Brown Bag Sandwich Co. is a new entrant in the highly competitive sandwich scene in New York City, and they've made quite the splash, with lines out the door not an uncommon sight prior to opening. Brown Bag takes a novel approach to the sandwich and borrows from the New York City staple of chopped salads by chopping all the fillings in their sandwiches before putting them in the bread. Italian? Chopped. BLAT? Chopped. Cuban? Chopped. Chopped cheese? Buddy you better believe that it's chopped. The store itself is located on the west side of the Village and is a tight space. Upon entry you can see the grill and sandwich assembly stations, with the cash register on the right. It has a distinctly vintage feel, with an old-school take a number dispenser, an old coffee machine, and classic Coca Cola signs with the menu hanging above, as well as stickers all over. There are a couple of counters with barstools, though most people will take their sandwiches to go (conveniently, Washington Square Park is nearby if you would like to make your meal into a picnic). The menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, available on a hero, roll or in a wrap, as well as a few mayo based salads and a collection of chips/pretzels available by the register. The most popular sandwich, and the inspiration for the style of sandwich they make, is the Chopped Cheese, which sells out very quickly, as only a few dozen are made daily (this is why there are often lines upon opening). Of course, it is delicious. Perhaps my favorite option is the Italian, which incorporates fresh mozzarella and maximum flavor in each and every bite thanks to the chopped ingredients inside. The bread itself is very good as well, as is necessary for any good sandwich. Recently I've enjoyed have the macaroni salad on the side, which is also very well made, and is well balanced in flavor.Overall, a great sandwich shop with a unique twist on the sandwich. I can only find two faults: it's too popular, meaning you may need to wait in line for quite a bit, and their Cuban Sandwich (called a Cubano, incorrectly) does not have salami, which is an important component to the Cuban sandwich often missed by those who are only familiar with the inferior Miami variant of Tampa's greatest sandwich. I can certainly look past those two issues and enjoy a delicious sandwich, and highly suggest you do the same.

Overall rating: 4.3I've been wanting to try this place ever since I saw it online. I LOVE SANDWICHES. But this place, eh. Possibly on the overhype spot. A clear IG spot with its decor, but I was still excited to give it a try. I went around 6:12 and at the time they closed at 6:30. A few people arrived after me and they were denied. I love Italian sandwiches so I tried that one since the Chopped Cheese was sold out hours ago.Not gonna lie though, for a $18 (w/ tax) sandwich it has to slappppp & this wasn't it. There was too much meat, not off condiments or peppers. They also chop of this sandwich and that was not it. I guess they chop every sandwich. Unlike a deli though, you can't change the sandwich to your liking. I would spend your money elsewhere.

Ive been to this place twice, and both times were a little disappointing. First time i got a roast beef sandwich (pictured), second time I got their seasonal Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich (not pictured). They were both filling sandwiches but i think they have a texture problem because both sandwiches had no crunch and the texture was just soft. The roast beef sandwich was all one texture and I didnt particularly enjoy the warm arugula, since it added to the mushiness. Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich was super mushy, even the bread, which was a lil disappointing bc i expected toasted bread to be crunchier. I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes and the turkey though. Not a fan of cranberry sauce in general so its not an exception here

Was really looking forward to this place since it opened. Came away really, really disappointed.Service was friendly but the food was totally lackluster and pricey for what you get.The roast beef is not a true roast beef -- looks and tastes like a cheesesteak or chopped cheese, really bad cheese and low grade beef. The curried chicken salad was much too wet, and the curry was drab (no kick whatsoever). Celery in chicken salad lacked crunch. The entire sandwich was in actuality drenched in liquid.NOT RECOMMENDED.

Excellent chopper sandwich shop. I've been to a few chopped shops now in New York and so far this is my favorite! I had a chopped turkey bacon sub and it was delightful! The service was quick!

Stick with acclaimed Chopped Cheese! The well known chopped cheese was great. It was a very melty cheesy beefy bite. I've had many cheesesteaks over the past several months and this ranks right up there with the best, if I came back this is what I'll go for.The Italian was described as a server favorite and it was good. It was a little heavy on the vinegar but overall a good recommendation from the staff. The Anthony Bourdain namesake sandwich creation was completely inedible. There is a small window to fry a thin sliced prosciutto properly before it becomes super salty dried up piece of leather. Not a good bite at all. When it is sliced so thin prosciutto only really need to touch the grill quickly before it dries out. Perhaps perfection was achieved with the construction of sandwich others received but mine wasn't. The line is currently insane. Be prepared to wait 30+ minutes minimum. The staff was great and moved people along quickly once you order.

Worth a visit if the line is under 15 mins. Great deli-style sandwiches.I walk past this place regularly and it has a over 30 min line every time, but on a random Saturday there was no line out the door so I went in. I got the Cubano and Thanksgiving Leftovers. The limited chicken sandwich (limited to 30) was sold out when I visited around 1:15pm.Quick and efficient services, sandwiches were on the pricey side for a grab and go deli but I guess you're paying for a premium I wish the sandwiches came with a pickle to cut through the heavy and salty flavors, so remember to buy them at the counter. Sandwiches were good but the bread was just okay. Kind of stale. I would come if I was craving a deli sandwich and there was no wait

Not sure if I'd ever wait up to 45 minutes for a sandwich ever again, and just as expected these sandwiches are all hype. I will say the Mac salad was great and the chopped cheese had a lot of great cheesy flavor, but my chicken cutlet was not super moist despite it being drowned in vodka sauce. Not sure I'd go back unless the line dies down but if you're into sandwiches check them out!

Was very excited to stop by and try their chopped cheese and Italian, however, it turns out they close at 6:30 (not 7, which Yelp had initially posted...), so when I entered at 6:32 I was almost not served and they were not making any more chopped cheeses for the evening. I am very grateful that they did decided to make an exception and let me order, because I thouroughly enjoyed the Italian and pivoted to trying the Anthony Bourdain - which may have been the best sandwich I have tried all year! The sandwiches themselves are tasty and satisfying (no skimping on ingredients) and are well curated. The space itself has limited seating (mainly a to-go shop where you can take your sandos to Wash Square Park or Botanica Bar). I am excited to go back and try some of the other ones too! (Like finally the chopped cheese and turkey club).

The Good - Great great great sandwich - I really enjoy the chopped concept and can't wait to try it on other sandwiches they offer. I had the Chopped Cheese and it was delicious and very appropriately priced. The Bad - This may be because it's so early and they've gain a lot of popularity but the line was crazy. Arrived 5 mins before they opened on a Thursday and there were at least 20 people in front of me. It moved at a decent speed but I didn't end up leaving until 1 hour later. The line stinks !I'll def be back but hope to get in line earlier. I also want to try the chicken cutlet sandwich and also the Italian.
