"I finally got around to trying omakase in nyc! Took a lil bit to get settled in a new city but I'm so glad this was first here. I'm a huge fan of omakase and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much cheaper it is here than in CA (which averages $200 for not that many pieces). They took such good care of me here! Thank you to all the waitresses who made sure I was having a good time. I wanted to treat myself to my recent accomplishments in life so I went on my own. I know dining alone can be intimidating for some people but you will definitely not feel alone here! I highly recommend getting the $100 set. It's really filling and the fancier nigiri options are so worth it."

"Really lovely experience at Towa! I got the W Course option, which has a diverse selection of well prepared and delicious dishes. Highlights for me were the soba noodles and the oysters - just so refreshing, particularly on a summer day. I also enjoyed the sushi; every piece was so fresh, although the wasabi flavor for a few pieces were a bit strong for my taste. I also got an Ichigo cocktail, which was so delicious and had an interesting peppercorn flavor that actually enhanced the drink. While the omakase spots are hard to come by, will definitely consider coming back to try the omakase experience if I get the chance!"
"The food tasted great. Cooked to order. Nice to have a healthy meal close to our hotel."
"Amazing, come here, so good. The rolls are the standouts but everything is good. This location is a little more casual and laid-back than the nomad location."
"The Sushi Lab was a pretty good omakase experience with solid ingredients for a good price. The interior design was nice and the service was very friendly. The pacing of each item was good and I enjoyed the little game they had for the patrons. Each item was executed very well, but my only comment is that there weren't any stand out speciality dishes that set Sushi Lab apart from the many other omakase spots in the city. I feel like the menu is pretty consistent with most of the other spots. I definitely would love to come back, but I do suggest having one really unique stand out dish."
"This place is so beautiful! Clean and a good place to rest and eat your food in peace. Service is fast and the food is delicious! The spicy beef ramen was to die for!!!"
"As I said back in 2016, I repeat in 2023, CRAVE Fishbar is a definite keeper. Last night 12/12, we recently returned with friends to celebrate the holiday season. The restaurant was bustling in merriment. We started off with a platter of 24 delicious briny East Coast bivalves (oysters, matey!) which went down well with our yummy spicy 'Good Life' margaritas. All followed by small plates of: Salmon Sashimi tostadas, Silky Fluke Nigiri, Grilled Octopus w fennel, crunchy Brussel sprouts with chorizo, grilled Cauliflower with jalapeño + cheese. All delicious and good! Our evening concluded with Crave's luscious silky Red Velvet Cheesecake. A good choice! *Merry Happy + Season's Greetings to all! Cheers!***Peace On Earth**Thank you"
"YummmmThis is my favorite spot to get Japanese food in NYC.This establishment has been here since Covid - there's a lot of seating especially during lunch time.I usually get the salmon meal with multi grain rice and onsen tamago with salmon roe.The food is delicious This place is a great for a solo meal or for sitting down with friends.Highly recommend if you're in the area!"
"Sushi was ok. REALLY thin layer of rice on sushi. The dumplings were ok but definitely nothing to write home about. It was meh! If you need something quick and are starving with zero time to search for anything else"
"Beautiful restaurant and experience. Probably one of the most vibey omakase I've been in the city. While it's not cheap, you do get a multi course omakase meal that features all sorts of fresh fish shipped straight from Japan. Favorites - Otoro, Akami tuna. Minced tuna hand roll, Amberjack, Uni, and Scallop roll.Service was attentive and loved the ambiance. Chef Noda is a true gem!"
"A full vegan restaurant with so much variety and amazing dishes. We reserved a table for Monday evening dinner with friends. Our table was ready at scheduled time upon arrival. The has two floors, the big bar is on the first floor, lower floor has a smaller bar and few more dining space, with some wonderful interior. The menu had lots of small plates, sushi rolls, shareable entrees and of lots of drinks. We ordered 10-12 items all together. Most of the dishes were really incredible. Some of the best ones were bang bang broccoli, bao slider, avocado lime tartare, chili garlic tofu, dragon roll and spicy tuna roll. All items came out at a decent pace, we were able to enjoy the dinner for almost 3 hours. The 500ml sake was got enough for 2 rounds of shots for 4 people. I liked the cucumber mint lemonade as well. We ended the dinner with a chocolate brownie and matcha cheesecake, both were decent dessert items. The service was amazing throughout the night. Our server was a pro. He kept checking on the table, took out empty plates, kept filling up water and drinks. Never thought a vegetarian restaurant could be this much creative and popular, was really amazed by the experience."

