If you are in the back areas of Algiers, here is a place that you can get your snoball fix year round. That is correct...they are open year round. If you are not sure what flavor to get, do not fret because they give samples. One of the things you look for with a New Orleans style snoball is ice texture. If you find soft ice, like eating fresh snow, then you have good ice. Van's snoballs will give you good ice.Another factor is snoball eating is how bold the flavors are. Keep in mind that the syryups are being poured over ice, so wear flavors will have you with a watery "treat." This place has bold flavors. If you are not in the mood for a snoball, this place also sales various sweets and is a snack shack.Overall, this place has good flavors, ice and decent pricing. You should be happy stopping here.

Classic snowball place. An extensive menu of delicious flavors like you would expect at a snowball stand. They also offer hot dogs, and maybe a few other food options for those who need something a little more substantial. My favorite flavors are Tiger's Blood and Wedding Cake. Always a good treat to beat the summer heat!

Love Van's!!! I've lived on the Westbank my whole life and Van's has been my #1 snowball place since the beginning. The ice has a good consistency and there's soooo many great flavors to choose from. My favorites are ice cream and wedding cake but I've tried just about everything and I love it all. Whenever I need my snowball fix, this is my place!

The snow ball stand exploration continues! This time we decided to check out an old Algiers favorite: Van's. Van's is probably the oldest snowball stand on the Westbank. They have been serving the sweet stuff since the 70's, they have every flavor under the sun and they have extra goodies like nachos and hot dogs.I got my usual rainbow (I know that sounds boring, but every stand has a different version) and David got Dream Cream (ehh...). Mine was great! It had a lot of flavor without being overly sweet and I finished more than half of my medium/$2.50 snowball. David liked the Dream Cream, so we both left satisfied. The ice isn't the finest I have ever had, but it held the syrup well. I like that there's a picnic table in a shaded area on the property, so you can enjoy your treat on site. The hours on here say they close at 7, but I think they serve snowballs as long as they have customers, and last week they had customers well past 7:30.

This establishment needs to do better. I recently got sick on two occasions last year after eating their snoballs, but I couldn't say for sure if it was their snoballs that made me sick or somethjng else I had eaten. I haven't been back since last year but decided to give them a try today and not only was the service slow...but I found two bugs at the bottom of my snoball in the ice cream. There's no way a bug could've flown in my cup and gotten all the way to the bottom of the snoball so it was served with bugs. I warn you to stay away from this establishment.

I love Van's. IMHO Van's is the best snowball stand on the westbank. They've been there since I was a little kid (I'm 32 now) and when I lived in Algiers Van's was my special treat. The building is a cute little striped stand. The staff is super sweet. Soft ice which they make themselves. A variety of flavors including sugar free and cream flavors. My personal favorite is the cantaloupe. They are open to experimentation and will let you mix or stripe your 'ball. They will customise the juiciness just ask! They have a gravel parking lot so no worries about street parking. The line can seem long but they move fairly fast. They are open year round and also serve coffee, hot chocolate, and ice cream. Mommy notes: Gives plenty of napkins, will put snowballs in larger cups, outdoor seating, very kid friendly staff, several clear flavors.

Heard people complaining about the syrup before I even reached the lady at the counter. Then she barely put syrup in my snowball. I had to ask her for more. Saying "oh I only have a little bit", not my problem ma'am!

I think some people are a little bit confused. There are two Van's snowball locations on the Westbank. One-off General Meyer, and one behind the post office.

I've been to this place, four different times and they've been closed. Most recently I went Tuesday May3rd. Is this business still open ? This place is on the way to work. If they were open ,I would of bought something every time. Cars pulling up asking are they open .

This is my second time going there and my last time. The first time I went there was hardly any syrup and it wasn't too good. The second time I went and asked for extra syrup and my snowball tasted like chemicals. The snowball stand is very slow and dirty. The ice is not the best either.
