The City of New Orleans constructed the nearby harbor and railroad along the New Basin Canal and in 1921 constructed a 500 feet seawall and filled in this space to create the large oak lined know as West End Park. It's a beautiful 14 acre oak-lined Park in the heart of New Orleans' marina district which provides a wonderful green space surrounded by boathouses and a nice spot for picnics, sports and other recreation. The park includes meandering paved walkways, a fountain and plenty of openland to enjoy.

I love this little park! On a jetty on the road between the point and Lakeshore Drive, its got a 3/4 mile walking path, benches, tables, swings, a steep bridge, a little lake, and peace and quiet. I have come with a friend at New Years to see fireworks being set off, walk my dog, have a quiet lunch. There are several large boats nearby to look at and fawn over the over-indulgence of the upper class. It isn't large, it isn't popular, there's not much of a reason to stop by unless your in the area anyway, but it is nice if you want to go to a park but not be around too many people.

West End Park is a great spot to take a picnic or enjoy a few minutes on a rope or tire swing. A breezy spring day makes it even better.Located right next to the Lake, this is a nice green space with many live oak trees. While there are not tons of amenities, there is plenty of space for kids and dogs to run. Parking around this park is easy and crowds are light.

Nice, well maintained park that runs along Lake Ponchatrain. There are covered picnic areas, playground equipment and benches along the shoreline. There is lots of parking along the shoreline, as well as lots. Very restful and open, no claustrophobia here!