I love omakase and decided to check out one of their locations. We booked a table ahead of time and was seated right away when arrived. This is the most thoroughly explained omakase I have been to. The chef explained every piece as it came out and told us how to eat each one. The staff was friendly and we were full by the end which normally doesn't happen at omakase.

Good ambience, a little quiet but the decorations were nice! As for the food, we ordered the sashimi + udon lunch special (udon instead of minisoba for no extra charge) and the seafood ramen. The food looks super nice and the portions are quite big, but I do think the quality could be better. The ramen noodles felt like they were from an instant pack, although the amount of seafood was generous, and the same thing with the quality could be said about the sashimi. Overall, I had a nice experience but think the food could be higher quality for the price.

Came to Towa on a weekend with some friends and reserved a spot about a week ahead with plenty of openings and probably could have walked in. The restaurant was very simple and elegantly decorated, which made it look very upscale. We had a pretty big table for ourselves and did not feel like it was over crowded or too close to the tables next to us. Our servers were very nice and overall we were satisfied with the service. The food was really good! I have only good impressions of the cooking. Each dish was fairly small so you may want to get a bunch in order to feel full. We had the tomato, duck breast, chicken wings, tofu, and each dish had unique blend of flavors. The sushi was mediocre, but maybe bc we did not order the right kind. The rest of the food were delicious, including the soba noodles. Would definitely recommend the tapas here and would love to come again!

Came here for lunch with a few friends. Came with the idea that we'd sit down and eat together, but the location definitely is limited in it's real estate, with just a handful of tables and chairs, and even then it's a little bit tight. Ordering is generally pretty easy but don't make the same mistake I did and ask for no receipt, that's the only way you'll know what your order number is when they call it! Food is pretty good, especially for a place that I would consider closer to a take out place. Value is really where this place shines though. Their lunch specials are a pretty good deal and give you a good variety with generous portion sizes. I went with their lunch bento box, and was plenty satisfied. I do wish there was a little more variety to choose from sushi roll wise, but they still have a good selection. Definitely also want to come back when it's cooler and try their hot food options to see how those might stack up as well

I would say a 4.5/5! The food is very good and memorable. My partner and I got an array of different dishes:Crispy Rice 10/10Spinach & Artichoke Dip 8/10Chi'kn Mushrooms 8/10 Chorizo Pizza 9/10Key Lime Pie 10/10 (Must Try!) The service was attentive, but very slow. The ambiance is boho chic and relaxed. I would come here with a friend on a weekday.

Great omakase experience. I love the more creative/progressive style of sushi. Favorite piece of the night was definitely the arctic char.

Their service was impeccable!! Entered with a kind greeting along with the menu being served right away, very easy to order. We ordered both chicken and shrimp tempura udon soups, non of which I've ever tried. The broth was SO flavorful and I appreciate the pickled radish and spices alongside it. The chicken was well cooked and very flavorful! Their food presentation was so neat and very picture worthy. Only con for the shrimp tempura was how thin the fish was, most of it being batter. I'd also wish the fish was served aside as it did become very soggy being served in the soup itself. The environment was clean and very spacious with nice lighting too. They also have a bathroom, well cleaned and kept up nicely. I'd definitely come back and try their sushi next.Thanks.

Great experience, large selection of fresh oysters, Bloody Mary's were the best, had the salmon eggs Benedict, perfectly runny eggs to make the kind of mess that makes a meal great . Fish and waffles, who knew!

