The eggplant Parmesan hero here is like an Italian torta ahogada - drenched from head to toe in their piquant tomato sauce, and very difficult to eat from a practical standpoint. The breaded eggplant is separated into delicate thin slices adorned with a relatively light layer of stretchy white cheese.Maybe it's because I'm a hater and it's easy to dislike Major Food Group's empire of overhyped restaurants, but I'm going to say that Carmentas' eggplant parm hero is better than the one at Parm.

Came here for a late lunch/early dinner on a rainy Sunday, and there was only one other table of people. It's a pretty small space, but there's nice seating along a counter so you can people watch while you're eating. You order at the front, and then they bring it to you when your order is ready. We shared a spaghetti dish as well as as a side of marinated artichokes. The spaghetti was absolutely delicious, and the sauce was so good. I wish that I had extra pasta to finish up the sauce with. The artichokes were not bad, but we did both get stomach aches after, so we are pretty sure it might have been the artichoke... I can definitely see myself coming here when I'm craving Italian food if I'm in the area!

Super slow on orders, even though there was hardly anyone in the shop. The pasta is unremarkable, simple and expensive. What Carmenta's is known for is their subs. We got the spicy eggplant parm sub, but after waiting 20+ mins for it, we were disappointed to receive a soggy, greasy sandwich. Don't think we'll be coming back.

I came here with a friend on a Sunday night for dinner. We got there around 7pm, and all the tables were full. The inside is like a deli, so there isn't a ton of seating. We decided to get our pasta to-go.By the time our food was ready, some tables had freed up, so we took a seat with our take-out containers. I had the mafalde with beef bolognese. The pasta was incredible; it was homemade, texturally very exciting, and al dente. My friend had the radiatore with kale pesto, which was also very good.

Yummy things only at Carmentas. I've been twice for the same Italian special here, it's THAT good. Great bread, great meat, veggies, and perfectly sauced. Unless you have a massive appetite this is a good size to split with another person. I'm so interested in trying the pastas here soon as well.

Wonderful neighborhood spot with casual Italian! For under $20, the generous portion of rigatoni was an 8/10, with a flavorful but well-balanced vodka sauce. Could've been a tad bit more spiced, but hard to complain. Pasta tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. You can tell all the food is cooked fresh-to-order because it's a small open-kitchen in the back, and the dish came out piping hot. It's open seating for a pretty small space, so it got a little crowded on a rainy Saturday night. I imagine it'd be even busier if the weather was better.A definite must-visit if you're in the area, otherwise, it's worth making the trip out at least once if you live farther out.

Arrived on a Saturday just as it hit 5pm. It was not busy but it was starting to pick up. By the time my food was ready, I was able to score one of the few tables they had. I ordered the pasta with the red sauce, and the pasta pesto. The pasta with the red sauce was perfect- the sauce tasted very fresh. The pasta pesto was just okay. I'm not sure what they use in it, but I don't think there's any basil. The flavor is different than I expected, but topping it with breadcrumbs was a nice touch. I was also hoping to try their vodka sauce, but as it turns out it's not freshly made there? or for some reason they were unable to make it without meat. I suppose this is my one major disappointment.Otherwise, good experience overall and I'd probably return for the red sauce if in the area again.

Unbelievably good rustic Italian. This small, unassuming shop has a few tables & no waitstaff. No bells, no whistles... Carmentas instead focuses on fresh pasta (cooked perfectly) fresh sauce & simple yet bold flavors. I went with "Italian Meat & Potatoes" Mafalde with Braised Beef & a rice ballJust a fantastic culinary experience, do yourself the favor, but don't show up in a rush. Really good food takes a few minutes to make.

Four stars for delicious rigatoni. This is an old school italian shoppe for take out food or a few tables to eat quickly at. The downside is the price and that service isn't very friendly. You are going to have to ask for utensils and Parnassian cheese on your food
