Honest review of 4 Charles Prime Rib New York: Located at 4 Charles Street in a Beautiful Historic West Village Brownstone tucked away down some stairs is 4 Charles. Known for their celebrity sightings and Legendary Wagyu Burger it's a must go on people's restaurant list! When you enter you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city and are transported back in time. Easy listen jazz plays in the background, beautiful. Crystal chandeliers light the plush leather seating and gorgeous wood. All the restaurants in NYC I've been to were loud and hard to carry on a conversation, not here....all good vibes and a faint echo of others dining. My waiter was Brandon and he was great with giving descriptions of each dish as well as suggesting what to pair it with. I started the evening with plump shrimp scampi in a butter/garlic sauce and a lemon drop martini. After you devour your shrimp you can dip the toast in the sauce to indulge further, next I ordered their talked about Wagyu French dip! the bread was toasted right on par to accommodate the juicy Wagyu steak shavings, and the horse radish whip was amazing and added to the explosion of flavors. My main dish is why I waited 3 weeks to finally get into this establishment, the Chicago cut Prime Rib! When I say that this is by far not only the best Prime Rib in NYC but the best prime rib I've ever had, I'm not joking! The cut was not only thick, tender, Juicy and full of flavor, it also had the best meat to fat ratio I've ever experienced. If I had to choose one last prime rib ever to eat...this would be it! I really thought about ordering the iconic desserts they are known for but I reach my limit on this one. Imma have to fast for two days so I don't feel guilty about this wonderful meal. I recommend planning a month ahead for reservations for a party of 3 or more, if you are by yourself they open at 3:45pm and do take early bird dinners. A Must if you are in NYC!

We came by without a reservation on Friday at 3:20pm (they open at 4pm) to try to walk-in. There was already one party ahead of us, and another party joined the line soon after. The party ahead of us got seated right at 4pm, but we were told to come back at 6pm, and I think the party of two behind us had to come back even later at night, so keep this in mind if you're trying to walk in!We got the prime rib (Chicago cut), the french dip, truffle mac and cheese, the broccoli, and the chocolate pie for dessert (my friends got the wagyu burger, which they liked but I passed on it since I've already had the Au Cheval burger and they seem fairly similar). Prime rib was good - it came with au jus on the side and dipping salt - it definitely needs those to lift up the flavor. I enjoyed the prime rib french dip as well, which also came with a gravy on the side but it was $40. Mac and cheese was solid and broccoli was just broccoli. The chocolate pie was solid but not standout - the custard was thick like chocolate ganache and there was a huge dollop of cream on top.Overall a solid meal but not worth the hype or the price in my opinion. I also thought the service was just ok - they were nice but sounded a bit condescending at times. I'd also note that the space is very small, which created an awkward situation when we were coming in for our reservation. A large party was leaving and had gotten their coats right as we were coming in, so we were all crowded at the entrance. For some reason the large party was just standing there rather than moving towards the door, and rather than escorting us immediately to the table, the coatman kept asking us if he could take out coats right at the entrance (since there were so many people, there was no space to set our stuff down, including our bags and wet umbrellas, for us to take off our coats). It just resulted in an odd standoff, and the party leaving made some rude comments, which put me in a bad mood to start off. I usually don't care about service, but if I'm paying exorbitant prices I honestly expect a bit better.

Great albeit expensive meal, which is typical for a Hogsalt restaurant. This place is pretty impossible to get a reservation for, so we showed up at 3:20, waited in line for ~40 minutes, and then were able to put our names down for a table at 6pm. It was surprisingly easy for a Friday night. We ordered the Chicago cut prime rib, the burger, and the french dip. The prime rib and french dip were amazing, the burger I thought wasn't as good relative to its price point ($50 a pop!!!). Mac n cheese and broccoli for sides, both solid but nothing outstanding. The chocolate cream pie for dessert was lovely!!!Service was good, but this place is so tiny and cramped that getting in and out is a very awkward ordeal.