"TL;DR Go for the izakaya ambiance. Prices are low, but quality isn't high. Order up and share plates/drinks.Kenka, located in NYC's East Village, is a pub serving both traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. While walking through St. Mark's Place, the crowd of people gathered at the entrance caught our eyes. We decided to give it a try! There's a clipboard at the front for you to write your name down on the waitlist. Weekends are PACKED, so be prepared. The first notable thing I have to say about this place is that the decor and ambiance are spot on. The entire restaurant is decorated head to toe in Japanese memorabilia. You will really feel like you were transported to an izakaya in Japan. It's loud, a bit rowdy, and very dark in there. Actually, a bit too dark because we were struggling to read the menu. It was also FREEEEEZING COLD... I don't know why they didn't have their heaters blasting on a 15 degree day. Wild.Anyway... we squinted our eyes in the dark as hard as we could to look through the menu. There's a large variety of dishes to choose from, ranging from street-style food to sushi to noodles to grilled meats to seafood to desserts and so on. They also have a full drinks menu with sake, beer, wine, ramune, and milk teas, so you can drink your heart away. Prices are SURPRISINGLY CHEAP! You can definitely order and share a bunch of items tapas style. We ordered:*Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) with curry and rice $9.50 - I was disappointed in this. The breading wasn't crispy or flaky enough and the pork wasn't that tender. I've had much better. The curry was good though; it had the right amount of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors. *Yakisoba (stir-fried noodles with pork, squid, vegetables) $8.50 - Skimpy portions of meat and too many vegetables for my liking. They chopped up the squid in pieces that were so small... The noodles were decent, but nothing to rave about.*Miso Ramen $9 - My +1 liked this and finished the whole bowl.*(2) Sake (Japanese rice wine) $9 each - We both got the Junmai sake. This was actually the highlight of the meal! It was strong and refreshing, but went down smoothly with a dry finish. Overall, the food was average and was just enough to fill our bellies when we were starving. The cheap prices made up for it.Service could have been improved. It took awhile for someone to come over to our table once we sat down. Our server didn't introduce himself and wasn't very attentive throughout the dinner. After we placed our initial order, we didn't see him until it was time for the check. I understand that they're super busy, but that doesn't excuse lackluster or poor service. When we got the check, we were also given small cups of these pink powder mixes. We had NO IDEA what this was... we even googled it lol. We wanted to wait and ask our server, but didn't want to be stuck waiting there in the cold restaurant any longer. It wasn't until I did my research later on... The pink powder they give you is a COTTON CANDY MIX! They have a machine at the front of the restaurant where you can make your own for free. That's such a cute idea and a sweet way to end a meal. I wish they would have just told us because we would never have figured it out. Oh well."
"We came here to celebrate Father's Day. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The place is located at the corner of the street with beautiful outside seating. We sat inside for our meal. They had a number for specials on their menu. We tried the tempura fresh water eel. It was delicious. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. We also had this miso fish. It was not fishy at all. I loved the fried lotus roots on the dish as well. It was a great meal for the whole family!"
"Pretty good lunch special deals can be found here. If possible, make sure you order ahead of time as it can get pretty hectic around lunch time. The rolls are good and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered from here, so would recommend for a quick and good eat in the area. I've never dined in here, but the dining area looks decent and clean - a good number of seats."
"Quick easy yummy lobster roll! Wish it would have been warm but they don't do that here. Good amount of lobster. Very small amount of outdoor seating"
"Wanted to give a shoutout to my former neighborhood spot, as I've since moved, and I saw that this place had poor reviews for some inexplicable reason. I have eaten from this place countless times. Do they do a suspicious variety of various Asian ethnic cuisines? Yes. It's a little weird to be able to get Thai, Chinese, and Japanese from one restaurant. Is it a cheap neighborhood option? You bet your wallet. You can't beat these prices. It may not be the most freshest, pinkest salmon you've ever eaten, but if you wanted that, you'd haul your butt to Sugarfish in Manhattan. Lunch special prices are incredible. I can't speak to the Thai food (see below), but the sushi is great and the teriyaki bento boxes are a good deal. I have never had problems with fish quality in terms of getting sick, which I can't say for every neighborhood place. However, the real hidden gem of this restaurant is their Thai tea. It's real thai tea made with condensed milk and spices, and you can get a relatively large cup of it with no ice for $3.50. I have never seen this cheaper than $6 in a Manhattan restaurant, and most of the time it has ice in it, so there's even less than what you would get here. The interior is not pretty, but I've also never seen anyone eat there. I think the neighborhood and the restaurant both have accepted this place makes food just for pickup or delivery, not dine-in. And that's okay! But if you choose to eat here in person, don't hold it against them. They're on nearly every delivery platform, but I think their preferred method is through their website: sushitatsubrooklyn.com."
