I love Julia St. and all the art galleries. I've been to Jamming on Julia and had a blast every time. So I was looking forward to this event. This was my first time in the White Linen Night but it was nothing like Jamming on Julia. There were more food choices which was great!! We had the ceviche from Espiritus restaurant... it was superb! There was no live music but there was twoDJs and each end of the street. I think that live music really sets the tone and could have made the ambiance better. Some of the art galleries had live music but it was so crowded we couldn't get in. We had a difficult time walking from one end of the street to the other. There was a lot people and most already under the influence of their drinks... I love the art galleries and Julia st. but this event was to crowed for my taste. I like it more mellow, less people and less alcohol oriented. If your idea of a good time involves big crowds and a lot of alcohol it is the event for you. However, I did feel safe. Everything was clean, therewere police officers standing by and all staff was friendly and gave us great service.I will probably not return next year but I will definitely come back to the art district for the fabulous restaurants and art galleries. It is still one of my favorite places in the city.

Favorite festival in New Orleans! It's a hot one so be prepared to sweat your way through the crowds. The art here is magnificent and entry is free. Throughout Julia Street there are beer tables and live music. There are some food vendors but I'd recommend eating somewhere in the quarter after.Seeing a sea of white on Julia Street is pretty darn cool. Drawbacks are obviously the heat and most vendors don't have the air conditioning running because all the doors are open. While going into a gallery you'll be crammed pack like a pack of cracker jacks but you'll see some pretty spectacular stuff! They have modern art, the pricey beautiful art that no one can afford, and art that falls in between. There's not too many summer festivals in New Orleans but this one is a must do! If you enjoy it enough you can wake up the next weekend and do it all again for dirty linen night and the red dress run! So go on and get artsy!

Overall decent event if you don't mind the crowds and you love art. Personally, I wish they'd get the food vendors out of the middle of the street. This used to work, but now it's way too crowded. This clogs up traffic and you can't see the vendors anyway. Also, an app would be nice. The fans they hand out are decent, but an app (like other festivals) would maybe help people do less wondering and more purposeful visiting of art exhibits. I still adore the free admission to museums, and seeing fun exhibits at certain galleries. I may not go every year to Julia St. specifically, but the museums are always worth a trip.Tips and tricks: Go early: there are less crowds the earlier in the evening you go, including for food and popular galleries. Also, arriving early means better parking options. Driving into this area, parking, and even trying to drive out can be super difficult later in the night. Ride sharing is no exception as they have to drive through the same traffic. Visit the museums first (Ogden, CAC, & WW II); they are usually not free of charge on a daily basis, so how exciting that they provide free entry for this night?!?! Awesome! They also have amazing exhibits. The art galleries, while exhibiting amazing art specifically for this night, are always free and said exhibits stay up for a while after the event. Additionally, research the event ahead so that you know the exhibits you want to see and plan out your route slightly; the more crowded the night gets, the harder it is to walk from one end to the other and the harder it is to get into the galleries because they're overcrowded. Late Night CAC Party - worth it if you're into seeing art and partying. If you're going to stay late, definitely attend the late night party at CAC. Gives a chance for traffic to die down a bit, and it's a great time every time I've been. Bonus, it's free to CAC members. Membership isn't expensive anyway, so go ahead and join up to save money on events like this one. Do not dress too fancy unless you're trying to be seen. This event is hot, and the concept of white is not to be "cocktail" attire but white LINEN - breathable clothing. Granted a lot of people are simply there to be seen, so wear what you want, but don't feel obligated to buy a new outfit if you're really there to see the art.

No. Just...no. Heat. Crowds of pretentious people. I just can't do it.At one point, White Linen Night was considered the biggest social event of the summer. Somewhere along the line it became bad. Very bad. Hoards of people (many of whom know nothing about art and are just there to simply "be seen") packed onto a street sweating onto each other while drinking wine. Glamorous? I don't think so. White Linen Night has now become po boy fest minus the awesome food and fun spiritI used to think I could do it. I used to think I could go down there and have a good time. I have never had a good time at White Linen Night. Not even once. If you are into art, that's awesome. I get that the main purpose of the night is to visit galleries that you wouldn't normally visit and maybe buy some art, but I would rather take my own day and visit said galleries when I am not fighting through a crowd of hundreds of people and sweating my makeup off.

Thank you for putting on an amazing art night! It gives me the chance to go into all the galleries I never really had the chance to before. Also it brings a lot of people together for a good reason. I always look forward to it every year!

Its always festival time in New Orleans. ALWAYS. But anytime I can be out with my girlfriends, in the city I love, and catch some bad ass local music, accompanied by liquid libation (of course). SIGN.ME.UP.EVERY.TIME. White Linen Night didn't let us down this year. We showed up a little before the sun was going down, so the heat didn't beat us too badly. The crowd was super chill and definitely around for a good time. We danced (ALOT), made some new friends, and heard some really groovy music. A pretty typical weekend for me and my friends. But when you can get dressed up in all white and look damn good while doing it....makes the evening that more wonderful.

Over the years, I have had some really fun WLN and some really boring ones but there are two threads that run through all of them. 1. It's mind numbingly hot. 2. Most people are about the scene and not the art. So if you know an artist and/or gallery owner and hang out in their space most of the night, WLN is pretty awesome. But if you're wandering the streets in search of water or food, maybe not.

This is a wonderful free event that you can turn into a philanthropic endeavor if you choose. Galleries are opened and about 6 blocks closed off on Julia street for all to view and food and beverage vendors have fares for sell in exchange for between 5-8 tickets. Tickets are available for purchase on each block and proceeds go to ???? CANO I think. 20 tickets were about 25 bucks which is a steal.I seriously didn't realize how many galleries were on this street. Loved the diversity of the attendees, art (although mostly "modern/contemporary"), and food. I had the Fit Nola Stawberry Shake from Charcoals and Pulled Pork Slider from someplace with a K. My husband had Crawfish Etoufee Fries from Loved the mist stations and checkers/chess tables set up. Djs were decent. My tip for next year, go later. We went at 6pm and it was still a little warm and not that many folks out. But definitely putting it in my list of yearly events.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was a fun, free, low-key way to check out an incredible amount of art in a relaxed setting. I will say that I prefer the RI art scene, but I am a very biased hometown girl.Food and drinks are purchased with tickets, which are purchased with cash :), and all proceeds benefit the CAC. I would caution against showing up when it starts; it seems like the action rolls in as the sun sets. The restaurants around the Arts District appear to heat up later on, as well.A couple of affirmations for those on the fence about attending:1) Yes, it's hot. It's NOLA in August, people. Put on your whites and turn out.2) Yes, you will run into pretentious people, and those dying to be seen. See affirmation one, and know that you are fabulous, too. 3) Yes, you will be sad if you miss out. So don't. GO! See all the things, people-watch, imbibe, and maybe, buy yourself a l'il somethin' beautiful.
