On a really lazy weekday evening, the craving strikes for some Blue Hour. The cwunchwap supweme (you must say it exactly like that when you talk about this with your friends) is standout, same concept as Taco Bell with a giant tortilla wrapping an abundance of fillings but much, much better execution. Both types of chicken (fried or marinated) work great inside it.Sometimes I think the appeal is telling people that I'm going to a gas station to get dinner. Bonus if you are also running low on gas--why not also treat yourself to some delicious food for remembering to fill up your tank?

Mehhhh tenders. They were dry and over fried. But plentiful fries!! So made up for the disappointment a bit. The convenience store had so many delicious snack options! I walked out with so much candy.

The food was delicious. I got the french fries and the chopped cheese, The portions were large. It took a little while to be ready, especially for a fast food. I also had the lemonade which was so good. The location itself surrounding area is not the cleanest. But the restaurant itself is very clean. They have a number of delicious dipping sauces. I got the aïoli which was delicious. It's minus one star just because the location is not very desirable but otherwise it's perfect.

Inside the BP gas station is a hidden gourmet gem. Meat and food quality is perf for a sneaky little late night bite which is good cuz they open late!Best edition to the neighborhood a halal girlie could have asked for

This is Charli XCX's album Brat in restaurant form. And I LOVE Brat. Just as I first felt about Brat, I had misgivings about Blue Hour. It seems cool in a way that's over my head. But keep listening. The music starts to sound amazing and you get to the deeper, much more nuanced message behind the grating exterior. In "Sympathy is a Knife," Charli relishes in sympathy for not being as mainstream as a certain blonde pop superstar, but she hates it too. Aagggh feelings to amazing dance beats, beam me up!!!! Similarly, the food at Blue Hour can seem overly simple and direct: we have a chopped cheese, a chicken parm sandwich, chicken tenders, tots, and the cleverly named "Cwunchwrap Supweme." But their tenders have a mild lemon pepper seasoning; a nod to lemon pepper wings. The chicken parm sandwich represents NYCs Italian heritage. There's a halal chicken rice bowl (more on that later), and a loco moco, although I'm not sure that's about more than being open after midnight by the Myrtle Wyckoff L. These items are really beautifully made and have some really subtle great things happening. These items are also so specifically New York. So while the items are few, they feel so carefully considered. Owners Mohamed Ghiasi and Ali Zaman previously opened two NYC Afghani restaurants, including Little Flower, and they're bringing their mastery of cooking to the edgy presentation. They source their produce from halal markets and make everything from scratch up to the porcini stock for the loco moco. They said in an interview that Afghanis are in large part responsible for NYCs amazing food scene, so tying that all together in a concept is really friggin awesome. It's a pretty weighty idea dressed in frivolous clothing- so, basically Charli XCXs album Brat, did I mention that before? And god damnit it's fun.

Got here right at open on a Sunday. Was greeted with an actual "Good morning" by the cutest guy with the dreamiest eyes. Dev, I think, was his name? Immediately placed my order for the Chop Cheese, Tots and the Qwunch WAP Supreme with a Maracuya Lemonade. My boyfriend and I were chatting with Dev, who was super nice and made great conversation, while we waited for our order to be made. He also gave us our lemonade and a surprise lemonade flavor not on the menu, Lavender Piña? I think and they were so damn good and refreshing! It only took about 10 minutes for our order to come together, and as the guy handed it to us, he thanked us and asked for us to let him know what we thought. I told him we would likely be back the next day. Since we were in the middle of doing laundry at the time we went to order, we went back home so we could try the food real quick and we were eating in silence, talking with her eyes because it was so damn good. Our tots had the perfect crisp and we had gotten these side sauces, an onion aioli and another spicy sauce that i can't remember the name of to dip them in that we were going nuts over. They were so damn tasty! Smoky, oniony, garlicky, light heat. Just yum! This was a quick trip on laundry day that may have turned into an addiction. The food is flavorful, made quick to order, and the price was right. We already decided what we were going back for tomorrow and we can't wait!

Super excited about this place. Extremely friendly staff. Tots - 5 stars, eat them right away, crunchy and dip in the special sauce. Large portion for 5 dollars.Smash burger - 4 stars. I ate it so fast.Dragon Boy Hot Chicken Sandwich - 3 1/2 stars. It's just too small. A little too much sauce as well, would probably get soggy if delivered. Chicken tendies - 3 stars. Taste homemade in a good and bad way. Good seasoning but overly fried, kind of like breadcrumb instead of batter coated, if I were them I would change recipe. They do NOT look like they do on the menu board. I would try the fries next, heard good things. The cwunch wap looks like I'd be disappointed. Also curious about the chicken parm. Most importantly get extra special sauce! And grab a crisp seltzer or soda from the gas station to pair with the food.
