I did not like my meal at Gjelina. To be fair, the place is handsome, the service is attentive, and there were a few dishes we liked. The steak was a standout. But overall, the flavors fell flat or were unpleasant in some cases. And the pizzas we had were a disgrace. You do not have to walk 20 feet to find a far better place to eat in this neighborhood.

I am a big fan of Gjelina in Venice California. Though the quality of their food has taken a nose dive since founding partner and chef Travis Lett left. I am not a fan of the Gjelina in NYC. Gjelina opened in NYC last year on Bond Street only to close quickly due to a kitchen fire. Recently it popped up, for a few weeks only, in the Standard East Village hotel. For some reason the hotel has a large empty restaurant space and it made sense to bring in Gjelina if only for a month or so until they reopened on Bond street in November. It is a perfect marriage. Both are mismanaged. My wife and I passed by and decided to give it a try. The place was not terribly busy. We approached the hostess who was standing at the outside hostess stand wearing a N95 face covering. Ok!?!?! Between her mouth being covered, the loud music, and my 74 year old ears I could not make out a word she said. My wife interpreted for me. We had the choice of sitting at the bar or a table outside. Outside dining on the foul filthy vagrant rat garbage infested loud streets of NYC is not my thing. Plus they are repaving the streets of the Bowery so add on the smell of hot black top. We chose the bar. To start my wife ordered a margarita. Ooops. Sorry. They were out of Tequila. She opted for a glass of Rose. The server informed us that this was their last bottle and we should buy the bottle to secure a second glass. We politely declined. The issue of the supply chain is something I ran into previously at the Standard East Village. A month ago I stopped in for a beer. I was nonchalantly handed a menu. I ordered a Bitburger on tap. The server came back and said they were out of it. Ok. Two weeks ago I returned. Ordered the Bitburger. The server came back and said they were out of it. Ok. Last week I returned. Same story. Perhaps someone should take it off the printed menu? Anyway back to Gjelina. We ordered Mussels and Duck Confit. My wife asked for a second glass of Rose but they were out of it. Naturally. Our bad. She informed us that we should have secured that second glass by buying the bottle. The mussels were big and plump but there was hardly any juice. The size of the toasted sourdough bread was very small. Unfortunately a fitting size for the lack of juice to slurp. The Duck Confit was one small thigh and leg over a tablespoon of braised red cabbage. The outside of the Duck was like cardboard while the inside was like mashed potatoes. Both entrees were tasteless. Very disappointing. And it was quite expensive. We ate, paid, and left. Upon passing the hostess on the way out we said thank you. She mumbled something under her face covering. I assume she thanked us for stopping by.

Beautiful space and friendly service. The food is fantastic. Loved the selection of veggies. The celeriac was incredible, and the cabbage was decent. The pizza with burrata is also solid. Appreciated the fresh dried oregano they served with it. The chocolate tart desert was fine. It's such an expansive menu that I'm quite excited to go back.

I'd rate the food 4 stars. Service was 2 stars. We were one hour into our reservation and wanted to order more food (portions are on the smaller side), and our waitress told us that she spoke to the host and they needed our table back so we couldn't order. We had our table for 90 minutes, but that was fine. Then they asked if we wanted dessert, and when we wanted to order, the host once again said she needed to check with the host. When we were finally allowed to order, we had to repeat it back to her maybe 4 separate times. Very bizarre experience.

If you're in the mood for organic well cooked and balanced meals this is the place. Food would barely be 4 stars. However considering the pricing and service here, it is the classic case of all hype and little substance.First off, the decor is beautiful. It has a neo-rustic impression that builds off of the ironworks strength of the NoHo building that houses it. There's plenty of glass and the creamy color palette used is warm and inviting. However, while the staff are generally friendly, they are pretty slow and inattentive to the customers they served. It's perfectly understandable given that it is brunch. Unfortunately we didn't order a lot and twice the waiter almost gave us the wrong dishes. Either they are disorganized from the management perspective or the waiter is being careless. Additionally most of the staff are seen talking among themselves rather than attending to new customers. That needs attention. When the food came out it was generally pretty tasty. It wasn't overly salty or morbidly bland. Nonetheless, the bread was overly burnt and courtesy toast to accompany the saucy shakshuka was not given. Moreover, the portions given were quite small. I am plenty aware of the economics of paying rent, freight, workers and bills, but the portions, price and product simply do not add up as a good value. In my humble recommendation, it's ok to try it once. Your caveat emptor has been put out there. But figure out how to cook it for yourself. It is empowering, enjoyable and saves money during times like these.

The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous on the interior. The wait staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. My friends and I shared the mushroom pizza, the duck hash, and the roasted carrots. Everything was delicious, and the prices were amazing considering the quality of the food and the portion sizes. I highly recommend!I was so upset to hear about the recent fire, and I'm wishing for a speedy recovery so that I have the chance to return soon!

Wonderful food and service. Ambiance is lively without being overwhelmingly loud. Dishes are best shared between 3-4 people.

Absolutely wonderful service and very fresh tasty foods. The duck confit and lamb stew were off the charts and the guanciale pizza rocked. No restaurant is perfect all the time but Gjelina delivers every time I go.

I'm truly such a huge fan of the food and I have been a repeat customer here. However, the service was really strange this time. Each table should have 90 mins but within an hour of our meal, we were being rushed to leave by our server. A different server came to offer us dessert and as soon as we placed the order, our original server came back and told us that she had to check with the hostess. When we finally got our dessert and paid the bill, we had only had been there for 1 hr 15 min. Strange and disappointing experience to be rushed so aggressively
