Visited NYC during the humid, hot summer and Cha-An's desserts definitely hit the spot! The inside is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It really embraces Japanese decor and makes you feel like you're in a Japanese tea house. One issue I do foresee is accessibility for those who cannot walk up the steep stairs to reach the actual sitting area. The menu is super unique too. We decided to order:1. Hojicha Shaved Ice - The roasted tea flavor is very authentic and is definitely there. The dessert was not too sweet and the ice was nice and fluffy.2. Matcha Tiramisu - BEST tiramisu I've ever had! Matcha can be bitter if not used correctly, but this tiramisu had the perfect combination of sweetness from the red bean balanced with the bitterness of the matcha powder. The cream was very light and fluffy!3. Iced Rose Matcha - This drink was a little disappointing. The rose flavor was lacking and because it was just matcha with water and "rose flavor", the drink fell flat for me. It was definitely not worth the price. The match was refreshing, but once the ice melted, it just felt like I was drinking green water. Overall, Cha-An has desserts you can't get anywhere else, and I am looking forward to my next trip so I can try more of their amazing desserts!

Came into this place excited for some tea and left utterly disappointed. We waited for a table for two for approximately 10-15 minutes, which isn't terrible, but wasn't great for how narrow the staircase is, and traffic coming from the upstairs. We were seated and after waiting another 15 minutes, were finally able to order. We ordered a rose matcha, sencha, mochi mochi, and matcha tiramisu. These were good for the most-part, the only big complaint was how sweet the iced matcha was. All of the negatives of this experience were negligible until checking out. Considering the wait times and mediocre service, we only tipped a couple bucks. This was followed up with the waitress telling us to change the check or leave cash tips. The audacity and absurdity of this will not have us returning any time soon. Harassing customers to leave bigger tips with minimal service is insanity, especially when the prices on the menu are already extremely high. Extremely disappointing and shocking end to our experience.

Tried their matcha affogato and it was amazing. Not too sweet and the bits of coconut give the dessert a different flavor profile. I loved the ice cream and the matcha pour over. Only wished I savored it longer because I devoured it. Service was attentive with plenty of seats for small to mid size parties

My friend and I stopped by Cha-An because we wanted to try out a new dessert. We entered right when they opened, so we were seated very quickly. The venue inside is very small, but cozy so it seems a bit harder to dine-in with a large party. We got the matcha parfait and it was very delicious. A light sweet dessert that had a mix of Asian flavors to it. We loved the mochi balls and the crunch from the Frosted Flakes. It was my first time trying Dango Dango and I don't think I would get it again. The texture wasn't very pleasant to me, but my friend enjoyed them. Overall, I would definitely come back to try their other menu items!Food: 4/5Service: 4/5Ambiance: 4/5

This place sells overpriced matcha items. The only good thing going for this place is its ambience and pretty interior. I got the strawberry matcha promo latte and it was $15 + mandatory tip so ended up being close to $20....for a drink?? Kinda ridiculous. There is also a mandatory rule of everyone having to order something. They don't tell you this until you're already seated....seems a bit crappy. The server also stopped us from leaving demanding tip when there was no service of any kind? She just took our order and was not even the one to give us the drinks. She asked us if there was anything wrong with the service and made us give her a tip.... for what service exactly? She didn't give us any water, no check ups, no utensils or napkins.... she was not that kind either. Would not recommend or come back

Came with my sister for a lil sweet treat recently and am in love with the ambiance! It's on the second floor in east village and feels like you're walking into a Japanese tea house- super peaceful and serene. Service is super attentive- always refilling your water etc.We ordered the dango (which came with taro, yuzu, and strawberry mochi), and the matcha affogato. The matcha quality was amazing but the affogato was covered in coconut which kinda overpowered it. The dango was chewy and delicious- my favorite was the taro! Price wise it's a bit on the expensive side, but I think having this nice peaceful reprieve from bustling EV is worth the price!

Such a quaint and peaceful spot - cozy space, cute decorations, as reminiscent of Japan that I've found in NYC. Stopped by for a lil sweet treat on a Friday afternoon.Plenty of desserts and tea to choose from (one item per person). We got the matcha parfait, seasonal kakigori, and hojicha. They did have meals and cocktails as well, which we did not try. Private room in the back that is reservable for larger parties. Overall, nice intimate space for a relaxing catch-up with friends or cute date spot.

Friday night 8:20pm (they close at 9...eek we're thoseeee people) and while we did have to wait for a while to get a seat, once we were seated, we ordered and everything came out so fast. Dessert was perfect: just enough sweetness but everything was refined. Super cute place especially if youre on a first date or second or every date thereafter.

Very cramped space but super expensive for matcha desserts given the abundance of options in the city now. However, super authentic

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally got a chance recently during the Christmas week. We 4 were there around 4pm on a Thursday and waited around 25 minutes to get in. The place is bigger than I expected as it is on the second floor through the small entrance on ground level. The interior has a nice cozy, wooden and Japanese vibe. I got the Hojicha Anmitsu and really liked it - the hojicha ice cream was very rich and goes very well with the agar jelly at the bottom (the brown sugar syrup adds to the sweetness nicely). The hot matcha latte is great for balancing the temperature on a cold winter day. It is more on the pricey side with each dessert around $20 each, but worth a visit for a treat when you crave authentic japanese desserts.
