Located a bit out of the way in East New York, I came here for a friend's birthday dinner. It was a fun place to celebrate, as the interior was colorful, popping with a DJ, and there was a lively atmosphere. Decided to order the Whole Red Snapper Escovitch, which was fried, topped with onion, carrots, and peppers in a slightly spicy vinegar sauce. This was served with a side of rice and peas, as well as steamed veggies. The Red Snapper was beautifully plated and I loved the well seasoned, delightfully crispy and tender meat of the fish. It was made in a certain way that it wasn't difficult to eat around the bones. The veggies on top were nice and crunchy, full of savory flavor. Steamed veggies included broccoli, green beans, and carrots. This was fresh and tasty. Rice and beans were perfectly cooked with yummy coconut flavor.I got to try the Whole Red Snapper in Brown Stew and Steamed. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the Stewed version, as the sauce was boldly flavorful with the fish being succulent and juicy. I also tasted the Plantains and Roti with Curry Chicken. Plantains were deliciously crisp, soft, and lightly sweet. Roti was also good filled with plenty of chicken. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were reasonable. As the place is far from me, I don't see myself returning.

BoooooooooShame on THIS yankee for going to do laundry late&hungry on a Sunday. Not many places nearby serving real food at this time. I took a hopeful walk up Elton for a small dinner. These oxtails taste like they came from my yankee kitchen. That is to say that they tasted yummy, but not like they came from anybody's Jamaican restaurant. (I gotta explain that growing up in 90s, when the menu at the best Jamaican spots were on Chalkboards, even though you'd be better off just ASKING what they have) Really cool ambiance. Friendly service. Raised the score to 3 stars. Boom

I've been coming here for the $5 meal for a while, I do laundry close by and it's a nice hot little snack while I wait for clothes to be done. It's a small shell container of food and a good way to test out the fare. Food is good and fresh. No other similar cuisine close by to this either so they're pretty popular. They even have a food truck . We've passed by at night and this placevis alive and jumping. Karaoke and other specialty nights every night. This area gets pretty quiet at night after the nearby Gateway mall stores close. Great spots for drinks and dinner with entertainment. Jamaican food - I tried the curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtails and wings. Good vibes, spacious and always clean.

The food was by far the best thing about this experience. Everything was on point. Loved my tender oxtails that had very little fat and lots of tender big pieces of meat in really good gravy. The rice and peas were deliciously seasoned and best of all, neither was too salty or too peppery. The chicken wings and the BBQ ribs were meaty and a good size. I was told the curry goat was also very good. Someone had the plaintain bites and loved them. I could not try them because they were topped with fish and I'm allergic. The drinks were strong and well worth the price. The Ambiance was welcoming and had nice music and an epic bar area. Seats were kinda hard but I guess that comes with the experience. Now, they lost a star for a couple reasons but mainly slow service and they were out of many things. Now the 'out of many things' is very typical Caribbean and you can't be in a Jamaican restaurant without something being out; but here, for example at 2 in the afternoon they were out of ice cream, drink mixes, carrot cake was down to one slice, and several others. BUT they really lost one star because it seemed as if all but one of the front staff called out or were coming in late. One poor person (Brandon) had to welcome people, seat us, take our order, bring out the food, serve as bartender, then as the busperson. He did everything except cook the food! Needless to say it was slow slow slow and we had to ask many times for things like water, hot sauce etc. one table, the woman had to go to the back to pick up her own food and take it to her table! Yes, I would go back because the food was great but also would know to expect to be there a moment!

This is a quick go to spot that has pretty good food. They used to have a good happy hour but it seems as though they switched managers a few times and that all went out the window. The prices went up and the happy hour drink prices aren't worth it. They give you small glasses and make the drinks lighter than the regular drinks and they charge $9. When you do the math, two of the happy hour drinks (with half the amount of alcohol in it) cost you more than 1 full drink that's normally around $17. The happy hour food menu is a lot smaller, and they cost more now.

This was my choice of the 1st place to eat upon returning home to NYC. It's in my mother's neighborhood, so I wanted to see what has become of Brooklyn, NY. All she told me was that there was a carribbean fusion spot blocks away. So instantly, I said, "Let's roll. Upon walking up to the restaurant, a person greeted us from outside and sat us. Inside was a straight vibe from jump. The energy was high, the music was playing, and you could smell the food cooking in the back. There is a nice size bar and dj in the front of the place. There is plenty of seating inside for any size group. I had the jerk chicken w/ rice & peas and collard greens. The food came out in a reasonable time. My mother had the chicken & Waffles. That was good I tried it the Waffles were thin and nice. There was like a slight spicy brine for the chicken. My brother had the whole Snapper that was also really good he said he really enjoyed it. I will return here w/ my sister because she would love the vibes here w/ her friends. Maybe we will return for brunch one day. This place reminds me of a place called 4Play w/ the nice music and energy. The server was very knowledgeable and fast! If you want good food and great vibes while in the gateway area of Brooklyn you must stop in. You won't be disappointed!!!

