Betong - Khao Man Gai

Betong is a super popular Thai spot located inside Canal Street Market known for their delicious mixed chicken platters. It's a great spot whether you want thai drinks, noodles or rice dishes! The service was welcoming and quick! Since it's inside the market, it's a laidback spot perfect for a hangout.what we ordered: combo 3: mix steamed and grilled chicken rice + salad + drink (Thai iced lemon tea)  $19.95 combo 6: salmon curry noodle + onsen egg + chicken bun + drink  $22.95 I love the mixed chicken rice especially the steamed chicken which was super juicy. The salad was a good side! the lemon tea was really good! You still taste the black tea with some citrusy lemon flavors! The salmon noodles really hit the spot with how creamy the noodles are.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I'm so glad it did not disappoint! I opted for the combo chicken rice which included both the steamed chicken and grilled chicken. This was a great way to sample both types of chicken and I enjoyed both in its own way. The steamed chicken was simple - lightly salted and paired so well with the sauces that it came with. The grilled chicken was flavorful on its own but still tasted great with the sauces. I appreciated the chicken having minimal to no bones, making it easy to eat. This is my type of comfort food. I can't wait to be back!

It's inside the Canal St Market food court, right by the subway, very convenient. It's Khao Man Gai. There is a kiosk to order from. They accept credit and cash. If you order with cash, it's 4% discount, but you have to order with cashier. There are some standing tables to eat at. I got the combo grilled and steamed chicken. It comes with soup. You can also get the set. It's delicious and moist chicken with great sauce and ginger rice.

Was super excited to try Betong as I've heard so many great things about the chicken rice here! I ordered the "regular" portion and would say it was enough to fill me up although I'm not really a big eater. Where the experience fell a bit short was the taste of the dish. I had really hoped the steamed chicken rice would be more flavorful but both the rice and chicken was a bit bland. The grilled chicken rice was considerably more flavorful and I'd probably order that one if I were to revisit. The sauces did really help to add flavor to the dish but overall I felt the dish fell short of my expectations. The included soup also didn't have much taste aside from a powerful peppery taste which I found interesting. If you don't like pepper, you probably wouldn't like the soup much. The cucumbers in my dish were sadly bitter to taste. Overall, I thought the price point at $12.95 for a regular portion of steamed chicken rice or grilled chicken rice was really fair being that the stall is inside Canal Street Market and things can get pricey in Manhattan. Our food was made fresh and presentation was also stunning!

Decent chicken and rice spot. The flavors were okay, though the dish was a bit heavy on fat, and the fish sauce was more overpowering than I'd like. Still, it made for a nice snack overall.

I was super excited to find a halal khao man gai or hainanese chicken place in Chinatown so that I can share it with my SO. The stall is located in the Canal Street Market. There are plenty of seats and restrooms inside. We got the combo of both steamed and roasted chicken with rice, soup, an appetizer, and a drink. We got the bao and thai iced tea. Both were great. I didn't have any preference over the steamed or roasted chicken. They both tasted great with the provided three sauces. I had better khao man gai but this was still pretty good. Bonus points for being halal.

Found a nice casual spot for incredible papaya salad and grilled chicken near Chinatown. Located in Canal Street Maket, BeTong is a food counter specialized in khao man gai. The pricing is very affordable, meaning you don't have to splurge to get quality thai food. ＊Papaya Salad ***My favorite of the night. It is an assortment of papaya, long beans, cherry tomatoes and crush peanuts. Extremely appetizing as it is drizzled with a spicy tangy dressing. I'll def come back and order this again and again esp on hot summer day. ＊Grilled Chicken Rice **I poured the tamarind ginger sauce over ginger rice and BOMB it was amazing!! The chicken was soooooo tender and also had a great chemistry with the sauce. ＊Chicken BunThe grilled chicken was flavorful and got a good fat-to-meat ratio. Sadly the steamed bun was lukewarm... It was probably premade and they didn't reheat the food before serving. ＊Curry Chicken and RotiThe green curry was thick and creamy with a nice touch of coconut milk. Flavor-wise we really liked it, and hoped it could be spicier. However the roti was also served cold... Don't repeat my mistake--get the rice to pair with your curry. ＊Thai Iced TeaNot too sweet. A nice accompaniment to your chicken rice.

Located in Canal Street Market. This place has many combo options that include an appetizer of either a salad or chicken bun, steamed chicken, and ginger rice or sticky white rice. I chose combo 2, which includes steamed and grilled chicken, a chicken bun or salad, and a drink. This option has a lot of food, which is what I like. Got a Thai ice tea and it was pretty delicious. The chicken doesn't really have much fat and it's very tender and fresh. Chicken bun was pretty good and sauce was sweet and pairs well with the chicken. The combos are priced pretty well and chicken is halal and Hainanese marinated with spices. They have a checkout kiosk for convenience.

The first bite into the chicken bun and I knew I made the right choice for lunch! It was my first time visiting so I wasn't quite sure what to order, the exceedingly patient and pleasant young lady working helped me...I settled on the chicken combo set which included a chicken bun, soup, grilled and steamed chicken with rice and a Thai iced tea ($25.90 with tip and tax). The food was good...like really, really good. It's located in a food hall with a variety of restaurants which all looked really good (Betong had the best reviews so I decided on this spot). It's clean, comfortable, and easily accessible! Cant wait to return.
