Someone told me this spot was overpriced and not worth the money, and it stopped me from going for several months! Decided to finally give it a try and form my own opinion and was pleasantly surprised. The karaage is lightly battered & fried, flavored perfectly with a chewy, mochi-like exterior. It was absolutely delicious. It was a perfectly balanced meal with the purple rice and salad. I also opted to add the miso soup for $4, which was definitely worth it - hearty, savory, and filled with an assortment of veggies. The matcha latte also seemed to be high quality and a great creamy/foamy texture. So yes, the price may feel a tad high (although that's just inflation now), but the quality of food is great. I would come back!Definitely a crowded/popular spot - all the indoor tables were filled but many may miss the back patio that is still completely covered and warm with heat lamps.

There was a bit of a line in the front section to order your food on a Sunday afternoon. Once you order though, you can seat yourself in the dining section and pick up your food when your buzzer rings. I got a chicken karage sandwich and it was really good. The karage was super crispy and the mayo sauce was quite flavorful - I maybe would've preferred slightly less sauce but it wasn't necessarily overwhelming. I also liked the brioche bun it came with. My one complaint with ACRE is that the portions are on the smaller side while the prices are somewhat high.

Food- 4.5/5 i will always come back here for food. I think the best meal is Don Katsu but chicken karage is pretty solid too. Curry was decent but if i come back, ill certainly get Don Katsu. Service- 4/5 nothing special because you order and you pick up your own food. What I appreciate is its open kitchen. It shows transparency and confidence with their hygiene level! Overall, highly recommend for simple Japanese lunchie if you are in Greenpoint!

ACRE sits among the great businesses in Greenpoint's Little Japan neighborhood, appealing to those looking for home decor or a meal. When you step in you'll find yourself in their retail store, with shelves of ceramic bowls, plates, wooden utensils, kind of like a fancier Muji. They also have bottles of sake and some kitchen supplies like sauces for sale.Make your way to the back for their restaurant, and you'll see a generous amount of seating, probably enough for like 40 people or so. There's even a backyard with tables and chairs, a dining area that looks just as large as the one inside, though it was too cold for me to hang out back there. Inside, it's reminiscent of a nice cafeteria, and there's no table service, so I found the $25+ price tag for the lunch sets a bit high. The karaage set came with purple rice and a salad and was pretty tasty, as was the hojicha latte I got to wash it all down with.As charming as the place was, I don't think I'm running back. The portions were too small, but that might be my American appetite talking.

Loved Acre. Fast Casual Japanese lunch spot with major tokyo coffee house vibes. The drinks were good, the food was good, and I loved how it felt special even though it was fast casual. When you enter, there's a store that sells Japanese goods, and a coffee bar and counter where you can order your food. Then you can go into the next room, get seated, watch the open kitchen while you wait for your food. When it comes, you can tell that it's simple but made well. I always appreciate that.

This is such a cute restaurant/store! I ordered a bento and one of the lattes. Everything was so delicious and had very balanced flavors. Nothing was too sweet/salty/sour and it really hit the spot. It does get a bit crowded but definitely worth stopping by even if just to check out the cool items they have for sale in the front!

On a Saturday brunch, it can be a bit stressful. You must place your order first at the cashier and pay. They would give you a pager. There were four of us, so my son scouted for a table after paying while my daughter and I waited for our drinks at the counter. It was packed. There was a line to place your order. But there were also cute and very unique kitchen paraphernalia to amuse you. Shortly after settling on our table, the pager buzzed: our food was ready. Open kitchen and they were busy. It was like a fancy cafeteria. Recyclable bento boxes filled with well made dishes. My salmon was properly charred with a mild piquant taste of Saikyo miso. It was buttery and delectable, pairing well with the purple rice. I tried my daughter's pork katsu and that was impressive: so tender! So delicious! Even the brussel sprouts were amazing. My matcha latte was weak though. It had no personality. My son said the ginger in white miso soup was kinda strong, but ginger never bothered me. I'm curious to try the chicken curry rice. The lady who took our orders was nice. But it was basically self-serve.

I love this place so much.First of all, their chicken sandwich is better than the one from Double Chicken Please. I said what I said, and I'll say it again. It was tender, the bread was soft but with a delicate crunch, and so so fresh. It has a refreshing crunch from the japanese slaw that's on it.I've also been back and gotten their bento and the ingredients are just good quality and paid attention to. The rice is fluffy and soft, the salad has a wonderful brightness to it (is that yuzu I taste?) The matcha I've had iced and hot, and it's good quality. I also liked their hojicha raspberry latte as well. The matcha cake was just okay, it was a bit stale, not sure if it was an off day, but everything else was so good I'll give this place a 5 stars still.
