Well well. We had dinner this evening for the first time at Gus. It was an incredible experience. First, a wonderful young man named Andy served us. He was very personable and attentive. It was very cold today in NY so Andy suggested a hot apple cider tardy with a splash of cognac. It was great! Now for the food...... for starters we had the harsh browns and deviled eggs. Both were amazing and beautifully presented. From there it was the Gus burger for him and the pork chop for me. We topped it off with the sugar Carmel pie! The entire meal was absolutely delicious! The service and hospitality was A++. We will be back soon. Looking at the Sunday lunch in the near future.

I had a delicious birthday dinner here in early November. Our group of four opted for the family meal, each picking one appetizer and one entree, then collectively selecting two sides and two desserts. I'm a sucker for family-style meals, and this was a great way to try lots of dishes.Appetizers:Focaccia with whipped ricotta and fig mostarda - Good but not particularly memorable.Fried sand dune oysters with comeback sauce and pickled peppers - Tasty but a little small.Hash browns with creme fraiche, trout roe, and everything spice - I'm not normally a hash brown fan, but the crust was very light and crispy while the potato filling inside was surprisingly fluffy. This was a treat for the eyes and taste buds.Anchovy special - My favorite of the four. The anchovies were sharp, briny (enhanced by the olives), and perfectly seasoned.Entrees:Pork porterhouse with green peppercorn sauce - The best dish of the night, as I suspected it would be. So incredibly tender, juicy, and delicious. I wish we'd gotten two orders of this instead, but that probably would've made the meal too heavy. Sweet tea brined half chicken with beer-'Nduja braised cabbage and pickled mustard seeds - I liked the flavors a lot, though our friend found it a little bitter, perhaps from the braised cabbage.Tagliatelle with pork bolognese and parmesan - Pretty much what you'd expect, in a good way.Spaghetti with guanciale, spinach, black pepper, and pecorino - A bit oily, and it needed a sauce. Honestly, I wasn't that interested in trying the pastas, but in hindsight I'm glad we had them as a starch for our meats.Sides:Carrots with green goddess dressing and gremolata - Well roasted with a nice, bright flavor.Green tomato cobbler with basil pesto - Comparatively a more decadent side, but the tomatoes really helped to cut through the heavier biscuit crust.Dessert:Basque cheesecake with quince - Nice and fluffy, boosted by the cool, refreshing pureed quince.Chocolate mousse with whiskey cherries - My friends enjoyed this, but it wasn't my thing. I'm generally not a big chocolate fan, and this one tasted especially strong and rich in chocolate flavor... which might be great for some people.Beverages:Peanut lemonade - I love an unusual-sounding drink, so I had to try this. It tastes exactly like it sounds, maybe even a little more peanut-leaning than lemon. My friends hated it, but although I was startled at first, it grew on me.Ginger pear bubbly shrub - This one split the table. Some thought it was too vinegary, but I found it refreshing, especially since it was sweeter than my peanut lemonade. They seem to change their menu often, since most of the dishes I'd wanted to try were no longer there. Not a problem since I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, and I'd love to return when they change things up again! (But please leave the pork porterhouse there forever.)

the thing this place excels at is terrible ambience. i would equate the decor to that of a "its wine o clock" sign my mother probably would've bought from home goods. the layout, and details of the restaurant are truly reminiscent of a my friends suburban house. a cut and paste built house that lacks energy, emotion and vibe. the actual food was nothing exceptional. the two things i actually quite enjoyed were the hashbrowns and the spritz drink. even with hash browns tho, it lacked any actual culinary integrity. this trout dipping sauce was quite literally whipped cream cheese and topped dill and some seasonings. but sure lets call it a smoked trout roe! i feel like all the food had the layer of supposed to be excellence, but seeing through the rouse is easy. the oysters were truly so funny to me because the oysters were deep fried, with a smear of spicy mayo and a singular .5mm slice of the tiniest pepper in the world. the shells themselves were barely that... i wouldnt be surprised is they were used again and again as dish-ware. i cant even say they were real. i would literally never eat that dish again even if my life depended on it. the pasta (tagliatelle) was maybe the only thing bare-able to eat. despite it being basically a bowl of noodles, oil, beef. its super simplistic aura at least me not starve. but god it was just so boring.the burger, they are supposed to be known for, was literally so potent in a sausage flavor that it made me wonder if it was meant to be a burger. it was paired with a white sharp cheddar cheese that (you think would tone down this meat) literally just made it stronger. it was personally just not for me, but i see a jacked beefy man loving this. the server was incredibly good at their job, but almost to good it made me want not to like ask anything. didn't leave much for interpretation and ultimately was so sweet i never wanted to complain. i think their name was Annie ? but they were amazing 10/10but yeas overall this place feels fake and phony.

