"I've had the pleasure of sitting for many Omakase experiences but this one is in the top two. I discovered this place walking down the street while shopping for some earrings and the diamond District. The outside looked a little funky, so I decided to look up the spot and see what it was all about. After checking out the stellar reviews, I decided to make a reservation for one to treat myself for my birthday.Made a same day reservation, paid my deposit and I was in there! Got there a little early and was immediately drawn in by the 90's and early 2000's hip-hop coming through the speakers outside. Once inside from the frigid NYC air, I was greeted by "The Jasons", took off my jacket and had a seat. Jason #1 came behind the bar so I asked him to make me a drink, Mixologist's choice. He made me an incredible rum based drink with passionfruit and a special liqueur. So good, i ordered another (maybe two). The 7 pm seating was taking a little longer than anticipated so I was offered a welcome shot of house made sake and chatted up Jason #1 about how much my city has changed. Song after song was a hit and took me back to my Bronx days. Once sat, I was taken care of by the amazing Obrey, the Omakase Chef, and we chatted the whole night in Spanglish. I did the 12-course Omakase and here are a few standouts:Salmon roe was so sweet and briny (ended up ordering an extra) Chopped tuna - seriously wow (yup, extra of this one too)The scallop was so soft and tender and the wasabi is strong but not overpowering The toro will blow your mind. The truffle shavings are the perfect touch. (Yup- twice on this one too)Bbq eel - was warm almost hot, sweet and savory- just wowwI cannot say enough good things about this dinner. Delish, good convo, company, music was BANGIN!' (Thanks Jason G.) and I left there feeling full and lighthearted. I def plan to go to the one in DC to scope out the scene and hopefully order the uni next!"
"Delicious and cheap for happy hour. Got salmon avocado, shrimp tempura, and eel cucumber sushi and miso soup! Will come back."

"Very chic minimalist concept serving excellent temaki with an impressive following.Tables are difficult to get but there is worth trying. Enjoy good quality with excellent execution and attention to detail.Happy New Year!!"
"Perfect date night spot!! Hi-Collar is exactly like what I've seen million times in japanese drama. They serve western-influenced dishes (yoshoku) like omurice, hamburg steak and spaghetti. It is a brunch cafe at daytime, and transforms into a charming sake bar at night. We walked in before 6 on a Saturday night and were seated at the bar table. The warm lighting, retro and wooden furnishings really gave Haruki Murakami's novel vibes. *Napolitan Spaghetti $20If you watched the Netflex series "First Love", you should have heard of Napolitan spaghetti. The ingredients are very simple: ketchup, sausage, green pepper, onion and grated cheese. They presented it on a sizzling pan and put an omelette at the bottom. The sauce was sweet and I loved the veggies. Very homey and delicious. *Hayashi Omurice $29Hayashi is a western style beef stew cooked in a demi-glace sauce. It tasted like a blend of red wine and tomato paste. We cut the omelette and revealed the silky scrambled egg. It was served with a good amount of sliced wagyu beef, mushrooms and onions. Totally got the hype of their iconic omurice. Many reviews complained their portion size didn't match their steep price. My bf and I both thought their dishes were decently portioned and filling, given my bf usually eats a lot lol. Their lunch menu is cheaper but maybe the portion is different?"
"It's probably insane that I hadn't been to Momoya yet when I'm always nearby. I always think I assumed they were ultra expensive. But they do almost every night have a line wrapped around out the door. Interestingly enough, they do have a very affordable lunch special every day where almost everything on a select menu is between $20-30. I've been twice so far and the food is super fresh. Like some of the freshest sushi I've ever had in my life. The service is truly impeccable and they're always super friendly. I ended up getting both times the 3 sushi roll for $20 deal. It's hard to pick a favorite. It's like picking your favorite child. But I really enjoyed the Yellowtail and the salmon avocado. They also give you a generous sized bowl of miso soup with it or the option of turning that into a salad. Highly recommend and will definitely be back."
