Was here for dinner yesterday, part of a party of five. The decor is lovely, the service, exemplary. The quality of the food is very good, especially for steak. And the Baked Alaska was one of the best desserts I've ever had. However, if I was going to go for a big steakhouse dinner again, I'd go elsewhere in the future, due to some detractions with the overall experience. First, there was a spirit of meanness at G&T's. Portions were small; in some cases, laughably so. An overpriced order of french fries should be enough for more than one person. They even charge for bread for the table. No one should go wanting when a bill for five is over $800.Additionally, the wine list is not the best, and the need to try and tweak classic dishes (like, say, Clams Casino remade with a Korean twist which just didn't work all that well). All in all, a nice outing, but there are better alternatives for a classic NYC steakhouse experience.

Returned to G&T two years after my first visit and I must say that I was incredibly disappointed with the food.I returned for New Years eve dinner expecting greatness but they fell short. They had a pre-fix menu, 4 courses for $175 p/p. I tasted my friend's meals in addition to mine. The grits for the shrimp and grits appetizer was salty and shrimp was undercooked, my entre of tile fish could have been an appetizer because the dish was so small, I almost needed a magnifying glass to spot it on my plate. The garnish was larger than the fish. I wondered if they were short on fish and decided to cut portions but charge the same price (who knows). Guys, when I tell you the fish was small, believe me, it's the smallest I've ever been served. I've had appetizers at fine dining restaurants that were larger. With that said, it was cooked to perfection! The matzo ball soup, was mediocre, brother was decent flavor but too much dill and the ball was cold, tough and lacked flavor. For dessert, I had the banana rum cake , the presentation was cute but taste was terrible. The cake was cold and tasted like it was purchased at the discounted section of a wholesale supermarket. When I tell you my overall experience as it relates to the food was underwhelming, believe me, it was! I was most disappointed with myself for not following my instinct to stay home and have a nice home cooked meal instead. Was so disappointed in the food quality that I didn't have the motivation to take photos, just one video of dessert. The host and server did their best I'm sure. Won't take credit away from them, but whoever was managing / tasting/ observing the food before it left the kitchen should be put on a PIP (performance improvement plan). Summary: don't rush to go here. I'm sure you could make better at home and have a better dining experience.

A striking experience. The dining room itself is lovely, painstakingly restored to former glory. My dining companion and I felt like 19th century robber barons and dined accordingly, eating a brunch fit for kings. Dutch baby and mushroom rarebit toast were delicious but the biscuit and gravy were otherworldly, with flavors I've never encountered in the dish before. We kept rolling with a baked Alaska dessert that, despite not being flambéed, was wonderful. Service was fantastic. When I indicated to the waiter that I'd been following the place for years and was thrilled to finally be here, he went out of his way to tell me about some of the restoration work, and even let me look through menus from the 1930s and 1950s. All this was $100 for two people plus tip. Absolutely worth it. Will return next chance I get.

Oh man. This was a tough review to write because everything was SO delicious, but 4 of us ended getting stomach problems throughout the following day most likely from this meal due to it being the common denominator.Regardless, the space is very romantic with dim lighting, and the waiters are extremely amiable and helpful. We ordered the caesar salad which was covered in cheese and crispy as well as the clams which had tasty toppings. The steak also was overall a crowd pleaser.Don't forget to order the drinks! The Sidecar No. 2 was great but the Tom Collins was alright.

A foodie such as myself has never been to such a unique restaurant. The drink menu immediately gets your attention. I like the categories and organization of it. If you're a martini kinda person, you'll be very pleased with the variety. Presentation of the drinks was awesome too. The Parker Rolls are no joke... they are up to the hype! The baked clams, oysters, shrimp cocktail were sooooo good! The She Crab soup was better than I anticipated. Ribeye steak was yummy but didn't come with any sides. I'd say the chicken was average. It was soft and cooked well but nothing to write home about. The dessert was worth stuffing myself to the brim. Really delicious! All in all, would come again and definitely recommend. The decor and ambiance are so unique. So pleasant!Service deserves a shoutout too!! Everyone was so kind and professional. Really made our experience that much better :)

This historic restaurant in downtown Brooklyn did not disappoint! We went during happy hour and had martinis with oysters to start. And then ordered the NY strip and Heritage pork chop with brusssels sprouts and potatoes. All delicious! Staff was attentive and helpful. The retro decor is just the icing on the cake with a cherry on top. We will definitely return. Love this place!

We were there for an event in the private room. The service was great and the food was good. We were served family style, which was a great way to do the party. One of the servers spilt a manhattan on my raincoat, but they took the coat and washed it and when I received it back, it was fine. The manager was very concerned and spoke to me about it as well. Great service given the circumstance.

Gage and Tollner was absolutely amazing. I've been there for dinner and brunch and both times have been amazing. The food is definitely A1. The bread is a must have. For brunch we got the Dutch baby, biscuits and gravy, brunch burger. All were really good. The burger was a little salty but otherwise great. For dinner, we got steak and onion rings, pot pie and dessert. We were super full by the end. Lots of food. Great steak. Wonderful experience. Service was great and the ambiance was nice as well.

I spent too much time researching NY steakhouses for my upcoming business trip. I opted to go with G&T based on history, location, and sporadic strong reviews. I made a reservation on line ~3 weeks in advance which for some reason did not register. I received a warm greeting and was given a table for one in spite of the reservation mix-up. The waitstaff was exceptional and attentive - i cannot say enough about them. My NY Strip was disappointing. Cooked as requested, but not remotely worth $71. The diner next to me was equally disappointed with her meal (chicken pot pie). Yes, I had high expectations, but could have found a better meal for half the price.Ambiance was nice.. Atmosphere at 5:00 was loud. I spent most of my time looking forward to finishing my meal and leaving. Not my cup of tea.

I went there with wife and son and daughter in law. Though we did not have reservations it was a weekday and it was early in the evening they were able to sit us! The service and the food was avg! I heard a lot about the place but it was nothing special ! Also they stuck a big chunk of butter on top of the steak! NO WAY! Told them take it back and get me something else. Why wouldthey do that I wouldnever know. I have eaten many steakhouses around NY and this one is on the lower end. Not close to Delmonicos, Galaghers or Keens. Luger was the class but that has slipped to the middle.
