Perhaps one of the most endearing dishes in Chinese cuisine is wonton soup. It's well known and loved by many, and there have been many variations depending on where in Asia one goes. Located on Mulberry Street in NYC's Chinatown, HK Wonton Garden is one of those places to eat authentic Cantonese food where I came for lunch today. With a very plain exterior front, I was greeted by the staff upon entering at an old-school vibe with different monetary currencies taped to the walls. As a repeat patron, I easily got a table by the kitchen. Some of the staff still wore the Hawaiian shirts and served up some tasty offerings. The menu is extensive for wonton and noodles, both with soup or dry, among other dishes. I decided on the wonton with noodle soup and sui mai. These were average pieces of pork and shrimp encased in this lovely wrap. For many years, this has been my favorite comfort food: a well-made bowl of hearty, authentic Hong Kong-style wonton noodles with the right taste and textural profile and using the correct condiments to create the desirable final end results. In Cantonese, 'wonton' roughly translates to 'clouds' as the wontons look like clouds floating in the soup and use thin wrap. Most dumplings are usually served with a thicker wrap. The meal began with a hot cup of tea. The food came out quick and hot. The flavor was unique and consistent, and the prices were fair as compared to other places. The portions were just right, and the staff efficient. I continue to recommend this place.

4.5 starsWonton and beef tendon noodle soup hit the mark on all fronts. Chewy noodles, full tasty wonton, soft beef tendon, and a good soup.Only thing is I wish there were a more noodles; unbalanced and ran out too fast. I tried to get an extra order of just noodles (no soup) and they tried to charge me like 5 or 7 bucks (1/2 to 3/4 the price of the whole dish!), but after expressing some surprise I was able to get it added as "extra noodles" for like 3 bucks. So pro tip, just order extra noodles from the start if that's your thing. (Not sure why all the fuss anyways)

Wonton soup that doesn't skimp on meat portions for around 10 bucks in this day and age?? What's to complain about!?When it's cold in NYC and you need a deep broth to revive you, HK wonton garden will not disappoint. Broth was rich, wontons were meaty, beef and tendons were tender, it hit the spot for both me and the hubbyNOTE: The place is small but turnover is quick

Stopped by here for lunch while exploring Chinatown and our experience was definitely mixed!Service was fast and friendly. Prices are incredible - $55 for lunch for three in NYC.Food was hit or miss! Was looking forward to some Dim Sum but they were too large and the wraps were too thick. Same to be said for the spring roles - arrived piping hot but wrap was thick and doughy in middle!Ma Po tofu was however excellent. My daughter liked her sweet and sour chicken and my husband's noodles were just okay ! Good enough and a bargain price! Todu was the standout !!

Our go-to spot for Chinese comfort food: wonton noodle soup, roast duck noodle soup, beef fried rice, pan fried noodles, dimsum, and all the other variations of noodles! We've been coming here for over 40 years even when they moved to the Mulberry St location. The cooks and servers are still here wearing their Hawaiian shirts.Fast efficient and no frills setting.

Friendly staff. Nice folks. Busy place.BUT, there was literally a cockroach that crawled across the wall (where the dollar bills are taped) and was almost going into my friends' hair! I seriously grabbed my napkin in a flash, and grabbed it with napkin to kill it...midway through our meal.I could have shown the staff but I didn't mention it and we picked up the $90 bill (gratuity included). While the place was busy, this was not my cup of tea (or favorite type of Chinese)!I won't be back although they were really nice. Sorry

Great food at reasonable prices. Peking duck was amazingly tender and juicy. Honey walnut prawns were also a favorite. Wonton soup was good (individual portion sized) and the crowd favorite was the crispy chow mein with pork. Service was good - simple. Just make sure you confirm your orders. Small restaurant that can fit about 30 people inside.

We were rushing in right before closing time. Food was prepared very quickly without compromising the taste. The seafood and meat topping were quite generous. Everyone in my group was saying the beef tendon was really really good. I wasn't a fan of beef tendon so can't say much about it. Service was good, quick and friendly. We appreciate they still taking our orders despite it's very near to their closing time. As for ambiance, well it's a pretty small establishment and no vacant tables, turnover of the tables are super quick so don't expect a squeaky clean everything but it's at an acceptable level of clean

Tiny restaurant in Chinatown off mulberry street. No frill, old decor w money on the walls. What you would expect from china town.I was craving wonton soup but the pork wonton soup that I usually get at a Chinese restaurant. I'm not a fan of the dumpling shrimp and pork combo that look more like what's pictured, so I didn't love the soup. The thin noodles also were a little tough. The broth was good but I added chili oil and vinegar. Service is your typical China town style. If you know then you know lol