"Headed to Soba Totto with some coworkers since it was near our office. We saw so many Japanese businessmen in suits in the private booths, you know it's legit when they're all coming here to eat.Anyway for apps, we ordered the grilled salmon (salmon yuan yaki) and tako wasa (raw octopus with wasabi). Both were excellent starters. For mains, we got the sukiyaki and the kamo (duck) nanban. The broth for the sukiyaki was delicious! The cold soba was fresh, the poached egg was runny, and I also added on a piece of shrimp tempura, which was the right amount of shrimp to batter ratio for the perfect crunchy bite.My friend enjoyed the nanban, but we both agreed the sukiyaki was the way to go since it came with beef, mushrooms and poached egg, along with the entire presentation of it all.I'd come back to try some other items on the menu."
"i liked the vibes and it was surprisingly no wait for lunch on saturday, cash only. the rice is a little bit mushy imo but the udon texture is goodambiance is small and cozy"
"EnvironmentThe lighting is bright and warm, and I sat at a table with my friends. It is very private, the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and the sense of relaxation is perfect.DishesThe performance of the tart base appetizers is quite amazing, with rich and varied seasoning. The carbohydrate part of Uni Waffle has a more chewy and elastic taste, but I personally prefer the crispy and crispy bread base. The combination of pigeon and goose liver is just right, complementing each other. Some dishes are a bit salty. Judging from the current two-star level, the overall performance is satisfactory, with no merits or faults. Worth a try"
"Rule of Thirds is such a unique gem! These are the kind of dishes you won't find on every menu (even other Japanese menus). We came here for brunch and had the nicest server who really made our experience. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The hot honey gem salad was so tasty and refreshing. It is a very generous portion, so we weren't able to finish, but honestly, we still loved it. The hot honey is very subtle but the overall flavor is delicious. We also got the chicken katsu sando and we loved the chicken itself, which was perfectly fried. One of the standouts for us was the smashed potato. This had an incredible, rich flavor and was a very balanced dish. I'm not a big mushroom fan, so I was a bit apprehensive about this, and it really blew me away. We also loved the hottekoki- every table orders this and you can see why! It is lightly sweet and the honey maple butter adds great flavor. Highly recommend adding the optional soft serve, which is a little mini portion of the white sesame soft serve that comes on the side (and is also dairy free!). The cocktails were also quite unique- both of the ones we tried had a very herbal profile. You might not enjoy these as much if you tend to like sweet cocktails, but we enjoyed trying them. The one complaint we had was that the utensils you're provided make it really hard to eat everything. For example, the gem salad was delicious, but the leaves and radishes were huge and we were only provided chopsticks, so it was difficult to actually eat bites of the salad. The katsu sando had a large schmear of mustard on the side, but we didn't have anything we could use to put the mustard on the sando. The wooden spoons that came with the hottokeki were also kind of impractical- they were fine to use to scoop out pieces of the pancake but hard to actually eat with. We really enjoyed our experience here and would gladly come back!"
"My husband and I were seated in a quiet alcove. The decor included a wall with letters. we amused ourselves by finding words with connecting letters. We were enjoying restaurant week.My husband ordered the salmon with avocado sushi. Great flavor. I had the hamachi shishito sushi. This was also very good.I had the waygu beef sukiyaki. The udons were super tender. My broth was full of 2 kinds of mushrooms, cabbage, and beef. The broth was super flavorful. It was a very generous portion. The spicy eggplant that my husband ordered had the right amount of heat for him. There was lots of bok choy, eggplant, and peppers."
"We came here to celebrate Father's Day. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The place is located at the corner of the street with beautiful outside seating. We sat inside for our meal. They had a number for specials on their menu. We tried the tempura fresh water eel. It was delicious. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. We also had this miso fish. It was not fishy at all. I loved the fried lotus roots on the dish as well. It was a great meal for the whole family!"
"Went here before going to a musical with son and sister. Amazing sushi. We were bout 15 min early but they were able to siit us in a quiet booth. I had sashimi and sister had sushi special. Both were cuts chosen by chef, the boy had yakatori and some steamed dumplings and he loved it. Mine was fantastic and sisters even better. I was given 4 different fish cut not too thin which i like. All very fresh and flavorful. Sisters nagiri was specially prepared and they took her soy sauce away saying it was already marinated. Hers had some toppings such as tofu foam or idk what but looked amazing and she loved it. We cant wait to go back."

