I booked a walking tour of the garden district and I am happy to report that I had a fantastic time, despite the heat and the humidity. Our tour guide was very considerate and made sure we were under the shade when we stopped for a little lesson in history. Our tour guide was Harris. He was very nice and very knowledgeable about the area and about New Orleans in general. He even sent recommendations of things to do and places to eat after the tour!During the tour, we stopped by several different houses with major significance or owned by famous, rich people or a place noteworthy because they might have been film locations at one point (Benjamin Button house, for example). We also learned quite a bit about the history of the area, we were shown little remnants of the past (tiled street signs, posts for the horses/carriage, concrete steps for the ladies back in the days so their dresses do not touch the dirty ground, etc). It was a very informative tour that ended back at the meeting place, the Lafayette cemetery.Harris ended the tour with the history of the cemetery and the ways people bury the dead. Overall, it was a very enjoyable tour that I would gladly do again the next time I come to visit!

Lee was the tour guide and he was entertaining, hilarious, and delightful! It's abundantly clear how much he loves what he does, which made the tour that much more impactful. The two-hour tour flew by as we walked through the beautiful neighborhood. It was a great introduction to the garden district through the lens of architecture and history. Some reviews said Lee is over-animated, and while I do not disagree that he turned on the dramatics, I believe it added to the experience rather than detracting. Other reviews said there's a lot of standing around. This was very much a stop-and-go tour because we would pause in front of houses to learn about its architectural influences and history. But that's exactly what I want and expect out of a history and architecture tour.

Ask for Harris when you book your tour! This is my third visit to New Orleans and I'm amazed at how much there is to learn and see and do. I wanted time outside of the French Quarter and booked this tour. We met at the Lafayette Cemetery #1 which is on the historic places register. We learned about the burial practices in New Orleans. We learned about the early history of the district, the families, and even a little scandal and intrigue. My favorite stop on the tour was the house used to film the third season of American Horror Story: Coven. Harris was a knowledgeable and entertaining guide. He delved beyond highlights and I learned so much during my time.

Garden District Walking TourHarris was our guide on this incredible tour of the beautiful, historic NOLA Garden District. I don't have enough words to celebrate Harris. He is so steeped in the authentic history of the district and the city. Harris is a lifelong resident of NOLA and historic scholar of the history of the district and the city. He provides interesting, entertaining storytelling that leaves you informed, educated, yearning to learn more. He also provides by text notes, recommended reading, references and related information about the sites visited on the tour and relevant topics of interest for the visitor to gain further insight into the times, places, events and people touched on in the tour. Don't miss this tour with Harris as your guide. "Let's take a walk, family."
