My partner and I decided to try Don New Fusion for a fun casual date night, as we love ourselves some Izakaya, and we were thoughtoughly pleased with our experience! We tried A LOT of food as their menu is extensive covering everything from hot + cold apps, sushi, yakitori, noodles, and the titular dons. We ended up starting with their karage (called popcorn chicken) and a trio of cold dishes (seaweed, tako wasabi, and baby octopus) and everything was incredible - may be some of the best karage we've had in the past few years. We then got some nigiri and yakitori to spit (stand out was the eel, but all good), and then we split the mini don set - which was such a fun way to try many of their signatures! The service was very quick, friendly, and attentive - particularly, Ling was great! Overall - we will be back again!

Walk up to the second floor and you'll immediately fall in love with Don Neo Fusion's warm, cozy vibes. I was so charmed by the lights, anime figurines, and other decor adorning this space. The mini don set lured me in. It's six "small" rice bowls of salmon tuna tartare, eel avocado, kani, shrimp, beef, and creamy corn. You get a lot of food, so it's easily shareable between two people. I couldn't eat the shrimp so my partner had that. My favorite was the eel, which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. They gave a hefty portion of beef, which was yummy with a sweet savory sauce, but not as thin and tender as I would've liked. The tartare was good but a bit too creamy. The corn was a perfectly fine and refreshing side. And the kani, which I was really looking forward to, was a little too thick and heavy from the sauce, and kinda mushy.Had we known the set would be so filling, we would've called it a night, but we'd also ordered the Ocean in a Bowl with raw scallops, shrimp, squid, salmon, and tuna. Scallops are almost always the best part, but all of the seafood was fresh and tasty. The complimentary house tea also helped us feel toasty and relaxed on this dreary February day. Our waiter was very nice, and we never felt rushed at all. I'd happily return to try other dishes in the future.

I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I could. Love the restaurant itself, the servers were so friendly and asked us if we wanted to move & sit by the window after the previous table left! It was a beautiful day out & getting to look out onto the busy street was fun! I also love the ambiance of the restaurant and decor. We got Takowasa, Unagi Don, and Salmon Don.Takowasa - loved this dish, love the chewy raw octopus & the spice of the wasabi.Unagi Don - really enjoyed this dish, more than salmon don! I think I would have enjoyed this one more if the unagi and tamago weren't chopped up. I feel like it made the mouth-feel of the bowl a bit odd & would have liked bigger chunks of the eel & egg.Salmon Don - the torched salmon was nice, but I think the mayo was a bit toooo heavy handed. The amount of mayo made it feel like I was having more mayo than salmon itself. I would probably try something else next time.Overall, I would come again to try other items & for the great energy and service!

I came across this restaurant on Instagram and was intrigued to check it out. After work on a Friday evening, I met up with a friend, and we found it to be a cozy, laid-back spot. I loved that there was plenty of seating, with the option to sit at the bar as well. The izakaya has a diverse menu, but the two main offerings are donburi (rice bowls) and ramen. I had considered the mini don set, which includes six different types, but decided to go for a single bowl instead since I wasn't super hungry. I tried the Gyu Don, and it was absolutely delicious. For an extra $6, you can get a side of miso soup. The Gyu Don looked small at first, but was surprisingly filling with a generous amount of meat. The rich, runny egg enhanced the subtle flavors of the meat and sesame oil. I also got an iced mango green tea, which had real mango chunks in it. The service was quick, and the food came out fast! Overall, I highly recommend this place as a great local spot.

I had a great experience at this newly opened restaurant. I came on a weekday for lunch and tried the mini don. This was 6 smaller donburi bowls so you could experience all the flavors. Every dish was well seasoned. I would suggest sharing one mini don between two people with an appetizer or main dish. The interior was clean and very well decorated. The service was also quick. I would definitely come back for the weekday lunch special!

Such a cute hidden gem in Brooklyn Heights! Surprisingly extensive menu, including donburi, sushi, ramen/udon, supersized nigiri(!!), and more. Great service and a tranquil atmosphere as well (Monday evening we had the place almost to ourselves).I was drawn to the Mini Don Set for the variety and I loved it! It's $30 but you get 6 bowls, and though they may look small and cute they are actually quite a meal all together. My favorite bowls were the tuna salmon tartare and the unagi but really none of them disappointed. This order does take longer for the kitchen to prepare (extra ~15 mins) so keep that in mind.My friend ordered the Unagi Don ($18) and it was a good serving. It had tamagoyaki egg cubes and thin slivers of seaweed and I really enjoyed it. FYI the most popular donburi order according to the waiter is the Chicken Katsu Don.Service was attentive but uninstrusive - my friend and I were barely interrupted but never had trouble flagging anyone down. We also spent over 2 hours there and never felt rushed to leave. Since the restaurant is tucked away on the second floor, you get a peaceful reprieve from the main downtown street. This place is a great choice for an affordable and delicious meal - I will be back for sure.
