Everything about this place--food, ambiance, and service--was an easy 5/5. From start to finish, it was one of the better dining experiences I've had and I will 100% be back! The menu is creative and expertly executed. I tried: * Pork and Pistachio Terrine: Rich and flavorful. * Baby Gem and Duck Prosciutto: Refreshing and unique. * Squash Blossom Risotto: Creamy and packed with flavor. * Hokkaido Scallop: Tender and perfectly seared. * Eggplant Tortellini: A standout favorite with incredible depth. * Beef Tenderloin: Perfectly cooked and melt-in-your-mouth good. The Buckwheat Chocolate Ganache was the perfect ending. Decadent but not too sweet. It feels like the kind of spot that will be impossible to get a reservation at soon. Also, everything feels prix fixe-worthy, yet it's all à la carte. With its chic ambiance and impeccable service, this place gets everything right.

impeccable execution, relatively high prices ($90pp w/ tax+tip), uninspired and predictableCame here on a cut feeling that it would be very good owing to its chef's pedigree and it being so recently opened. Place was empty 30 minutes into opening but filled up around 7-8, odd given that reservations were scant. The menu was short enough that, as a party of four, we ordered effectively the entire thing. Courses were sent in groups, (small, medium, large, dessert) - a good format for sharing and less formal. The joint definitely sees itself as higher-end than other recent openings at the relevant tier (just below a michelin star) - white table-cloth, excess staff, clearing crumbs off the table, a lot of fine-dining french influence.Overall, the execution was impeccable. Dishes were creative enough to get by (rose-infused tomato salad, trout torchon), but I think they miss the point. Creativity is a way to express emotion, to evoke emotion, to challenge the diners, or to surprise; the food at Field Guide did none of these. You almost want to laugh at the dessert menu (meringue with citrus), because a generative AI model could have predicted it. The meringue was good but boring.Prices per dish are relatively low but dishes are small - we paid 90pp without drinks and probably could have ordered another dish. If you order drinks, you'd probably find yourself at a price point at which you can find something more interesting in the city.Given its location and its appeal to fine-dining, I'm sure they will do well. My friends enjoyed it, but there was nothing to discuss. On the other hand, there's so much creativity in the city right now that I fear this place will get lost in the shuffle.

Wow- very disappointing. All the other reviews are written in such a way that makes me think they might be paid or at least associated with people at this restaurant. I was extremely excited to try this place given the background of the chef.I went in on a recent Saturday night and the place was dead. The interior is very 2000 Nordic. It's trying to look like it's fine dining, but the playlist is very casual. The best thing about this restaurant was the staff. The server and GM were very nice. We're very good beyond that I would never go back. Started with the clams and cockles that had I believe it was Sherry or Vermouth -some type of alcohol in the sauce the alcohol was not burned off, and all you could taste was the booze you could not taste any clam or anything else - super overpowering. They had the recommended dumpling, which was one large dumpling that was somewhat dry inside and literally had four slivers of chicken. It was sold as a chicken and dumpling southern dish and it was just one bowl of bread with a few chicken pieces on it that were not even tasty. Also also had the fish wrapped in cabbage for the price. It was ridiculous. The cabbage and the fish tasted nice, but it was very bland in terms of a basic American French flair also again in a white sauce. It was a good dish, but there didn't seem any point for the fish to actually be wrapped in the cabbage, except the fact that you got very little fish overall. Finally ended with the pork jowl. It was good but a little tough the sauce with it was very good, but I wish I had more because the meat itself was a bit dry. There was also butchers twine left on the pork when it was delivered to the table. My dining companion hit the nail on the head the atmosphere and the food are completely solace and there's no point of view to this restaurant other than just very high priced eggs and making money there was no love behind anything. There was no warmth. There was nothing that made this place Something special that you wanna go back to. Very, very disappointed I don't think this place will last long at all.Nowadays with New York City competition and prices being so high, you have to really provide an experience or some sort of emotion or some sort of take away with customers and diners . My grade for this was a B minus.