First of all, I loved my first experience at Sushi by Bou at the NOMAD location, so immediately had to come back when I saw they had a BOGO offer. I made reservations for a weeknight at 8pm. Because the omakase is timed, be sure to arrive early or on time as they already started the first round when we arrived 2 minutes after 8pm.Even though we were slightly late, we caught up as they were placing each nigiri after each other. Our entire meal was only 30 minutes, which felt a bit rushed when dining with someone else. My previous experience was an hour, so that felt better paced. I'm not really sure when it's half an hour and when it's one hour. If you do a 30 minute dining, I'd suggest just coming by yourself for a quick meal.Overall, the speed of this experience just kind of threw me off. But the omakase itself is delicious and such a great value for $70, which include uni. I definitely prefer the NOMAD location because you get a free sake with Yelp check-in too.

Great place! I really enjoyed my dinner with friends here. We tried the vegan hand roll set, as well as the truffle mushroom hand roll, mushroom dip, and furikake fries. The whole meal was good, had fresh ingredients, and felt unique. I'd definitely come back. My friends who ordered meat hand rolls were pleased with their selections as well! The vibe inside is quite cute and they also have some outdoor seating. Would recommend getting a reservation as this place seems very popular.I was a bit disappointed with our table as our light went out and our waiter was not the most welcoming to clarifications regarding plant based options. Often, they would just double check with the kitchen or chef when unsure but I didn't quite appreciate how my friend was brushed off for her question.

Ambiance was 10/10! I loved the homey decorations and the beautiful skylight in the middle of the room. I went here for a galentines and it was wonderful. The food itself was very good: I liked the spaghetti the best, I thought the omelette could be more flavorful. The cake was sooo beautiful and I loved all the details on it. It wasn't too sweet and it was a nice treat to end the meal. I loveddd the teas and the cups it came with. Such unique flavors; sweet Berry had a hint of caramel which I loved. We were given an hour time limit which made us rush a bit so I wish the time limit could be extended. I also wish we were given utensils for each dish so we wouldn't have to use our own to scoop. I also wish our plates were bigger! Was a bit of a mess to mix all the food together.

Momoya chelsea is one of my favorites! I prefer this location over the Soho one because it's nicer. Pros:-large menu-affordable (as in, in line with other sushi places)-delicious -great service - lots of water refills!- food comes out as it's ready-feels fancier than it is because they dim the lights at a certain point & it's overall a nice aesthetic cons:-tables are close to each other so it can be a little loud

We went to Soba Totto for restaurant week dinner, and for $45, you get an appetizer, your choice of a second course, and a main dish. Some items were pretty solid, and others somewhat forgettable. The agedashi tofu had good flavor, but by the time it arrived, the breading was too soggy and chewy. The tempura was a bit too oily. The yakitori, however, was pretty good. Simple flavor but it let the quality of the ingredients shine. Although the appetizers were nothing special, the main dishes were tasty. My boyfriend got the chicken oyako don, and he loved how the flavors and textures blended together. I got the salmon ikura don, and the salmon sashimi was very fresh and the thickness of the cuts were perfect. The restaurant itself is very spacious and cozy, making it a pleasant dining experience.

3.5We are not into Udon but my family was ok with the other items on the menu. Small place - bar style seating upon entering, with a view of the kitchen which looked very clean. 3-4 small tables in the rear. Looks updated. Service is very attentive. Clean restroom available. No fuss type of food. Negi toro rice bowl was simple, not much toppings, better with some soy sauce and wasabi. Hamburg can be in a combo but got it as an appetizer; patty's small but tasty. Takoyaki was good, creamy center. Squid tempura in rice bowl was a bit soggy though I liked the flavor. A good place for quick, cheap eats.

