Early Terrible New York City

The best thing about New York City is any moment, your plans can change. Any time, you can make a right instead of a left, and you find a magical adventure or some sort of treasure.I was on my way to one of my regular places when I passed Early Terrible and it was completely empty. Not a single patron (a couple more parties did come in later, and they did tell me Saturday--I stopped in on a Sunday--was one of their busiest nights ever).It's a cute, sophisticated, and intimate. Service is prompt and down to earth and makes great recommendations. A disco ball splayed lights across the wall and easy listening tunes set the mood.This is technically categorized as a Croatian restaurant, and I can see that in some of the dishes, but I am not knowledgeable enough to tie it all together. I did love everything that I had however!I had the truffle tagliatelle, which was rich, cooked perfectly, and boasted sharp, pungent, complex flavors. I was down to that or the pappardelle lamb ragu, but the server recommended the truffle dish. I also had blitva and potatoes, a traditional Croatian dish made with veggies such as Swiss chard, potatoes, carrots, beans, and olive oil. It was savory and light and a perfect accompaniment.Other starters and entrees include: confit duck leg croquettes, beet salad, octopus salad, chicken and duck liver toast, lobster and carrot ravioli, oysters, wood fired broccoli, dry aged pork chop, daily seafood special, a burger, and more.Cocktails were delicious, creative, and complex.I had:Go bananas: rum, banana, dry vermouth, fresh lime, pastis de Marseille. Didn't taste like artificial banana, which I hate. It had a deep, almost absinthe/licorice taste.Part time lover: cassamigos resposado, st. Germaine, aperol, fresh lemon, angostura bitters. Light and refreshing.Mezcal penicillin: mezcal, ginger syrup, fresh lemon, scotch rinse. Petite drink that goes down easy, offering a multitude of flavors.The smoke signal: mezcal, amaro di angostura, tamarind puree, fresh lime, pineapple, spicy salt. Again, light and refreshing, but with a a smoky, slightly spicy taste. More complex and enjoyable than the ubiquitous jalapeño margarita.I didn't try desert, but people seem to love it.Will definitely come back here again.

A dessert at Early Terrible in NYC is the perfect way to end a night. The standout for us was the crepe--delicate, buttery, and filled with just the right amount of sweetness. It's a simple yet unforgettable dish that pairs beautifully with one of their expertly crafted cocktails.Speaking of drinks, their cocktail menu is top-tier, featuring creative, balanced options that elevate the whole experience. After dessert, make sure to check out their club space downstairs--it's a vibe, with great music and a cool, intimate atmosphere that's perfect for extending the night. Early Terrible nails it from start to finish, and we can't wait to go back to try their entrees!

came here for drinks and a few apps with a friend last night. The restaurant is SO UNDERRATED! The restaurant itself was pretty small but the vibes were fun! It was dimly lit and there was a disco ball which was fun. Our waiter was very kind and let us enjoy our cocktails and didn't press us to order quickly as we wanted to hang for a bit. I got the porn star martini which was delicious. My friend and I split the squid ink crispy rice first which was quite delicious. The rice was (obviously) crispy and warm in the middle and the topping was a tiny bit spicy but didn't take over the other flavors which I loved. Then we got the beet and goat cheese salad which was similarly very yummy. The perfect start to our night and so easy and fun and great service. I really would love to come back at some point to try some of the other things on the menu they look so delicious.

Such a great vibe inside -- they have lights and a disco ball going. Perfect for a girls night out! Also I really liked the food. Started with the squid ink crispy rice before splitting the burger and fries (greatttt fries) and squash ravioli. Would recommend everything except the truffle martini -- just stick to a normal martini.

Early terrible, new Croatian spot? When I saw the menu online I knew I was in for a treat but I didn't think that the food was going to be as good as it was. Grace was a doll and told me all about the cultural influences, cocktails and mock tails she had to offer. Usually when I eat out I find it hard to decide what I really want, this time it was equally as difficult but I solved it the only way I knew how, by practically ordering everything on the menu. Apps are always my favorite and none of them fell short of spectacular. Chicken liver pâté was smooth, rich and decadent. The warm rustic bread was a perfect pairing. It kept on getting better from there. Fresh scallop crudo with notes of citrus and fruit? Sign me up for another order. And don't even get me started on the squid ink crispy rice. Don't be afraid of the black rice. Your palette with be showered with notes of fresh and velvety sushi grade tuna and a warm burn from the calabrian chili. No spicy mayo in sight, just the way I like it.Had a lovely tamarind ginger mule while transitioning into the main courses. My favorites were the grilled octopus/croatian octopus salad, pork chop and wood fired chicken. The pork chop was perfectly salted, meaty, crispy, and delicious. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and fell off the bone. The sides were also bomb. The Swiss chard and potatoes were chefs kiss. An unusual addition to the evening was the wood fires romanesco broccoli (green cauliflower) in a rich tomato sauce. Never had anything like it but can see myself ordering again when feeling frisky. I was stuffed but Grace insisted on some dessert to end on a sweet note. Basque cheesecake was decadent and flavorful, creamy but not too rich. Strawberry rhubarb crepe was perfectly balanced and not too sweet, just the right amount of tart and bite. This little gem is tucked away on broome and if you walked by with your head in the clouds you might not even notice it. This place turns into a lounge with fun music and vibes I can't wait to be wined and dined here again soon!

Went to celebrate a friends birthday. Server was amazing and the food was great. It wasn't until we were leaving that the owner of the establishment physically bumped into my friend outside who was in the middle of putting her coat on and called her "baby". When she didn't reciprocate his advances, he turned around and immediately started spewing profanities at her. He repeatedly called her a c*nt and ordered the bouncer to "never let that c*nt back inside the restaurant if she tries". Not sure what ticked him off but nothing warranted that sort of behavior or language towards customers who spent a well amount of money just dining in his restaurant. There were several witnesses to this incident and everybody was mortified- as well as many people waiting outside. You don't speak to anyone like that. The bouncer who hadn't even witnessed the situation then blamed the woman who didn't reciprocate the owners advances, and said she must've did something to be spoken to like that. Will NEVER return here. Owner needs a serious reality check.

The service was good but for some reason right before I was about to tap my card, the waitress holding the card scanner went to the bar to ask a question and subsequently I was charged $60 for 2 drinks... I paid but looking back it should've been only 40 - not sure what happened here

Great new spot. Drinks were solid, good service, and vibe was perfectly lowkey. Will definitely be coming again.

We had the BEST dinner with Kristina as our server!! The food and drinks are amazing - order Smoke Signals the and you will not regret. Will definitely be back!
