MUST DO! Yesteryear's is one of my very favorite shops in New Orleans located right on Bourbon Street. Lots of really interesting Mardi Gras masks both to wear or display plus so much other cool stuff to browse through. I love stopping in the shop every visit for over 30 years. In addition to shopping, you can also get your cards read in the back. That happened a couple of times with friends. * From reading reviews, looks like Yesteryear's closed a couple of years ago. I've had it bookmarked forever and still wanted to leave a review so I could add it to my NOLA collection of reviews. It ~was~ a must do!

YesteryearsIs an amazing shop! All your voodoo gift needs,This is your stop. There are masks, dolls, artAnd a variety of jewelry. But put your cameras away. There's no picture taking tomfoolery. I bought myself a statue. A cute skull bobble head. It's colorful face was paintedJust like Day of the Dead! Also during my visit To Yesteryears,I got a tarot card reading That almost brought me to tears!Chip's reading was so accurateTo what's going on in my life. He seemed totally in tuneTo my emotional strife. That tarot card reading Was the best $20 spent. It was an interesting experience And I'm so glad I went!

In the back of a rather ordinary Bourbon street souvenir shop, I have had Tarot readings done here twice now by a young man who I believe is named Chris. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but his readings so far have been maeningful and I appreciate his matter-of-fact and common sense advice, which seems to come as much from his head and heart as well as the cards. For the best experience, I would have a well thought out and important question in mind to bring to him. There are a lot of "voodoo" shops actively hawking readings and people all over New Orleans who will solicit you in the street for a Tarot or aura reading. I have observed some of these street readings, and the experience is different with Chris, and I highly recommend it. With him, the cards seem to be guides to and tools for spontaneous insight, there were no overt claims to raw mysticism or supernatural ability. This is just my observation and some conjecture, I didn't ask him directly about Tarot. At some points he he has said he didn't need the cards to answer a question, and gave a common-sense answer which I appreciated.

If you go to New Orleans, one of the must dos is getting your palm read and a tarot card reading. After looking at the reviews on yelp, we decided to try this place since the review by another yelper was good.I must say I was pleasantly surprised. We got our reading done by Chris and he was pretty accurate. There were a couple times I was thinking to myself, I have no idea what he's talking about but he eventually got back on the right track. Even if it's not accurate, his approach is almost like a therapist so it kind of helps out in your thinking process.

I would come here to look at the cool curated stuff but not for the tarot reading. Any place where you need to go through gifts and things before reaching the psychic just seems gimmicky. My friend got a reading from this dude who looked like Dwight from The Office, or someone you would see walking out of a sci-fi convention... he was wearing a big black t-shirt.I believe in karma, spirits, and the clairvoyant, and I've had readings done myself in New York, but I had to seriously refrain from laughing at the generic stuff that was spewed. Everything that was said to her could have totally applied to me.There was also a survellaince camera in the corner of the fortune teller's room which made things uncomfortable. Maybe it was for the man who ran into the store during the reading, and at the shopkeeper screamed, "GET OUT OF HERE. YOU CAN'T FCKING COME IN HERE LIKE THAT. I SHOULD HAVE YOU FCKING ARRESTED" to. The shopkeeper apologized as we were walking out but a little too late there. Please control the sh*tshow. (.... are we allowed to write expletives on Yelp???)Yeah...

Not only was this shop cool and full of little knock knacks that ha a very "Louisiana/voodoo/neworleans'y feel", but the shopkeeper was stunningly friendly and genuine and ready to just shoot the breeze with any and all of his patrons- which was surprising considering he works on a street that's usually full of drunken crazies. He was incredibly knowledgable about every product in his store but didn't pressure is to buy and didnt hover over is like a lot of people do in their shops in Nola. Overall it was just a very fun shopping experience. I also got my tarot cards read by the other guy there. $20. You could tell this guy knew what he was doing, too. All he asked was that I have three specific questions about my future in mind so he could give me more specific answers when the time came, and that's where I got in trouble (not being able to come up with super specific inquiries right off the bat.) So if you get the tarot reading, think about that beforehand. This shop was great. A must see for Nola visitors.

Don't ask them about ''Chris'' . He's gone and the lady got really pissy when I asked if Chris was there. They're not going to give you their 'next best reader' either. Just whoever happens to be available at that time. I also saw the dude with long brown hair (that another Yelp review photographed) he looked like an emo punk dude. Two leather cuffs, one on each wrist, shoulder length brown hair. He was pretty young (mid twenties) and was only so-so, not any good.I picked whichever tarot card deck that I felt the 'most drawn to' Then he proceeded to talk very quickly and non-stop about whatever he felt like. His reading of the cards was weird. After he finished his unstoppable fast barrage of meaningless words, he asked if I had any questions.I asked which 'area' these cards were referring toHe said 'personal'I said, I don't really see any of this as relating to personal field. Maybe it's career? He said 'Maybe but it's really more personal'In the end none of the reading applied to my life. It certainly wasn't relevant to my personal life, nor any other realm.I felt like I just wasted 20 dollars. At least it wasn't more.. I really didn't gain ANYTHING from that interaction.

Great tarot card reading by this guy with blond hair, fair skin and dark glasses. He was pretty straightforward and even told me to not ask questions I would not like to hear the answers to because he's blunt. I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely come back again.