"Fantastic spot. I first learned about Okonomi when walking around the neighborhood and stopping inside to ask about the place. You must get a reservation well in advance, as the restaurant only seats a few tables at a time!! The menu changes but some items remain the same throughout the year. The tunakotsu was a first for me, as I have never had fish-based ramen. The texture of the tuna was almost identical to chasu pork, and I was also impressed with the flavor of the broth. I will definitely be back, as the experience at Okonomi was incredibly comforting."
"I was recently craving Japanese food, but I wasn't sure if I wanted ramen, or udon, or sushi, or something else. Good thing Samurai Mama has all of those and more! This cozy restaurant has a combination of communal seating, booths, and regular tables. I ordered:* uni "tacos"* seafood miso soup* agedashi tofuThe uni "tacos" were kind of like a nigiri atop a piece of seaweed. Each order comes with two tacos. Great way to start the meal. The seafood miso soup was delicious - it was a spicy broth with everything you would expect in a miso soup, plus veggies, mussels, scallops, and shrimp! Yum! I loved this soup. The agedashi tofu came in a perfectly sized portion (six well-sized pieces) in a bowl of flavorful broth. I definitely want to come back to try the donburi and the udon. Samurai Mama is a solid choice!"
"Service was fabulous & food was very good. We had shrimp, pork, chicken breast, chicken thighs, & vegetables. Other than the meat, limited gluten free options. There is no gluten free salad dressing & no tamari soy sauce. All sauces are not gluten free as well."
"Super cozy and delicious food! We got a table in their backyard area, but it had heaters and was still pretty warm, though I sat by the door which kept opening, so it was cold. We went on a 28 degree day, and got the first hotpot option with their signature soup, and felt great in the cold weather. We also got the salmon and signature roll. Both were solid. We got athe asahi beer and Yuzu sake as well. The sake tasted like juice and was pretty sweet. Service was also pretty good, they served our first bowl of soup. The soup was a little salty though, so definitely get rice with it!I will say this meal ended up being $70/person, which is quiteeee pricey"
"Fantastic experience. I was in town for meetings and got in on a late flight. Looked up any sushi spot near my hotel and came across Kaoru. Staff was Japanese and polite (I was too shy to practice my Japanese but I bet I could have.) I got the unagi don - eel over rice, and it was incredible. Also got the Toro sashimi - so fresh. And a Hibiki highball - absolute perfection. No notes."
"two combined buildings so don't get confused ! made this mistake & accidentally waited to long for food oops ! but it's a really cool place, as you can watch the chef make these masterpieces at the bar, or sit & wait patiently. very calm & relaxing, & i loved the touch of anime, kpop, & jpop music !i got the cream cheese & strawberry toast, which, mind the photo because it does not capture its glory. i sadly had to carry it through the heatwave & it melted on the way home: but it was SPECTACULAR nonetheless ! would love to try fresh one day. the bread was nice & squishy, fresh tasting, & the mix of sweet of the strawberry jam & the savory of the cream cheese was amazing.i hope to come back to try this again, along with their other savory & sweet toasts !"
"An AYCE and drink sushi place should theoretically be a decrepit pit or a food safety hazard waiting to happen, and this was neither. For $50 before tax and tip you can choose wine, beer, sake, or sangria and order from a very wide menu of appetizers, rolls, etc. Ordering is done through an iPad and service is quick. Most items came out within a few minutes at most. There are a couple of categories where each person can only order one item, but I didn't find this limiting at all. The sushi isn't great by any means, but it certainly stands up against the other basic placed in nyc, so you can really get your money's worth if you drink and take advantage of the special rolls.Would absolutely return! Very fun!"
"Had dinner here for the first time upon the recommendation of a relative. We had a wonderful experience - from every single dish we ordered, to the tremendous, attentive service, to the delightful ambiance - this place is a must try if you love Japanese cuisine. Highlights: absolutely amazing brussel sprouts, a uniquely savory warm mushroom salad, super unique corn truffle gyoza, and salmon crunch roll. Save room for the Black Sesame Ice cream with a side of red bean paste. Fantastic! Reservations highly recommended as it was jam packed (also another sign of how good they are). We'll be back!"
