the naturally sweet blueberry compote used as a topping. These are decadent, buttery, and just the perfect level of sweetness.Overall, loved my experience here! I love Lebanese cuisine and I thought this place incorporates it in both traditional and non-traditional ways, consistently delivering amazing flavors and high quality ingredients. I really want to come back to try their chicken sandwich as well as their lamb shawarma birria. Don't hesitate to come here, you won't be disappointed!

Stop by for lunch and got the Piri Piri Fried Chicken Sandwich and it was massive and delicious. The pickled cabbage and greens refreshingly balanced the sandwich. The toum sauce was garlicy contrasted with the tangy and slightly spicy piri piri sauce. The whole combination made for a scrumptious sandwich. They also have a few tables for dine-in.

Love this place! A small neighborhood spot in the East Village, Hen House is a hidden gem. We had to wait a few minutes, but there was a nice little bench and people eat pretty quickly here. We ordered Lamb Shawarma Pitas, which was positively scrumptious, but to be honest, we were here for one thing and one thing only: Knefe. My friend had brought me because she decided I needed to try it, and I can confirm that she was correct. It was so good! The service here is impeccable. They were just as excited as my friend was about me trying the Knefe pancake for the first time, which was really sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for reasonably priced, high quality Lebanese food!

I've been here 5+ times and each time it's the highlight of my week! Every single dish I've had here is amazing, my bf loves the lamb shawarma and fried chicken sandwich, both are amazing but my favorite is the pancake with shredded wheat cheese and blueberry! It's like nothing else I've ever had, it's so decadent and just unique and perfect. The servers at the counter are always super nice and helpful when deciding what to get and everything I've tried has been a hit. If you are anywhere near by def check this place out!

I'd been meaning to give this place and try and I'm glad I finally did! We shared the Piri Piri Fried Chicken Sandwich, Crunchwrap, Hummus, and Crispy Garlic Rice between 3 of us and it was the perfect amount. Everything was super flavorful and unique. The space is small, but nicely decorated and seating is limited. The staff were friendly and informative. I wanna try the pancakes next!

Tony is a damn genius. Came by for his new brunch menu and was totally blown away. The Kunefe pancake is huge and doused with blueberry compote. Loved the toasted kataifi on top. The pancake itself was thick and almost cakey with melted salty akawi cheese underneath. The baklava monkey bread and fried chicken with a sunny side up egg I liked individually but not all in one bite. The nuttiness and sweetness really came through on the monkey bread and though it was burnt at the bottom, no chart really came through taste wise. Egg was cooked to perfection and chicken was tender and juicy. Crunchwrap supreme was packed with meat and beautifully crunchy, paired with the sauces it was a burst of flavor. I'll be back to try the rest of the brunch menu as soon as I can!

Amazing place, I cannot stress how good everything tastes here. The flavors are to die for, and I really love the late night crunchwrap. Trust me and go and get it in the evening with a friend or loved one and you will not regret it.

A small place that has a couple tables that serves like fast casual with the quality of a sit down. Came here for the lamb birria that I saw in Instagram and it was even better than I imagined. It's braised lamb grilled with cheese, stuffed inside a thin Lebanese pita, grilled again and served with au jus. The lamb was perfectly juicy, flavorful and tender and the crispy pita was grilled to perfection. It is $25 so it's not a cheap eat but it's worth it. I would definitely come back to try more dishes based on how much I loved this one!
