I'm a snob when it comes to American Chinese food take out. Before a few months ago. I never tried Hardee's. My boyfriend insisted it was better than my usual spot. So I decided to give them a try. He was right. Now they are expensive. I've never paid less than $15 for any meal I've eaten. The chicken wings are great. Their Buffalo shrimp with broccoli got me in a chokehold. It's not your typical buffalo sauce. It's not really that spicy but it's savory with a hint of sweet and heat. I like it and they give you their version of bleu cheese. I do love that they give you 10 jumbo shrimp versus the 5 X-large you may typically get with a shrimp dish from Chinese takeout places. They're pretty quick and if you're a regular and creature of habit like my bf they know you by order and face. They need a reward system for all the money he's spent there. They accept card payments but they charge random fees and it's not worth it considering how expensive they already are. Bring cash.

I know a lot of folks who swear by this small local chain, so when my favorite local spot after my nail appointment was closed, I tried this location of Hardee. I placed my order over the phone and the person answering was cordial and efficient. When I arrived, I was definitely taken aback by the appearance, the wall filled with hand written specials, menus, old school tile. sparse decor/seeating. But if you realllllyyy know, the crazier the specials display & lobby, the better the food. There were all walks of life coming in and out to pick up food. My order was ready fairly quickly, so I paid and left. The flavors were decent and it is a bit more costly than my regular place. Id return in a pinch, but it will likely be to try one of the infamous wall specials, as I am intrigued and invested.

Hardee's does not miss when it comes to flavor and crunch of their white meat general tso's chicken. The chicken was a tad over cooked which led to it being a stringy, but not a biggie. There are two Chinese take out places much closer to my apartment but inevitably I find myself at Hardee's for what I know will be a treat. The ratio of chicken to breading is more than acceptable. The service is great and super efficient.

Hardee's food is honestly, goooood. Hardee's cooks seem to understand that MSG isn't an actual seasoning and that all Chinese food does not have to taste like it's served from an assembly line. My current fave is the crispy fried shrimp with sauteed broccoli, topped with jalapeños. Hardee's food is never greasy and again, I detect the flavors of real herbs and spices or at least a little seasoning salt.