"My friend and I stumbled across this restaurant on a Saturday night when we were wandering around trying to find a place for a late-ish dinner.Everything was delicious! We started with the Brussel Sprouts, which were incredibly flavourful. My friend had the Pork Katsu and said it was hearty and tender. I had the Hiyashi Udon set, which came with a handroll (spicy yellowtail) and a cabbage salad. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a cold udon, but it worked thanks to the broth combined with scallions, tempura flakes and lemon to bring out all the flavours. The panna cotta made for a light, sweet finish."
"Delicious!!! Made reservations here on a Friday night with 2 other friends and got a seat inside at the bar. I ordered the 12 course omakase and a Bigmac. A 30 minute omakase experience?! I'm in. I really enjoyed all of the fish. It tasted super fresh and it's always cool watching the chefs work their magic at the sushi bar. I'm docking a star because this location feels a little claustrophobic inside and they don't serve cocktails. I'd not recommend eating here with a group larger than 4. That said, their outdoor booths are a nice alternative and their other locations serve drinks. If this were as expensive as some other omakase alternatives, I would probably only give Sushi on Jones 4 stars, but for affordable this place is I definitely think the quality is worth leaving 5. The Big Mac is an a la crate sushi with Wagyu, toro, and uni. Heaven in a bite! I'd recommend!"
"Great space, great food. If looking for the lunch set, you have to come early as they sell out quick. However, their other options are just as delicious. I decided to go with the Daiginjo Bara Chirashi and it was delicious! So much fish and variety on top of well seasoned sushi rice. I really liked the dish. Their fish was super fresh tasting and it was filling. The service was super attentive.Just a heads up, they will seat you for lunch if your party is not complete but you cannot order their lunch set ahead of time if you are ordering the limited sets. You can order for yourself but not for the person you are still waiting for. Still worth it."
"Great lunch option by my office! Fresh ingredients and affordable. I get the 3 roll special."
"A first time dining experience at Hama met my expectations and then some. Conveniently located near Radio City Music Hall and 50th Street train station, we dropped by after seeing a Broadway matinee. The restaurant is one flight downstairs from street level. You can easily walk by on the block and miss it. Staff was very welcoming and decor was elegant and cozy.Started off with green tea served to us in the cutest tea pot set (with endless refills) as the server took our appetizer order. Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura was a must. We selected a hot sake (for me) and beer to accompany the appetizer. When the Tempura arrived, it was arranged attractively and was delicious. Two jumbo shrimp included along with vegetables made it the perfect starter and definitely shareable. For main, we chose two Maki rolls each and a third for sharing.I selected Spicy Tuna and a selection from the lunch menu--Salmon Yuzu (for $2 extra, can be served at dinner). The Snow Crab Avocado Roll was the signature roll for sharing.Opinion? Each roll was ocean fresh and excellent. The roll pieces remained intact and was flavorful. I especially enjoyed the Salmon which had a rice cracker crunch integrated in the roll.Happy Hour specials for food and drink takes place during the week which I'd like to check out in the future. I highly recommend Hama. 5/5 satisfaction rating for food, atmosphere and customer service. Go!"
"Shinn East is an absolute gem for sushi lovers! Their omakase is only $69, and it's honestly such a steal for the quality you get. The fish is incredibly fresh, high-quality, and prepared with such attention to detail--it's clear the chefs know their craft.Every bite was a delight, from the perfectly seasoned rice to the melt-in-your-mouth fish. For the price, it feels like a luxurious experience without breaking the bank.5/5, hands down--would highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-tier omakase experience at an unbeatable value! Nice ambiance and friendly service, too!"
"Moved into the neighborhood few months ago and we're looking for a regular sushi spot. Geido's window display looked cool/ like it was a good restaurant so we went for the first time 2 weeks ago and I went again last week because I liked it so much. Its been opened since 1985 !!! The restaurant is a homey joint with graffiti on the walls, people go here for their weekday dinners and patrons have been coming for years ( our landlord for the last 15 years)! The sake prices are reasonable. The rolls are fire . I eat a lot of sushi and have been scarred by a lot of cheap sushi places.Geidos rolls are reasonably priced, service is quick and attentive and food is fresh and delicious. Our favorite rolls are the amazonas ( so many crunchies you will be super full) and the spicy scallop. Standard rolls that are pretty fire are - eel and avo, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. Try their California roll which has tobiko in it which was BOMB !!!!"