We were greeted by probably the worst waiter we have ever experienced in the world. He decided to profile us and we didn't even receive a greeting or run down of the restaurant. I guess he didn't know we dined at Disfrutar this year. Anywho, we had to ask him to put in Caviar service as he wasn't engaging or willing to take our order. After the delicious caviar service, and hearing the run down of show at the table next to us. we decided to speak up and we are sure glad we did because said waiter was removed from the table and the most wonderful waiter from Madison, Wisconsin took care of us. The oysters and shrimp cocktail were delicious and a nice pairing with the caviar service. The burger more than lived up to the hype, I keep thinking about the flavors. The Wagyu Strip was one of the best prepared steaks we've had in a very long time. For side we went with the Mac and Cheese which was delicious and of course the Mushrooms. I know there is sherry in the mushrooms but whatever they do to them they are exceptional. The spinach was good but we were at The Corner store the day prior. All of the deserts were phenomenal from the chocolate cream pie, to the enormously huge Lemon meringue, and I loved the Sunday service. I took some of the Coconut cake back to Edition with us and enjoyed very early in the morning. This place is most definitely a visit when in the city. A special thanks to Angie who was such a gem and a huge highlight of our evening.

Came for our 5 year anniversary for brunch! We waited for over an hour before opening, walked in, and were lucky enough to be the last table they let in. The food was absolutely amazing-- every bite was delicious, and the French dip and then creamed spinach are an absolute must. Don't get me started on the chocolate pie.... best dessert EVER! Interested to see how their sister restaurant Monkey Bar compares. I would love to return. The service was top notch as well! Thank you 4 Charles!

Some meals are disappointing. Others exceed expectations. And then a very select few will stay burned in your memory. 4 Charles is in that last category, without a doubt. We came for the burger, and that's where the journey started. Definitely order it with the egg and the bacon -- I initially hesitated because I wanted the meat to do the talking, but our server wasn't wrong with his recommendation.Every ingredient in this burger was amazing. The patty was juicy and dense, yet somehow each bite almost melted in my mouth. The sauce provided a nice balance, without masking the taste of the meat. And the bun was the perfect texture to keep this delicious monstrosity together without turning into wet dough. The French Dip was equally impressive, with delicious slices of beef in a crispy bread. The horseradish-based cream is perfect for adding a little bite, without turning the sandwich into a fire in your sinuses.Mac and cheese was excellent, well worth including even though I didn't have much room left by that point. And the dessert was good - a slice of coconut cake from Veneiro's that helped cool things down after such a decadent meal.Getting a spot here is insane, but keep up the fight, it's definitely worth it!

I've been dying to go to 4 Charles Prime Rib, it's also one of the hardest resys to get. Walk-ins highly recommended. I did a walk-in around 3:30pm and there were already three people waiting outside. The restaurant opens at 4pm. The host was very friendly and I was seated immediately. The dining area is dimly lit with 9 seatings. Flawless service and delicious food. I ordered the cheeseburger with farm egg and bacon, French dip, fries, and the lemon meringue pie. Everything was excellent. I'll have to go back and try the prime rib.

TLDR: Iconic for a reason. Everything at this place was extraordinary. Thankfully the wait was not too long and the servers were so kind and helpful. Ordering the burger is a show itself but the taste is impeccable! The french dip, macaroni and cheese and even desserts are all stand out! The only part that I didnt love was the drinks but the martini was nothing bad, just didnt feel exceptional.

We decided to check for cancellations as we walked by and were surprised to hear that a table is actually available until a certain time. 4 Charles Prime Rib is located in the basement - It's very small and cramped. The overall ambiance inside is dark and moody. My friends all got the 10 oz. wagyu burger topped with a farm egg. It came with quite the show where the server stabs the yolk and lets it drizzle on the patty. I didn't get a chance to try it but heard good things! As for me, I got the English cut which came with 3 thin sliced prime rib with au jus and creamy horseradish. To be honest, I'm not that impressed. The meat was bland in some parts and overly salty in some parts. I didn't think the au jus nor horseradish helped enhance flavors.Sides were just okay - Out of the elote corn, green beans, and truffle Mac and cheese, I liked the Mac and cheese best. It was cooked al dente and tasted truffly. It was cool to try 4 Charles Prime Rib but it was all hype for me.
