I typically solo dine whilst in NY and I usually end up at Eataly or a tonkatsu restaurant of some sort. I was looking for something more of a diner feel but better and Friedman's was my choice. The dinner menu is varied (rice bowls, Reubens, B.L.A.T., tuna melt, sweet potato fries and more). I ordered the herbed fries and chicken matzo soup. The fries were crispy hot and tasty. The soup was kinda eh. The matzo were very tender but not a lot of flavor. I had a similar issue with the broth - under seasoned and the broth was weak. On the plus side it was hot and included plenty of chicken and vegetables. Plenty of seating. The waitstaff were friendly, efficient and food came out in a timely manner.

Not bad food here. We had steak and eggs which I regret. The steak was tough, I didn't expect a filet but this was tough and not pleasant. Eggs and fries were ok but I wish I had just had eggs and bacon. It also cost $30 which I thought was high considering how much less the regular eggs are and how tough the steak was. We also had the banana bread and yogurt and fruit. Both were good. Bananas bread was soft and tasty and the yogurt tasty. So not bad but I would say over priced...

Ever since I saw Friedman's extensive Gluten Free menu, I knew I was going to visit one day. The day finally came, and it was EVERYTHING and then some! There were multiple items I wanted to try, but, knowing I plan to return soon, I started with the chicken and waffle. I definitely liked the chicken more, and while the lack of bones may not have been traditionally expected, it made it so much easier to eat, which in my opinion, is more important! The habanero honey was a delightful consistency, and just the right amount of sweet balanced with heat. The ricotta pancakes belonged to my friend, and they were a huge hit as well! Can't wait to come back and work my way through the menu!

Friedman's has several locations in the city and this one has been on my list for years, though for some reason have never had the chance to stop by. Finally came for brunch for two on a Sunday around 1:30pm and was seated within 5 minutes of arrival without reservations. There's room for maybe 5-6 people to wait at the host counter. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside, with seating for probably over 100 people taking into account the original and expanded sections. Food was very solid and I can see why they have so many locations if they're able to maintain this level of consistency. My friend got the lemon ricotta pancakes $19 which were, light, fluffy without being dry, and you could taste the lemon and ricotta clearly. Nice that it wasn't too sweet and the healthy dollop of whipped cream, fresh-cut strawberries and a drizzle of maple syrup went well with it. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich $21 that came with bacon jam, gruyere, lettuce, avocado aioli, on a ciabatta roll. That bacon jam and avocado aioli were delicious and added the right amount of salty-sweetness and creaminess to the sandwich. The chicken was tender and moist too. The herb fries that came with it were a bit of a let down, some parts were soggy and the herb flavor wasn't particularly present. Solid serving sizes for the price and location. Staff was pretty good about checking in, food came out quickly within 10 minutes of ordering. There are gender-neutral bathrooms in the back of the restaurant.

OVERALL: went here for New Year's Day brunch because it's one of the few places in this area that looks clean and modern but service was just ok. Food was good. FOOD: everything looks delicious and picture worthy. Banana bread - this was the best. It's basically like french toast but with banana bread. We added a fruit side to balance the meal. Lemon ricotta pancakes - look beautiful but are dry. Had to drown it in maple syrup and it still wasn't enough. Eggs - super fresh, probably the best part of my meal given the disappointing pancakes Hot chocolate - diner style with flavor. Loved it. Not heavy or too overpowered with chocolate Tap water - i didn't trust the tap water because it looked dirty. The waitress/hostess was taking used bottles from other tables to fill other cups and she looked frazzled so I was concerned she didn't know what she was doing/paying attention. SERVICE: see above for comments on the hostess/waiter who took our order. The gentlemen that brought out our food were great though. I think these are the cooks. VENUE: large, modern, looks clean

Neighborhood staple. Reliable and delicious. They recently moved two doors down and the new location is more of a diner vibe than the previous one. I've been to this place over two dozen times and always have a good meal! It's great because my non gluten free friends enjoy it while I can get anything on the menu made gluten free for me. Win win. The only thing on the menu that cannot be made gluten free is the matzo ball in the chicken matzo ball soup. But even without the matzo ball it's still a very yummy hearty bowl of chicken soup! The servers are really nice and helpful with dietary needs. And the gluten free items come out with gluten free tags for assurance. Favorite appetizers: Korean BBQ chicken wings, vegetable potstickers, guacamole and chipsFavorite mains: fish sandwich, braised short ribs, classic BLAT sandwich For dessert I get the banana bread every time. It comes out warm with jam and is divine

The booth seating was very comfortable. The service was accommodating. I was on a diet and I was able to ask for salad instead of hash browns with my eggs. I love the atmosphere and ambiance of this restaurant!

Stopped in for breakfast on Black Friday alone and was quickly seated at the bar. The place was pretty lively and mostly full, so be mindful for larger parties. Service was quick and staff were friendly. My meal was alright. Nothing to write home about but I wasn't offended either. I do wish the chai latte was warmer. Toast was delicious. Omelet was alright, I wish it had more flavor.

If you're looking for an easy to snag brunch spot on the weekend - Friedman's a solid pick.Personally was not a huge fan of the shahshuka I ordered - there were a ton of olives which overtook all the rest of the flavors. Maybe other dishes would have made my experience better

We were looking around the city for brunch places that weren't too busy on a Sunday morning and stumbled across Friedman's. I have heard about this place before online and was looking forward to it. However, we all found the food to be a bit lackluster. I personally got the lemon ricotta pancakes, which is what I typically opt for at brunch if I want something sweet however I found the pancakes to be not strong in lemon flavor and a bit too sweet even without syrup. They were very fluffy so I will give that to them. The restaurant itself was very packed and the seats seemed to be very close to each other. But overall the decor is matching to a brunch spot. Service could use some work, as they mostly did the bare minimum and seemed to want our table to finish up quickly. Overall, it was a good spot to try once however there are so many other brunch places Id go to next time.