"Super fresh fish. I am impressed by this place. The prices are super reasonable as well. I got a $27 entree that came with 5 pieces of assorted sushi and 2 rolls. The salmon and avocado roll was a standout, although everything was delicious. The service was excellent -- very friendly and attentive waiters. And the ambiance was so cozy and intimate... just what we needed after a long day exploring the city!"
"For an excellent and reasonably priced omakase experience in New York, Sushi by Bou stands out! It was my first and definitely won't be my last. They provide a stylish, intimate setting, and highest quality sushi tasting that was delicious and new to me. The chef was hilarious with quick remarks and sense of humor. He provided a memorable show as he prepared each piece of sushi. Waitress was very helpful with selecting the right sake for the tasting (wish I remembered the name) making it a great dining experience. The omakase menu is robust and not overly complicated. Be sure to check the specials on the wall. Price brought me in as it's reasonable to get started before heading to the more expensive options around the city. I would definitely go again!"
"How much do I love you, Sugarfish? To NYC and back! I never miss a trip to Sugarfish when I visit NYC. It's not often, so I really savor it when I'm here. The sushi here is just superb. Literally the best I've ever had, every time I eat here. I have never had a bad meal here. The fish melts in your mouth. I don't know how they do it. The pieces are perfectly cut into a single bite size. I find a lot of other nigiri at other restaurants are way too big for one bite. Not here. Each piece of fish is lovingly cut and crafted to make an amazing bite. Just trust them and go with the "Trust Me" menu. Every course has a different flavor combination from the tuna sashimi with ponzu and chives to the Japanese yellowtail with lemon. The fish is so fresh and never fishy or tough. Delicious! The rice is especially good as well. The rice is warm on the bottom and the fish is cold on top. Amazing combination. I wish I could teleport to NYC tonight for dinner!!!"
"On a Saturday night, we were caught in a nasty traffic snarl on 10th Ave and was an hour late for our 6:30 reservation. One of our party had made it there on time and the gracious host was very nice and sat him at a table a 1/2 hour before we arrived. Luckily, it wasn't extremely busy, just your normal Saturday night. Donburiya is very conveniently located just north of the theater district and just 3 blocks from Carnegie Hall, so is perfect for pre-theater dinner or drinks. It's a very cozy izakaya just a few steps down from street level. If the wait for a table is long, you can opt for a couple of seats at the bar. When we finally arrived, it took us a few minutes to absorb and digest the entirety of the large menu. We started with the Shio cabbage salad and a whole grilled squid. For entrees, my son went with the Sukiyaki Don Set with sliced beef and poached egg & tofu over rice and a miso soup. His friend got the Ishiyaki Beef Curry Udon, which came in a super-hot stone bowl with the broth violently boiling. You can't touch that for a good 10 minutes for it to cool down. My wife went with the Goya Champie, Bitter Melon & Pork topped with a big omelet. For me, it was the Tonkatsu Teppan Yaki Set with a little of everything including a romaine salad topped with potato salad, miso soup, oshinko, rice bowl and Kurobuta pork katsu. The pork cutlet was panko coated, fried to crispy perfection and served over raw cabbage that cooked in the hot mini cast iron skillet right on the table. After I finished and they took away the tray, the table was still hot underneath. We finished in plenty of time for curtain call at Carnegie Hall. I can't wait to come back to relax with a cold Sapporo draft and a non-stop order of fried oysters and karaage."
"This place is very nondescript and you can easily walk by without noticing it's a short flight down the stairs. The decor is very simple, there is seating at sushi counter and a couple of tables. We came in around 9pm, when things were winding down so it was not very busy. We went with the omakasi special. The food came out pretty quickly, we started out with some soba noodles in a delicious peanut sauce. The sashimi was very fresh and the fish sizes were quite generous. My favorites were the sea urchin, fatty tuna and shrimp, but really all of the seafood was good. My friend who is Japanese pointed out that the staff here is not Japanese. Although the seafood was great, it was not as aesthetically pleasing due to the long uneven style cut of the fish. The rice was also not as great as you would find in a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant. The service was good and the price was great for the quality and quantity of what we ate."