Came here to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday. I must say, either they changed chefs, really paid attention to reviews, or we just got a good day but everything was very good. Service, food, ambiance. The dj even came over to ask if the music was too loud but we are Caribbean so it was perfect for us. The drinks were great, a bit strong but that's what we pay for right? One fishbowl is ENOUGH lol. We had some shots for the birthday boy but even that was more than a typical shot. Food was great too. Again, not sure if they changed the chef or he was in a good mood that day but he showed up with all the flavor. The escovitch snapper was soo good, the vegetables served with it were a bit spicy but that's expected (if you've eaten it before you know). I asked for oxtail gravy and that helped tone the spice down, but I also add that to every Caribbean dish when I go out. Everyone basically had oxtail and that was great as well. The fusion pasta.. was different. Def not "Rasta pasta" they cook theirs with turmeric or curry where it gets it's yellowish color from. I personally wasn't a huge fan of it but others liked it. The salon cakes and fried chicken were good too. The soup of the day was chicken and that was fairly good too. Not much provision in it but had good flavor. We all enjoyed our food and time spent here. I recommend, esp on a Sunday for brunch. Although they don't have a specific "brunch" menu. Call and make reservations if it's a bigger crowd.

Let's do some math! DJ + Dinner + Drinks = TGIF at Fusion East. From the outside looking in, I thought that I was in for a treat. Sadly, you should never judge a book by its cover. The service at Fusion East had us all confused. I was initially introduced Fusion East through a surprise party that they catered more than a year ago. I thought the food was amazing then and looked forward to the on-site dining experience. As we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, we enjoyed light bites and refreshing sips of their rum punch. Our Fusion Sampler included jerk wings, coconut shrimp, and codfish fritters. Everything packed a punch, with the exception of the shrimp. NOTE: I do not eat shellfish. The DJ was on point, but the volume made it challenging to have a conversation.Although our evening at the Caribbean and Soul Food restaurant started off nicely, it quickly went downhill. Our large party proved to be more than the staff could handle. The staff tried but just seemed ill-prepared for our group despite the ample notice. Our repeated requests for water were met with pitchers but never enough glassware. The few that eventually made it to our table were small enough for just a shot. Fusion cuisine is no easy feat for ambitious restaurants that often fall short and totally miss the mark. Sadly, Fusion East is another one to add to that list. When it came to the menu, I opted for the safer choice by ordering the $20 boneless curry chicken with white rice and steamed vegetables. Nonetheless, my meal was pretty standard so I was satisfied. Unfortunately, there were a few new friends at the table who were less than impressed with their mango margarita, chicken and waffles, as well as the Fusion burger. I truly felt bad because these ladies traveled far for our get-together, only to dig into a mediocre meal. Despite the frustrating customer service, we made the best of our time together as sisters and enjoyed a few moments of joy as we watched other patrons dance the night away.

I've been a few times and it's always pretty quiet here in terms of patrons. The music and atmosphere is always inviting -afternoon, evening or late night. I've had their oxtail and jerk chicken 8/10 for both. During my most recent visit I had the ackee and salt fish plantain bites... and I was thoroughly disappointed . The ackee was not cooked, not undercooked, just not cooked. And somehow they got all the salt and flavor out of the salt fish. Even the plantain tasted like boiled or steamed banana, there was no seasoning on it. I asked for some pepper and they didn't have, but they brought me minced score bonnet that didn't help at all. They were kind enough to replace it with coconut shrimp, it was good. The drinks were superb. Priscilla puts her foot, toe and elbow in them drinks.

I normally don't write reviews and to be honest I have no complaints about the food there a few items on the menu I have ordered and enjoyed and some you know they are testing a new cook. BUT how I was treated at FUSION EAST after reporting to the owner this was the 2nd time, I have found HAIR (gagging) in my food this was around the same time I just happened to stop by for some codfish fritter and the DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE was there conducting an inspection. So, you would think the owner wanted to listen to a customer's complaint. I ordered $25 worth of food for me and my mom, but my order was curry goat & rice I returned to work. Now whenever I eat take-out/restaurant, I always take the fork and glide it through my food you know a quick inspection I moved the 2 pcs of meat off the rice and there it was a freagin HAIR!!!! EWWWWW (gagging again) I called them let them know what happened but clock this tea....the young lady on the other end TELLS me they were just inspected, this has been an issue before and she has talked to the people in the kitchen about this. She apologizes and tells me I can come pick up my refund, i get there the hand me the receipt and inform me the money will be returned in 3-5 days NP. It slips my mind and realize the money was not returned; Days, weeks go by I just count it as a lost.Several weeks later, I order a $5 lunch special (curry goat & rice) get to work, open the container, right there no need to use my glide detection the freagin HAIR is right there. I return to the restaurant, reminded of the $25 loss from the month before NOW this.... TWICE yeah i want all my returns. The staff informs the owner of my unresolved issue, he asks for my bank statement, never did he come to speak with me to offer his apologies, offer some compensation; he wanted to see my bank statement. I let him know you can keep the $25, return my $5 I will just write a review and post my proof!!!!
