This place is literally the most underrated sushi omakase in all of Manhattan in terms of service, quality, rarity of choice and also price point And I'm speaking from experience because I've been to Japan over 40 times. I know what's going on. Chef Naotois a son of a Michelin star sushi chef. Nuff said. Arigato!!

I have been to probably 100 different omakases in nyc, and I can say without a doubt this is my favorite. This isn't a cheap foie gras / truffle / a5 overload sushi omakase. Rather, the team is fully focused on their craft. All fish is fresh from Japan and rotates on a daily basis (I went Thursday night and then again on Saturday and a lot of the fish had rotated). A lot of things I had never had and were in season. Staff was incredible - we had four people waiting on us. Restaurant ambiance very nice and clean. Could not recommend this place more!!!!

I used to love this place. Haven't been in a few years, as we had an issue with a piece of metal in the rice that went basically ignored, but decided to give them another shot. It was nowhere near as good as it used to be. When it's good, their fish is great, i.e. tuna and king salmon are world class. However, for a place like this to not offer salmon toro (belly) and one that doesn't marinate their ikura (salmon roe), i.e, Shoyu Zuke, is beyond. The ikura was bland. The waitress was extremely nice but could barely speak English and couldn't name the pieces nor answer our questions. They also left a couple of pieces off our order. They gave us one they left off but not sure if we got the other ones as they all look like hamachi (yellowtail). Apps-wise, while the salad was good, it's crazy they don't offer a ginger/carrot dressing. The shrimp dumplings were great but the dipping sauce was awful. We wound up dipping them in the salad. Also, the soy sauce was a huge disappointment. Sushi Seki brews their own and destroys theirs. And, as any sushi lover knows, even if you use just a drop, the soy is a big part of the flavor. If it wasn't, everyone would use Kikkoman. It was also like 90 degrees in the dining room. Wayyy to hot and I had a t-shirt on. All these issues at a place whose average price is $10/piece, and we probably won't be back, as there are many other spots in the city worthy of your money. Do better, Hasaki. You were one of our faves.

Absolutely loved this restaurant for my first omakase experience! It was $90 per person, which was pretty good considering how yummy and high quality the experience was. I loved almost every piece (except for the octopus and fatty tuna sushi - for no other reason than texture problems), and left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Our chef was wonderful, kind, and speedy, as was our waiter. But we never felt rushed!The restaurant itself was so nice and calm, I loved the traditional-feeling decor and the ambience overall. We sat at the sushi bar and it was so fun! 10 out of 10, will definitely go back for regular dining and maybe even omakase!

Delicious traditional Japanese sushi and cooked food. Hidden in a small underground restaurant, the interior is traditional and you feel transported to Japan. You should make a reservation and know that the prices are on the higher side. Service is excellent.

Solid sushi nestled in East Village. Went with friends for omakase and was able to get reservations without much of a struggle. They have an outdoor patio with tables reasonable separated for social distanced dining from other patrons. Ordered the sushi and sashimi omakase. It came out all at once. Fish was fresh, and portion size solid. They also had a good selection of fresh fish, but to keep things simple with my group, we all did the same omakase. The weather was amazing and great to enjoy at the patio. For omakase aficionados, table dining is blasphemy, but its really the only way to roll when you are trying to enjoy it with a group of 4.If you are looking for a more traditional sushi omakase in the area, you wont go wrong here.

We've dined at Hasaki many times over the past 20 years, and the food is consistently high quality. The seaweed salad is most unusual with amazing dressing. It's unique to Hasaki, thus something we ALWAYS get. The shumai is also not your usual shumai either that you see at most Japanese restaurants. These are made in-house and look like mini snow balls. Divine. The sushi, sashimi, black cod, grilled salmon, oh instead of naming every dish on the menu, I'll just say that everything is truly fresh and delicious. Service is always polite. It's truly a culinary delight at Hasaki. We will keep coming back.

First time trying this place in East Village. We each got the 12 piece omakase, which also comes with miso soup. We also got the uni platter, washu beef tataki, and homemade green tea and sesame ice cream. Great meal! The uni platter is great and it's a special for that day. The homemade ice cream is amazing! Service was great!

It breaks my heart to write this review. When I first discovered the magic of Japanese cuisine, I was in high school. Hasaki is a Japanese institution of the East Village, the last samurai standing after the sad recent downfall of beloved familiar homes like Yokocho, Panya and Sunrise. The menu was once vibrant--featuring two delicious versions of nabe. Seasonal specialties prepared in regional distinctions. The sushi was, of course, impeccable. The tempura was a delight. I always loved to order a plate of it as an appetizer, the quality was so perfect. But all that is gone. Ambience is central to enjoying good quality Japanese food. That is not to say that a jovial izakaya filled with cigarette smoke and outdated music isn't as close to perfection as it can get but for Hasaki-who prides itself on an authentic, high-quality-cuisine-that element is central. Stepping down into the subterranean space of Hasaki from the soiled, noisy, college-student chattered air of the Lower East aside, you enter a space of blissful tranquility. A calm, surgically clean, perfectly arranged dining area where one expects the food to arrive on your plate like the work of art it.The ambience is still there--a removal, a respite from the grunge of NYC streets. But the menu has been sadly pared down to its bare minimum. Gone is the tempura. Gone is the nabe. Gone is the teishoku twilight dinner for a reasonable price. Gone is the seasonal special. Just overpriced sushi remains. And while the quality is still high, I should not feel like my fish had been sliced straight out of the freezer. Ice cold fish atop loose, slippery, stained sushi rice is not worth the price tag. How am I meant to pick it up with my chopsticks if it keeps falling apart?And worse, a chef accidentally dropped an object from behind the sushi bar with a loud flatter, breaking the peaceful ambience which was the only good thing about Hasaki worth its price. No one even apologized.I hope this experience is just a reflection of a reduced summer menu and that their original vibrant and varied menu will return in the Fall. That would be worth the price tag. My memories of Hasaki are too fond to shake off. I have always bragged about Hasaki and taken newcomers to Japanese cuisine there to experience all the greatness of Japanese culture and food. I want to do so again but this last experience was very disappointing. Please reawaken, Hasaki.

One of the best values, authentic Japanese Omakases in Manhattan. They just remodeled the whole place and it's as great as ever. The new sushi bar is beautiful. Make sure to reserve the sushi bar for the Omakase.
