For many years, it was easy to transport yourself to Tepito, Pantitlan, perhaps other neighborhoods along Linea 4 and B at the inexpensive taquerias of the outer boroughs. Perhaps the greatest culinary accomplishment of the 2020s in NYC is the advent of casual and higher-end format Mexican eateries that might instead transport you to a cool evening in Roma Norte or Coyoacan.Aldama is one such restaurant which faced some headwinds due to early critiques shortly after opening. On a recent Saturday evening, the bar was on the emptier side, which made for perfect environs to peacefully enjoy a glass of mezcal and a scorching plate of queso fundido paired with delicate tortillas coddled in a basket. All that being said, I wouldn't object if they added a few more vegetarian items to the menu.

Still dreaming of the mezcal here and the delicious take on chips and guac. What an elevated and high end way to present it, what got me was that delicious mole sauce. We came here for a little happy hour and were extremely surprised with the space as soon as we walked in. There's a whole world in here ready to take you in. I love how quaint and intimate it is and the kind of people you can run into. From friends catching up, to coworkers bonding to date nighters. This place brings the music, mezcal and Mexico spirit to Brooklyn.I knew I wanted to sip or have a mezcal cocktail as soon as we walked in. If you come during their happy hour, you can enjoy a Sangre de Mezcal drink for only $12. Yes, it might look small but it sure is mighty. I'm not a frozen drink kind of person since these are usually watered down with way too much ice but this one right here was just RIGHT. Hibiscus and mezcal are the perfect marriage and in this frozen drink, you sure can taste the bursts of flavors. We had to get to dinner at another spot but couldn't leave without drinking one of their best mezcals served the traditional way. I felt as if I was transported to Oaxaca and came back. If never even been there but the power of flavors that can transport you anywhere you want in just a sip. Can't wait to be back and try their full menu or even brunch!

Aldama was amazing! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, including a charming outdoor bar when the weather is good, and we opted to sit outside. Vibes are immaculate. I tried:+ Mount Fuji cocktail + El pitayo cocktail + Dando dando cocktail + Lava paradise cocktail + Labruscal cocktail + Guacamole + Cecina+ Scallop aguachile+ Taco de trompo+ Taco de canasta + Buñuelo con mousse de cajetaSadly they were out of the frozen cocktail that I wanted to try, but I liked the backup options. The best dishes were the guac, aguachile and taco de canasta. Can't wait to return!

My friends and I took the water taxi from DUMBO to Williamsburg the other night for a fun evening out. Aldama was only a few blocks from the ferry terminal. We arrived early to our reservation so we're first seated in their small bar area. We shared some guacamole and tostada chips and had some delicious cocktails. A standout for me was the ceviche, guacamole and cecina. All of the tacos we tried were amazing as well. The back of the restaurant has and outdoor covered patio that looked amazing at night with twinkling lights. Service was excellent. Lovely place for a special meal.P.S. The menu progresses in portion size. Be careful not to over order. For 3 of us they recommend 6-7 dishes and after 4 or 5 we were stuffed. The food is cooked so fresh and it's a slower process so your stomach has time to catch up and tell you when you are full. You can always take home your leftovers but in our experience we didn't need the 2 mains - oxtail and octopus. They both tasted great but we could hardly take a bite we were so full.

Absolutely incredible! I dined at Aldama with a few colleagues and it did not disappoint! The menu may be limited but every item is delicious. For my drinks, I had the Madero to start and then a Jalapeño margarita. We pretty much ordered the entire menu - guacamole, Daikon Tostada, Cecina, Strip Steak Huarache, Taco de Canasta, Brisket taco, Pulpo Zarandeado, Oxtail Barbados. My favorite was the brisket taco, I ended up ordering a second one!I hear they change the menu often so I can't wait to go back and try something new!

WOW. Can't believe this place has such good reviews. Service: OK. Food: pretty good. Prices: absolutely unreasonable. Portion sizes are small. Don't expect a $9 taco to be nine dollars worth of taco. We ordered the Pipian which is the "vegan" mole but I'm pretty sure most moles are vegan. It was pretty basic and didn't wow for $33. You get 5 corn tortillas with it and if you ask for more (which you will), they'll charge you $2/ 5 tortillas every time you order more but won't tell you it cost extra. LolAnyway, vibes are good but come on it's NY there are better places.

I came here for brunch and was a bit unimpressed by the food but thought the vibe of this place does fit Williamsburg well! Food: the brunch menu felt a bit limited! I ordered the chilaquilles and added chicken! The dish was a bit too tomatoey for my liking and there was not enough chicken added! Ambience: loved the vibe of this place! The restaurant is much bigger than you would expect when you first look at it! They have a bar area, and in the back a whole seating area with a garden! It was a nice place to go and grab brunch with friendsPrice: a bit expensive for what it was! The meal will cost around ~30 Service: good service, they weee attentive

Came with the girls on a Tuesday for dinner! When we got to the spot our first thoughts were where are we going to sit it was quite small and intimate - but they have a gorgeous terrace and back room once you walk in more! this place gets 10/10 for the vibe check and serviceThe servers were so kind - always checking in and making fun small talk. It was raining the littlest bit and they offered to switch us to indoor seating which was kindFoood wise I was not tooo impressed to be honest - moreso because prices are quite high considering the portions. The guac we split for the table and it was good - nothing special. wish it was a little more zesty as thats my preference the squid was my favorite dish and probably the best cooked squid ive ever had. juicy and chewy, full of mexican spicesthe lobster was also quite tasty but between 3 girls we got a really small piece eachlast i got a single pork taco which was also quite tasty but again considering the price it wasn't fillingoverall i give 4/5 stars because the prices are high for what you get but the food and everything else is great here!

This review is for dinner. Some of the food was a hit or miss, so I wouldn't necessarily come solely for the food, but I think the ambiance + decent enough food is reason to check this place out. Service: had a reservation, but the party before us ended up taking longer to leave. We ended up having to wait a half hour to be seated, which wasn't ideal. However, the manager was really apologetic and paid for our first round of drinks. Because of that, I think the service was really good.Ambiance: I would come back solely for the ambiance. It's definitely a vibe in the best possible way. You walk in and it's super unassuming - very low ceilings and teeny tiny. However, there's a door partly through the kitchen, a small flight of stairs you walk up and the whole vibe is transformed. It's such a wonderful surprise! There's also a large outdoor area that looks like it'll be a lot of fun in warmer weather. Food: this was hit or miss for me. I ordered:-Guacamole: very fresh, but way under seasoned. -Cecina: I've never had something like this before. Super super thin and crunchy. I thought it was really unique!-Taco de Trompo: a must. This was the best thing I ate. Really really flavorful. -Sope de Costilla: this was good too. -Asado: definitely good to share. This was actually split amongst four people. I personally didn't love this, but I know others did enjoy. I thought it was a bit under seasoned and the cheese had zero flavor.
