Amazing Japanese bar and restaurant. The food and drinks were so good! I had the me diary cocktail. I didn't get much earl grey but I did enjoy it. Two of our group had mock tails and enjoyed them. For food we had the croquette, Wagyu toast, potato salad, omu rice, duck, and katsu sando. I didn't have any of the croquette or katsu sando. Apparently those were hot, fresh, and really good. The potato salad was yummy but nothing to rave about. The omu rice was really impressive and tasted so good. This was my favorite. The Wagyu toast was tiny but I love the flavors. The shiso went really well with the beef and added some spice. The duck sauce was delicious but the duck was chewy and the fat wasn't rendered properly. The Brussel sprouts were delicious. For dessert we had all three. The panna cotta was the best panna cotta I've had. The texture was incredible and the dessert wasn't too sweet. The pudding with yamazaki 12 was boozy and so good. It was a creative dessert I would definitely order again. The tiramisu hojicha shaved ice was a beautiful texture and not too sweet. All this food was enough for four people. The service was quick and friendly and the restaurant wasn't too loud. I loved the decor as well. Would highly recommend!

Small place with good vibes. Service was good, although not the most welcoming/warm. They seemed understaffed. Food was great, loved the lotus root chips (just trust me on this one) and duck prosciutto was thick and oh so divine!!!

I went to Bar Moga on a date and we both ordered two cocktails. It was a busy Wednesday night. I saw couples on dates and I saw friends hanging out. The atmosphere was incredible. The service at Bar Moga was fantastic. The waiter noticed my purse on the ground and he picked it up and placed it on the empty chair next to me. I would definitely want to come back to Bar Moga and try more of their Japanese comfort dishes. 10/10 sophisticated bar recommendationFood: We ordered the Hamachi Carpaccio and the golden Uni Pan.

I went to this pricey but pretty tasty place a while ago as per many of my recent reviews. Bar Moga has some of the dishes you'd associate with Western Japanese/Yoshoku spots but the prices are notably higher and they have more unique options. The prices go along with their very interesting drink menu consisting of some very fancy Japanese whiskey flights, unique cocktails, and some seasonal cocktails. Otherwise the food is expensive and good in some cases and overpriced but tasty in other cases. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant feels for lack of a better term classy. To drink, I had the Dress Up For the Night for $19 made with Nikka coffee gin, lime, Sorate matcha superior, white cacao, pink peppercorn, and tonic. I believe they might have used Kettl matcha back then as Sorate wasn't open yet but I'm not sure. Anyway, this was a tasty drink with a bit of sweetness in the front likely from the cacao and gin, some bitterness and earthiness presumably from the matcha, and it ended with a slight bite from the pink peppercorn. Nice mix of complex flavors and certainly worth it for $19 and I would recommend it.We had a bunch of appetizers to begin with. Cheapest but still tasty was the Kani Cream Croquette which comes with two pieces for $14 with snow crab, mushroom, and tartar sauce. The croquette had a lighter batter than most which I didn't mind as I could taste more easily the crab and mushroom but it did make it more dainty. The tartar sauce is almost not needed as the batter was light but still appreciated and otherwise there was a lemon and some greens. I would recommend this. The other cheaper appetizer was the Uni Arancini also with two pieces for $16 with snow crab, bechamel, cremini mushroom, saffron rice, uni mayo, smoked gouda, and tomato sauce. Said arancini were tiny but packed with uni. However, the flavor was lost a bit due to the other rich flavors from the sauces and other accompaniments. For the price point, it's good, but I preferred the croquettes. We also had the Hamachi Carpaccio for $26 with yellowtail, uni, garlic confit, yuzu vinaigrette, and truffle. The yellowtail was good quality with the uni flavor being much lighter while the vinaigrette had a subtle sourness. The garlic confit was unnecessary however and the truffle was basically not noticeable and was likely just to increase the price point. This was good but overly thought out and I probably would not get it again based on flavor and price. The Omu Rice for $26 with an omelette, chicken rice, and veal based demi-glace sauce was different but tasty. The demiglace, which is my preference over the other sauce which tends to be ketchup or something similar, had a stronger black pepper flavor then I'm used to but it worked and it was nice and rich with a little bit of subtle sweetness but not too much. The egg texture was also excellent and better than most spots I've been to. I would say the weakest part was the rice itself where I really couldn't taste the chicken nor was there that much of it and it was a bit bland with a very light garlic flavor. This was still tasty with faults but I would recommend it.The Katsu Sando for $26 with sakura pork, hatcho miso sauce, lime karashi mayo, and Japanese milk bread was good. It was cut into three thick pieces with pretty tender pork and a mix of sweet and sour sauces likely used to mimic the more common tonkatsu and kewpie sauce combo found on said sandwich/sando. For the price point, I prefer the katsu sando at J's Kitchen in the East Village as the pork is actually better there and you get a much bigger sandwich but it was good. The Kogashi Duck Roast for $32 with double cooked duck, Brussel sprouts, and double charred soy sauce was tasty. The duck was tender though it could have been a bit crispier and the Brussel sprouts were nicely roasted with a bit of char for added flavor. The sauce was rich and tasty though perhaps tad salty and I can imagine others finding it a bit too salty. The last dish was the Gyutan Curry for $48 with a 78 house blend spice curry sauce and simmered beef tongue. This was easily the biggest of the dishes and easily the most expensive Japanese curry I've ever had but for a group, it's probably worth it. I could name probably only a handful of the spices that were used and a couple of us tried guessing a bunch of the spices that were in there while we were eating this. The beef tongue was very tender and the rice and vegetables helped soak up the very rich and complex sauce. I kind of wish there was an option to top the Omu Rice with this sauce instead for a few bucks more as a fancy take on curry rice. The food here is good but there's probably a bit too many faults for me to give it 4 stars. There were too many dishes that were just fine and the fact that my favorite dish was $48 and it would be barely enough to fill up one person doesn't help much. 3.3 (would be a 4.2 for drinks alone.)

