Perfect Taiwanese comfort meal on a cold and windy NYC day. Small but cozy 5 seater seating area.I ordered the chicken and Lu rou fan combo. It came with a black tea, popcorn chicken and a little side dish. Everything was seasoned really well. Will definitely come back!

I'd recently been to 929, which was phenomenal! But the food at Gulp was disappointing.I placed an online order through Yelp and my food was ready in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, basically every element of the popcorn chicken bento was lacking:- popcorn chicken: the chicken itself was dry for dark meat, and the coating of breading wasn't thick enough to create a satisfying crunch- napa cabbage: undercooked and not seasoned at all. Extremely bland and close to raw.- noodle side dish: goopy and really saucy, and way too salty. The complete opposite of the Napa cabbage. The only passable component of the bento was the seasoned egg.

My college friend and I went to Gulp for lunch this past Friday because we wanted Taiwanese food. Gulp had good reviews and seemed promising. Upon arrival, all five bar seats were taken, so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for two seats to free up. The interior is incredibly small and tight, and most orders were either take-out or delivery. We placed our order and received our food pretty quickly.GULP COMBO: BRAISED BEEF NOODLES - 26The combo is dine-in only, and it was a great way to sample a bit of everything. It came with the main entree, popcorn chicken, some sides (we got a small cup of chicken broth and saucy rice noodles with napa & tea egg), and iced four season green tea. The chicken broth was rich and flavorful, with a nice gelatinous texture that kicked off the meal perfectly. The rice noodles were pretty standard -- a soy-saucy taste and the texture on the flimsier side. However, it was way too salty, so I didn't fish them. The tea egg and napa were a nice touch. The popcorn chicken, though, was crispy and seasoned perfectly. Sadly, the braised beef noodles didn't live up to expectations. The broth was too oilyand lacked the depth I was hoping for, and the beef cuts were too thick. One piece was way so touch it got stuck in between my teeth. On a positive note, the iced four season green tea was lightly sweet and a delightful surprise that reminded me of grass jelly tea.Overall, there were a couple items here that were very good and some items that were just meh or OK. Another friend mentioned that she likes their Braised Pork Rice, so if I ever come back, I'll try that combo. Either way, I'm glad I got to try a variety of Taiwanese classics.

Saw this place on TikTok and knew I had to try! We came the day after a snow storm and the restaurant was full (there is only bar seating and no bathroom). We waited about 20 minutes before being able to sit as a party of 2. But since it is bad seating you can watch the chefs at work. I got the lu rou fan set and bf got the beef noodle soup set. I love the idea of the set. It was the perfect amount of food which consisted of an iced sweetened tea, chicken soup, a small dish of noodles and veggies, popcorn chicken which was amazingly juicy and crispy and your main. My Lu rou fan was amazingly satisfying, at first I had wished my pork wasn't as finely diced but it did make sure the rice was nicely coated with the pork. It was just fatty enough to my liking. Would get again. Wish there were more radishes but the table also has a shared sauce rack with pickled vegetables which I helped myself to multiple times. The beef noodle soup was a little oily for my liking but the spice was really great. A very strong 5 spice taste and spell and they even offer a free serving of noodles. Bf also mentioned how they were not stingy with the meat so that's good.

Got takeout from here for the first time even though I've passed by a bunch of times. They have a bunch of menu item choices and their popcorn chicken is a popular menu item and it's definitely popular for a reason. They only have about 4 dine in seats so if you're looking to dine in it might be up to an hour wait. The space is definitely small and the food can take a bit to prepare, especially during meal rushes so something to keep in mind.

Gulp offers an authentic taste of Taiwan in a cozy and inviting environment! As soon as you sit down, you're greeted with a warm, complimentary cup of chicken broth! The restaurant itself is small yet cozy, with 4-5 counter-seats that overlook the kitchen. If your planning on dining in, I would highly recommend the Beef Noodle Soup or Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Rice) Combos! The beef noodle soup is one of my favorites in the city! The soup itself is rich and flavorful, and comes with a generous portion of beef. It also comes with a complimentary second serving of noodles, making it extremely filling. If you're looking to spice it up, make sure you ask for the chili sauce and pickled vegetables!

The best beef noodle soup I've ever had. This place has only five seats but most of their business is delivery. I'd recommend just getting it take out because there is no system for the waitlist, you just have to stand there.
