Stepping into Freemans is stepping into colonial New York. You are instantly transported to a time of rugged simple elegance. The dark paneled walls and plank floors with early American oils hangs by throughout showing off their idyllic beauty from the glass paned windows and candlelit crevices. The food was absolutely exceptional! Watermelon Feta Salad was so refreshing and the Sticky Toffee Pudding is not to be passed up. We even received two glasses of bubbly to commemorate our birthday celebration.Main courses and f Cavatelli and Steak Frites hit the mark and of course the side of Macaroni and cheese was winning combination. The Cocktails Orpheus Ascending by and Mayan Harvest were outstanding! The service from Brittany was superb. Dinner was well paced and her anticipatory attention was appreciated and noticed but unobtrusive and meld with the harmony of the rhythm of the courses served. I certainly can't wait to be back for this transportive experience. All that was missing was Alexander Hamilton sauntering in. Bravo!

We braved the cold on a Sunday afternoon to dine here with a party of four, and it was well worth it. Despite the chilly weather, the restaurant was bustling, but we were seated promptly after a brief wait. The rustic, cozy atmosphere immediately drew us in. We began with a round of cocktails: the Espresso Martini, Nude and Notorious, Freeman's Cocktail, and Dona Reyes. Each drink was well made and was reasonably priced between $17-$18.Our appetizers, Devils on Horseback and Hot Artichoke Dip, were bursting with flavor. For main courses, we opted for the Chicken and Waffle, Huevos Rancheros, and Club Sandwich. The generous portions allowed us to share three dishes comfortably among the four of us.The staff were friendly, and the ambiance was nice. We enjoyed our experience and will recommend this place to friends and family.

Excellent find on the Lower East Side. We celebrated a birthday and an early Christmas get together over brunch yesterday at Freemans. It had a warm and inviting atmosphere and the host sat us very quickly when we arrived. Entry to Freemans is via Freemans Alley which had a very cool vibe to walk through. It was freezing outside and it was brunch so we started out with a classic Bloody Mary after sitting down and getting comfortable. The menu offered a variety of brunchy dishes. At our table, we ordered two English Breakfasts and one burger. All were devoured. :)The server was very nice, prompt and accommodating. After the meal, they offered us a complimentary glass of "bubbles" for the birthday at the table which was very nice of them. We thoroughly enjoyed Freemans and recommend you try it. We'll be back for sure. Cheers!

I wish they had a dedicated fryer because the fries look so good, but they are not gluten-free. Plenty of GF options. Very good and has been for years. Its always fun to walk down the alley. It feels like time travel in there.

Had a very nice brunch at Freeman's. The restaurant is down a pretty unique alley, making for an intriguing location. The restaurant itself is beautiful, rustic and elegant, with multiple rooms, making it feel like you are dining at an old hunting lodge. Service was excellent, we did get there a few minutes before our 11am reservation and walked in, but were quickly kicked out because they were not open yet and were having a meeting. It was below freezing out, I think they could have let us wait in a corner somewhere, or at least be a little more polite about it. That was a minor point though, our waiter was excellent and very friendly. And the brunch food was very good (as were our mimosas and Bellinis). French toast and pancakes were excellent, and the bourbon maple syrup was very good. Wanted to try the sticky toffee pudding but unfortunately they didn't have any, but the flourless chocolate cake was excellent, rich but not too sweet.

Having been here many times over the years I was excited when a friend chose to celebrate her birthday here. The restaurant is dimly lit and decorated with taxidermy in a shabby chic sort of way. The food is always elevated and well prepared. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. The salmon stood out as the best dish and we enjoyed the entire evening. A little out of the way for us to be regulars but we manage to pop in now and again.

Amazing ambiance and service in the East Village!Freeman's, hidden at the end of a graffiti-covered alley, offers a cool rustic ambiance. The service was attentive, and while the food was good, I'm still searching for a truly standout dish. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely return.

Came in with a reservation on a saturday with 5 people. The restaurant is tucked away down Freeman's alley and is cozy inside. The trains were out of whack and half our party was very late, but they were excellent and accommodating! We had the english breakfast plate, the housemade granola bowl, sourdough pancakes, and the kale caesar. All were a good portion and and very tasty. The beans on the english breakfast were particularly tasty, as was the housemade granola. Definitely a cute spot worth coming out to!

Consistently a great brunch spot. Well behaved crowd. Tasteful decor. Furniture well kept and clean. Service is excellent and attentive. Food is delicious and flavorful. Club sandwich was nicely balanced with sauce and bacon. Spinach artichoke dip is very well made-- baked and fluffy with mYou can't go wrong coming to Freeman's.

I've eaten here a few times. The first time was dismal. The second time it was better. The third time, I finally have to upgrade to five stars.First, I was the first person in and had the whole place to myself for almost an hour. Sometimes it can get busy, but at 11:30 AM on a Monday was perfect. And as previously mentioned in my review and others' reviews, the decor is intagrammable--shabby and vintage, with dark wood, taxidermy, and old mirrors. The burger is pretty good. I had the chicken club this time, at the recommendation of the server. Made with garlic-herb aioli, butter lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and mixed greens. It was a great sandwich and the bacon had the perfect crisp. They have pretty solid drinks, including the Freeman's. I'm not a rye person, but this drink is rich and smooth, and the star is the orange bitters, pomegranate, and lemon. I also had the Antwilla Swizzle, made with rum, tangerine, sage, maraschino, and lime. It was a little sweeter, but still refreshing. I finished up with the Naval Trader, made with bourbon, sherry, pear, maple, turmeric, and cardamom bitters. A smoky, spicy sipper. The first time I rated Freeman's poorly because the service was awful. The second time, the service was much better. This time, my server, Gurman S (not sure if Gurman is his first or last name) was knowledgeable, on top of everything, and served me a glass of complimentary glass of champagne at the end of my meal.Little things like this over time is what brought my rating up from three, to four, and now to five.