Overall I enjoyed my dining experience and would recommend. I will say, the food portions are quite small (and for the price), so just come knowing that. Ambiance / Service: restaurant is fairly small. It's elevated & refined in a simplistic way without feeling too stuffy. Would be good for a date night or nice intimate celebration. Exposed brick, white table clothes, bright lighting, & a very small bar at the back. Restaurant isn't very big (and it's quite narrow), so I'm not sure this would be good for groups bigger than 4-6. Server was friendly & knowledgeable about the menu, but service was a bit slow. They forgot my drink order and it took awhile between some courses (dinner was 3 hours). Plus side, we didn't feel rushed!Food: menu is quite small. And it's not organized by "starters", "mains", etc. Server recommended ~3 dishes PER person. I came with a group of 4, so we ordered almost everything on the menu. Like I said, portions are small. It's more like fine dining portions. If dining with 4+ people and sharing I would recommend either ordering a decent sampling of the menu or ordering multiples of some of the dishes. The standouts were:-Pork & Pistachio Terrine (we enjoyed so much we ordered 2). -Baby Gem & Duck Prosciutto Salad (nothing crazy, but fresh and flavorful).-Butternut Squash Rillete-Eggplant Tortellini (can't taste the eggplant, just tastes like creamy cheesy pasta!)-Squash Blossom Risotto -Pork Loin Prime Rib (this was the best main. Highly recommend. Whatever the pork is wrapped in is delicious). -Beef Tenderloin -Buckwheat Chocolate Ganache (quite rich, but good!)Ones to possibly reconsider:-Gulf Pink Shrimp (nothing inherently "wrong" with the dish, but it was one of the least flavorful).-Rainbow Trout (the only dish we didn't finish. There was zero flavor or seasoning. Not sure if something was off in the kitchen, but it was not enjoyable at all).

We are so excited to try this new restaurant for just opening 2 months! The restaurant is neat and cozy. The food and service is good. It would be better if they have more selection in the menu so we can try more different foods in the future.

Our favorite new spot in Williamsburg! I have been hearing great things about Field Guide from a couple of friends so we decided to check it out early on a rainy Friday night. We don't go out as much as we used to as we have a baby but they were incredibly accommodating in providing a high chair just based off of our reservation notes. The interior is gorgeous, the drinks were impeccable and service was warm yet attentive. The style of dining is small plates to be shared. We tried the gem salad, langoustines, the dumpling, the spaghetti, and the Iberico ham. Delicious and beautifully presented! We will be back!

The experience itself was nice: attentive service, interesting-sounding menu, cool space. However, the food has some room for improvement.-Bread and orange-zest butter: appreciated the interesting butter and the bread was nice- Baby gem & duck prosciutto salad: we love a good baby gem salad but the duck really didn't add anything to the flavoring- Tomato & apple: I can't decide if I'm upset at myself for spending $13 on this. The flavor overall was okay but could have easily skipped this and thought not twice about it- Gulf shrimp: I actually appreciated the combination of flavors for this and found the choice of shrimp for this dish interesting- Hokkaido scallop: this was maybe the highlight of the night. Perfectly tender scallops in a delightful broth. But 2 scallops for $19 is ....not my favorite- Roast chicken: we usually wouldn't have ordered this but tried to save a bit of money by not going the beef route. I was pleasantly surprised by this. I felt like the sauce was nice and the chicken skin was great. The only standout of the night- Squash blossom risotto: I will never dislike a pesto-based dish so I thought this was fine but even I felt like it was a bit too much pesto.- Buckwheat chocolate ganache: truly the only reason we ordered this was to spend enough to get the $50 off as advertised on the website and would not recommend this for any other reason. The buckwheat and the ganache did not work together to create anything worth ordering.

We have dined at this restaurant twice in the last month and cannot say enough about how delicious the food was. Our group decided to share all the dishes, which allowed us to try almost everything on the menu. Everything was delicious, but my favorite was the eggplant tortellini and lamb shank. The staff could not be more attentive and the restaurant is beautiful. 5 STARS!!!

Great atmosphere and service. Drinks were great and the staff does a great job of suggesting pairings as well as giving description explanations of each dish. 6 plates was a solid amount of food for 2 people. Also, the bread was great; citrus butter that came with it, even better -Tomato & Apple: solid starter, but nothing to write home about. 7.1/10-Baby gem & duck prosciutto: unfortunately overpowered by the horseradish and not too much prosciutto. 6.6/10-Hokkaido scallop: delicious small bite, no notes! 8.5/10-Butternut squash rillette: really enjoyed this as well. There was some sort of smokey bacon bits within this one that was a great addition. 8.3/10-Eggplant tortellini: you are a criminal if you go to field guide and don't get this dish. It was phenomenal. Best item on the menu by a long shot. Bravo. 9.4/10-Roast chicken: generous portion and well-made chicken. Maybe a tad boring but that may just be in comparison to all the other dishes involving so much creativity. 7.8/10Worth a visit for sure.