The place has an upscale casual feel. The service is excellent, fast and attentive. The dishes are creative and delicious. The hash browns were perfectly cooked and the topping is outstanding. The croquettes didn't have a lot of fish taste, the tomato sauce was great. The burger was outstanding, juicy, cheesy, the crust was a bit salty. The cheesecake was fluffy, creamy. Would definitely recommend!

We visited Gus's a few weeks ago after reading about their burger on a "best of" list. What we found was a delightfully comfortable restaurant with attentive service and several delicious plates. We really enjoyed the Hashbrown with Roe,The Burger (so unique and tasty!), the glazed carrots and the maple pecan pie (there may be one last dish I'm forgetting at the is moment but it was allSooooo Gooood). Great cocktails too. This was a meal we were talking about the next day. We look forward to returning again.

Popped in for dinner around New Year's and everything was delicious. We had oysters, a steak, and the burger - but I will definitely be back to try some pasta. For drinks I tried the spiked cider and an aged egg nog special and both were fantastic. Great service and I loved the decor. The space felt very homey and inviting. Lighting is moody in the evening - definitely a cozy date spot.

I ate at Gus's this past Sunday evening. The ambience was so nice and cozy. The Brussel sprouts were so tasty. My steak was good ,I think it was grass fed. However my husband said his hamburger was cold and not edible. He did not know what kind of mixture it was. The biggest issue we had was Gus's does not serve coffee or tea. We were celebrating some one's birthday and brought a huge birthday cake with us. Had we known that coffee was not available, we probably would have chosen a different restaurant. All in all a nice evening but don't think I will be returning for dinner.

As advertised definitely one of the bestBurgers in NYC .But .... Before , you got to get their focaccia, it's that good and with that fantastic burrata a perfect start .Then that excellent burger , done perfectly and I loved the tops combination, though avoid the fries in my humble opinion taking the greatness of the burger .Very nice , cosy neighborhoody space with great service . If around that Brooklyn hood, it's a must !

This is an excellent neighborhood restaurant to have nearby if you love delicious twists on the classics, and have plenty of dollars. It's not a place I could eat at regularly, but it certainly is a place I'd like to eat at regularly.I met a couple friends for dinner. We were supposed to be four, but one guy dropped out with COVID, and the hostess and I agreed it was his loss, because Gus's just offers quality across the board.Cocktails:They have plenty of well-executed classics (like the Penicillin), or slight twists on the classics (i.e. the Black Manhattan). I went for the Campfire Old Fashioned, because it has rye, bourbon, and scotch, and sometimes you just need all the booze. We also found a nice bottle of wine because I heard mixing wine and liquor is a good move.Snacks and Appetizers:It may be a chop house, but they do well with the vegetables. We shared a few of the smaller plates, including the shrimp cocktail (a fine version), the cauliflower (quite good), the carrots (stunning, really, with chili and chevre), the leeks a la wedge (my favorite of them all). Those small plates fall just under $20 however, and they add up.Steaks & Chops:I couldn't dissuade my fancy friends from springing for the steak special of the evening, and in their defense, it was very good. That said, the Pork Porterhouse was one of the most delicious things I've eaten in quite some time, and it is far more affordable...and still a giant hunk of meat just laid on a plate. The perfect execution of something so simple is appealing, and that pork is what I'm going for when I come back. Overall, I want Gus's to be about 15% more affordable so I can come back on the regular, but I very much understand the cost of doing business in this neighborhood, so I understand why it is not (and why homes are not as well). I plan to return when I can.

We didn't make a reservation, and waited 30 minutes and they want us to sit at the bar? So why didn't they offer us any of the four empty bar seats when we first walked in? We did get a table so all good.Vibe and service were the best thing. Cute neighborhood restaurant with a young hip crowd and everyone seem enjoying their time here.Food was fine, New York strip was excellent but I wish I order the larger size. I was hungry afterwards. Pork porterhouse skip this.I would come back for drinks and vibes only.