"Great lunch option in the Hudson Yards area. Sushi rolls - salmon avocado, tuna avocado, spicy salmon, eel, and shrimp tempura were all delicious. Vegetarian miso ramen was comforting and tasty.Vegetable gyoza (steamed) were flavorful. Kani Salad - first time having this and I really enjoyed the refreshing flavors with shredded cucumbers."
"Ootoya, part of a global chain, is a good choice for a well made and decently priced Japanese meal in the Times Square area. The staff is attentive and the vibe is calm and relaxing, which is a nice respite from the craziness in the area. This restaurant can get pretty crowded at times on weekends and during dinner hours. There are plenty of options on the menu, from teishoku sets, salads, hot pot, sushi bowls, sushi bowls, rice bowls and noodles. The menu has changed over the years but the food has remained pretty good. The dishes come in sets, with the diner able to make many choices for their set.I've been here (and the Chelsea location) for lunch and dinner and it's always been good. The staff is very well versed in taking care of its guests and folks don't linger too long after they are done eating. There is seating at the bar and at individual tables. Prices are reasonable."
"Congratulations to Chef Eiji Ichimura san, a legendary chef known for Edomae style sushi, and Kuma Hospitality Group (also owns L'Abeille next door) on their new restaurant. The restaurant interior is stunning with the beautiful, large gold-leaf covered ancient Japanese screen painting. Admirer of his omakase since his days at Michelin 2 * Ichimura at Brushstroke and Uchu. Also, I was able to go to his pop-up dinners at L'Abeille before this opening, and his renewed enthusiasm and creativity were quite noticeable.Over the years, I've been fortunate to have dined at other outstanding sushi omakase restaurants, new and old, but, for me, Ichimura san's omakase still stands out as 'the best of the best'.Wonderful service.Highest recommendation. Will be going again soon.: 10 omakase"
"We made a reservation and got there just in time for our 7PM. The decor was pretty modern with an actual decent amount of seating. We went on a random Wednesday night so it wasn't busy and some seats were as really empty! We both chose the $75 option as it seemed a great bang for your buck. The food was made rapidly, which is great in my opinion. The only note was I may have had expectations due to some reviews and pictures I've seen online. I thought most of the pieces were fine, but not amazing. Their choice to add sauce on almost every piece along with either a variation of truffle or condiments somewhat detracted from the actual taste of the pieces itself. I will say the staff and service were great! The chefs were friendly and our hostess attentive. Even though the pieces were fine, they're still no frills and you can expect them to be good."
"Incredibly fresh and plentiful food! A must-try for anyone visiting or local. Let's dive in ...Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll (5/5): Wow! That yellowtail tastes like it www caught today, while the jalapeño is kindly deveined and deseeded yet incredibly juicy and crunchy. This roll, as with the others, is well packed in a bountiful and yet organized way. Spicy White Tuna Roll (5/5): Holy macaroni. This is the best spicy/crunchy roll of any sushi joint I've tried in the city. The tuna is ultra fresh and the spicy crunchy tempura part is actually really crunchy and not soggy like most places do; and it's flavorful nature was genuinely not expected and I'm the opposite of disappointed. Alaska Mak (5/5): This large 5-piece roll really threw me off at first glance but checked all the boxes and then some. The cucumber crunches, the avocado is creamy, the salmon fresh as can be. Salmon Skin Salad (4/5): There is an abundance of salmon skin in this salad. The rest is mostly lettuce and a sprinkle of shaved carrot and cucumber pieces. Would have been nice for more veg other than the lettuce. But let me tell you how good the dressing is -- it's a carrot gingery burst of flavor I wouldn't trade for anything and they give you two containers generously. Edamame (4/5): Well cooked but no salt so this the minus one. Vegetable Miso Soup (3/5): The blend of vegetables here was fine and the broth is nothing to write home about. Mostly lettuce (why?), some broccoli and carrot plus tofu chunks. Spinach and Tofu Soup (4/5): This soup is exactly what it promises to be. The clear broth is tasty but plain -- which I guess this should be. The spinach and tofu are exactly what you would expect. Checks the box. TL;DR: While this place doesn't have soups or edamame I would rave over, the rolls and fish (in the rolls and salad) are my new all time favorites in NY. 100% on the repeat list."
"How much do I love you, Sugarfish? To NYC and back! I never miss a trip to Sugarfish when I visit NYC. It's not often, so I really savor it when I'm here. The sushi here is just superb. Literally the best I've ever had, every time I eat here. I have never had a bad meal here. The fish melts in your mouth. I don't know how they do it. The pieces are perfectly cut into a single bite size. I find a lot of other nigiri at other restaurants are way too big for one bite. Not here. Each piece of fish is lovingly cut and crafted to make an amazing bite. Just trust them and go with the "Trust Me" menu. Every course has a different flavor combination from the tuna sashimi with ponzu and chives to the Japanese yellowtail with lemon. The fish is so fresh and never fishy or tough. Delicious! The rice is especially good as well. The rice is warm on the bottom and the fish is cold on top. Amazing combination. I wish I could teleport to NYC tonight for dinner!!!"