"Food: 5Value: 4Service: 5Overall: 4.75+Sushi 35 is a almost hole in the wall-ish sushi counter that has some of the best takeout sushi in the city. I got the Sushi & Sashimi Regular for $40 - not cheap by any means, but the fish tastes super fresh and better than any other sushi I've had in NYC for the same price (considering any omakase is 2-3x the price)"
"This is a great Asian-Vietnamese fusion restaurant with awesome staff. Highly recommended for sushi, entries, and drinks. Very comfortable seating & great service.Came in for a weekend show (Hades Town is across the street) and the reviews were great. The An'nam restaurant is equal in quality. Started with the Red Dragon sushi roll, and was it GOOD! We had appletinis from the full bar, and they were great too! I had the beef chow fun, which was perfection. Wife had cashew chicken, which I tried, and was very good. Teen got a bento box, and it was amazing! Shrimp Teriyaki, chicken karage, fried Shrimp shumai and a california roll with white rice. I could have eaten two full orders of shrimp fried dumpling/shumai alone! It was just that awesome!!!We also wanted a side of pan fried sugar snap peas, and a whole order came- but they were fabulous!!! We kept them, snd it was worth it. Servers were all nice & helpful, and we felt appreciated. The decor was nice, and it was fairly quiet. So low noise.Definitely want to go back again! This is a keeper, and in my top twenty restaurants of all time. YOU SHOULD GO!"
"I've been meaning to check out their Japanese and Peruvian flavors and was super looking forward to this reservation! While there were minor aspects that fell short of my expectation, I enjoy the flavors very much and overall had a wonderful time here! Apps: My partner and I opted for a 3-course prix fixe (4-course available as well with an additional dessert option) and started off with the scallops and maitake. As big fans of mushrooms, we loved the crispy maitake pieces - the mushrooms were tender and juicy while the outer batter was just enough to get a good crunch without being too heavy. The tofu dip served as a nice cold and creamy contrast to the mushroom. The scallops were also good and tender, but felt like the parmesan stole the spotlight. Small dishes: The razor clams ceviche were delicious and definitely a highlight for me!! They were very fresh and tender. The yuzu kosho added a nice citrus tangy that balanced out the creamy sauce. The seaweed was light and crunchy, and thus served as a perfect vehicle for the clams and sauce! The wagyu carpaccio was another memorable dish! Never would I thought the meat, fish, and cheese flavors could blend like this?! If you like umami, this is for sure the dish for you! The wagyu slices were hidden under a layer of cheese foam amongst fried capers and eel pieces. My only wish was that the waygu was sliced more thinly so it would be more chewy. Entrees: the pork tonkatsu was very tasty! The meat was very tender with a crunchy outer layer. The sauce was much sweeter and less tangy, which I preferred. The udon verde packed a lot of pesto-like flavors in a homogenous sauce. Only wish that the udon wasn't overcooked because it was a little too chewy. Lastly, the rock shrimp and uni rice resembled more of a jambalaya than fried rice. Felt like the sauce in the rice overshadowed the shrimp and fresh uni. I nevertheless enjoyed the shredded shiso and seaweed on top. Drinks: La Mala Muerte offers a slightly bitter, yet very refreshing chamomile aftertaste. Their pina colada is like a clarified pina colada milk punch but I loved how the pineapple taste was much more forward than the traditional drink. The Lucid Dream was a little too strong for me with the green tea shochu. Staff were super nice and helpful in explaining the menu/recommending dishes. The cutlery/utensil switch was also done politely at a good timing. The ambience is fantastic for an intimate date night or a celebratory meal. The minimalist interior design and the dim lighting make its cozy and trendy. It wasn't quite a slam-dunk 5 star for me but still delicious and worth recommending!"
