Within the historic part of Marigny is a tiny 19th century park with a small playground and a statue of George Washington. After eating breakfast at Ayu Bakery (which is so good!), we strolled across the street to the park for our seven-year-old daughter to play on the playground. There's shady parts of the park to escape the hot sun too.

This historic park is an oasis in the Marigny Triangle on the edge of the Frenchmen Street entertainment district. (It's NOT in the French Quarter, as an earlier review indicated). Acres of grass, plenty of sun, shade from the gorgeous ancient oaks, comfortable benches and a fun looking kids' play structure. It's usually very quiet and peaceful, unless a festival is happening, then all bets are off. Occasionally you'll find artists and/or musicians showcasing their skills, but more typically you'll find someone (like me) walking their dog, folks lying around on the grass, reading in the shade or most likely a young mom watching her little ones enjoying the playground equipment. It's an urban park, so unfortunately it's closed after dark for the obvious safety reasons.

The 2.5 acre park is a nice retreat at the edge of the Frenchmen Street music venues. It was named Washington Square Park in 1838 after the Washington 141st Field Artillery Regiment, but it has been around since the early 1800's in the Faubourg Marigny, one of New Orleans' earliest suburbs. The park is a peaceful place, lined with benches for relaxation and a beautiful spot to meet up with friends and enjoy the shade of the historic oak trees. You can find street performers playing music in and around the area. It also occasionally hosts special events such as festivals, art markets and concerts.I'm happy to have this small open space park in my neighborhood. It can be a bit of a haven for the gutter punks during the day which brings it down a notch but nice to have a green space. Nice place to walk ur dog thru or relax on a nice day. For those visiting it's not a tourist destination just a local park.

This was a small but nice park in the middle of the French Quarter. There were dogs playing and barking, musicians playing and trees! It was just a lovely oasis is the middle of houses and restaurants and concrete.

Scruffy-Looking Man runs in front of me.SLM: Are those my sunglasses? Where did you get them? Pete: New York.SLM: Oh. Probably not mine then. Can I see them a sec?Pete: No, sorry.SLM: Why?! 'Cause I'll run off with them?Pete: Well, would you?SLM: (hangs head in shame) Yeah. I probably would. If you head over to Washington Square Park, you too, could have such enjoyable interactions with the general riff-raff of the Marigny. The park is closed at night, but during the day, there will most likely be musicians playing music and bums bumming around, but all in all, it is a safe, lively place to lay out on the grass, have a catch, or just stroll on through. Note the sign on the gate that bans dogs, drinks and bikes, and then see if you see a single person in the park who doesn't have either a dog, drink or bike. Bet you can't spot one.

A calm little park with lazy, low lying trees and a generally pleasant vibe. A good place to hang out while watching the New Years parade.

This is a great green space in the Marigny. It has play equipment for kids and benches for chilling out. The various people who seem to hangout in the park full-time will try to bum cigarettes, cash, whatever, but aren't too pushy. And it is dog friendly. It can be annoying that the many, many gates into this park are locked and it seems arbitrary which ones are chained and which ones are open. It's great that the park is just big enough to be the kickoff locale of various marches...most recently the Women's March.

Washington Square Park in New Orleans is a much prettier park than Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. You know I mean business because WSP was once my unofficial college campus.I recall a time when this park was all but deserted during the day (late 90s) and I'd hang out in here on tattoo breaks (I used to go to a shop on Frenchman). These days the park is lush and vibrant with just as many characters as WSP in NYC. Case in point, the other day when the Dancing Man 504 was doing his thing in the middle of the lawn. That is, his thing is *dancing*- you perverts! My favorite thing about the park though is that awesome sign out front which forbids bikes, dogs and booze. Think about that as you find yourself surrounded by all of the above. In droves. In short:+plenty of shade provided from the palms+nice green lawn that may or may not be the cleanest place to recline+lots of benches in the shade that are slightly more clean+lots of happy dogs frolicking about, thumbing their noses at the aforementioned sign+Confederacy of Cruisers Bike Tours making this their starting and ending point, also thumbing their noses at the aforementioned sign. (Eavesdrop to glean some interesting NOLA history. Wait. Don't do that.)+Ditto COC drinking tours that set up a bar right here to get things started right, the final laugh in the face of the aforementioned sign

By the end of the bars on Frencman St. Quiet square with some chubby palm trees. Little bit riff raffy people. Not much to see here.