Bar Moga NYC offers a truly unique dining experience. The service was impeccable - attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The food was exceptional, with highlights including the melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu Toast and the perfectly cooked Kogashi Duck Roast. However, the intimate setting also means limited space. Reservations are highly recommended, as walk-ins may have a difficult time securing a table.Overall, Bar Moga NYC is a fantastic choice for a special occasion or a night out with friends.

Their omurice was perfectly executed with the most velvety eggs. Rice a bit on the dry side. The Katsu sando was a bit tendon-y and I wish they trimmed it a bit more, but the mustardy sauce was a great balance to the porky flavor.Really great ambiance and seems to be a very popular date spot! Service also excellent.

We stopped by here for some drinks with friends on a Monday night. It's got a dive bar feel from the dark wood, but with a Japanese flair from their cocktails to food.We had a few cocktails between our group with The Moga ($19), New York Henge ($23), Fly Me To The Moon ($23), and Sailor's Song Mule ($20). The moga is a twist on an Old Fashioned while the NY Henge was a mix of that and a light, fruity flavor. The sailor cocktail was recommended when I asked for something with ginger, which was good. Overall, nothing that really stood out to me, but solid drinks. Unfortunately, we weren't able to try their food since their kitchen closes at 9:45pm.

I came here for drinks and was so happy! We didn't have a reservation so I didn't expect to get in on a Saturday night but we somehow managed to get two bar seats! The bar tender was incredible - he was attentive and provided recommendations on drinks to get. The cocktails are very unique! There are a ton of ingredients that I really don't know what they mean, but all very good! The ambience is amazing for a date night! I want to come back to try the food

It was our first time in New York and we were recommended by a friend to come to Bar Moga. We had dinner prior down the street and stopped by for a few drinks. We walked in without a reservation and sat at the bar. It had a nice jazzy loungey feel to it. It was so cozy and everyone was so friendly. We both ordered two drinks (I got the Bee-Bop and I can't remember the second one). Since all the drinks were delicious, we decided to get dessert too! We got the pudding dessert with the bourbon caramel sauce. It was to die for. After every bite I couldn't help but ask my partner "How is this SO good?!" Our friends who recommended the place came here for the Omu Rice. And it seemed popular because we kept seeing it come out of the kitchen. Right then and there we made dinner reservations for the next night.Mikki (I'm so sorry if I spelled your name wrong) was so friendly and attentive. She took her time to make conversation with us which was so nice. We felt like we made a new friend!Bar Moga is definitely going to be our go to when we come back to NY.

Review is for drinks only. Stopped by for a couple of drinks. Ordered the New York Henge as my first drink. I initially thought it was going to hit closer to an old fashioned but it was quite light and refreshing. The smell of bourbon was strong but the taste was lighter as it had lemon and green apple. I also ordered The Moga, which is their take on an old fashioned. I thought this was also a little lighter on the old fashioned side. The presentation of the drinks were very detailed and somewhat special depending on the drink. Service was quick but we felt a bit rushed at times. Kind of felt like the waiters were rushing us out.