"This is the absolute best omakase I've ever had in the US, YES surpassing Sushi Kashiba in Seattle! I just got back from a trip to Japan ~2 months ago and this place definitely feels like an authentic Japanese sushi spot. Chef Ryan was an absolute DELIGHT. For the price, this place is an absolute STEAL. Top quality fresh fish, impeccably seasoned and prepared. I had to ask my friend "are you sure this is only $89 per person"? Only downside is if you dined with a taller / bigger person / male they'll probably be hungry afterwards with their standard ~15 pieces, but they can always order more! But as a petite 5'2'' asian woman, the serving size was perfect for me! Love, love, love this spot! I plan on coming back here every time I go to NYC a few times a year for work!"
"Super cozy and delicious food! We got a table in their backyard area, but it had heaters and was still pretty warm, though I sat by the door which kept opening, so it was cold. We went on a 28 degree day, and got the first hotpot option with their signature soup, and felt great in the cold weather. We also got the salmon and signature roll. Both were solid. We got athe asahi beer and Yuzu sake as well. The sake tasted like juice and was pretty sweet. Service was also pretty good, they served our first bowl of soup. The soup was a little salty though, so definitely get rice with it!I will say this meal ended up being $70/person, which is quiteeee pricey"
"Food was good, service was good, they want you to order the chirashi and omakase ahead of time. So unless you plan ahead, you're in for a 20 minute wait with no place to sit."
"Unfortunately was a while back so can't remember what we ordered. We got some handrolls, the chef's special, and 2 cocktails. We came on a Tuesday night and it was not busy at all, a bit of a crowd but nothing crazy and a great time to go to catch up with friends or a first date! Everything we ordered was delicious and that toro with caviar????? So good"
"This place has 5 stars for a reason!! Amazing and friendly service, delicious food, beautiful preparation & presentation, and clean, beautiful restaurant. Our server Yuki was so immaculate and knowledgeable of the menu, what was being served, and what could pair well with menu items. She was also very personable and moved us along with our courses well as it was our first time.Overall, would love to come here again for a date night with my husband! I can see why this place is rated so highly!"
"This is my first time at this particular location in the city but I can confidently say that Kazunori never disappoints because I know exactly what to expect every time I visit. The food is consistently great across all locations, with fresh, high-quality seafood that's always a hit. I appreciate that there's no reservation system so it's first come, first served, which makes the experience feel more laid-back and easygoing.Whether you're in the mood for their signature hand rolls or something else on the menu, you can always count on a satisfying meal. A reliable spot that delivers every time!"
"Extremely underrated place to dine (in person).Fast service, fantastic fresh fish at a great value.High quality service.Mostly I order the fish but everything else I've had is great from the edamame to the miso eggplant or the tofu dishes. New York knows this place rocks, you'll see a pound of fish going out the door on delivery bikes every 10 minutes. But getting to sit in and eat it truly fresh is a great experience."
"Oh man this place was SO GOOD! The Miyazaki beef (above the wagyu) was the most tender beef we've ever eaten...and dipped in the raw egg was just pure perfection! Our waiter cooked and served our first couple of slices of the beef for us and then we were on our own the rest of the meal, but we were well taken care of. The size and spacing of the tables is a bit tight, but they do offer storage bins below your chair to save on space for coats/purses. Highly recommend this for an upscale dinner!!"
"This restaurant is sooooo amazing.A warm welcome and chill environment. the chef is calm and friendly. I enjoy and love the food so much. O toro with cavirar and yuzu sake is my favorite one. They have a little gift for our anniversary so It's a perfect spot to celebrate anniversary."
"Very chic minimalist concept serving excellent temaki with an impressive following.Tables are difficult to get but there is worth trying. Enjoy good quality with excellent execution and attention to detail.Happy New Year!!"
"My first impression: Decent, but not my favorite. Sushi was slightly smaller compared to other sushi places that are selling similar sushi sets/prices. There was more rice than fish.I would give it another try but a different set (wasn't a fan of the toro taku roll)."
"Shinn East is an absolute gem for sushi lovers! Their omakase is only $69, and it's honestly such a steal for the quality you get. The fish is incredibly fresh, high-quality, and prepared with such attention to detail--it's clear the chefs know their craft.Every bite was a delight, from the perfectly seasoned rice to the melt-in-your-mouth fish. For the price, it feels like a luxurious experience without breaking the bank.5/5, hands down--would highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-tier omakase experience at an unbeatable value! Nice ambiance and friendly service, too!"
