These are nice and extensive fields of flowers, and one of those things that isn't world famous but tourists ought to stop by to appreciate.

Brief and beautiful! I stopped in 2x last weekend since I think they'll mostly be done by next. Tulips take a huge amount of work in South Louisiana. You have to chill the bulbs to get them to bloom and cannot leave them in the ground over the summer because the moisture will cause them to rot.Huge thanks to City Park and its gardeners for working to have this short moment of beauty and exuberant spring into our lives.

So, for those of you not in the "know", tulips have a pretty brief life. I learned this the hard way last year when I went to see the tulips at City Park and they were all dead. Womp womp. This year I didn't make it as early as I would have liked, but I did make a special trip out there today to go and take my pictures and finally experience the tulip field. It was as lovely as social media told me it would be. The tulips are right next to Big Lake and are in all of the pretty colors of the rainbow. There's a little rope separating you from them, so please do not tiptoe through the tulips.Believe it or not, they are already dying so get out there asap if you want to catch them this year. I wonder if the location is poor because they are in direct sunlight. When I went today they were baking in the heat. I have no idea- a plant expert I am not and I do not posses a green thumb. I'm just here for the flowery eye candy. The tulips usually pop up around mid February each year.

My Facebook memories were a good thing today, as it reminded me that this day last year, I went to see the Tulips at City Park. So, I went, hoping that I wasn't too late (or too early). I was not either of those. They did look as if they were holding on for dear life though. This isn't a spectacular show, as they are a delicate flower, and New Orleans weather can be harsh. And this is nothing like the Woodburn, OR Tulip shindig, which is tulips as far as the eye can see for acres, but this is amazing. The beauty of the flowers beside the lake, in front of the museum sets me in awe of this amazing miracle. There are ropes setting them off, but I was kind of angered as I saw a couple making out nearby, holding the leash of their dogs, but because they were not paying attention, the dogs were munching on the flowers. That is not cool. Be careful, because they are right by the walking/bike path and it is easy to be so amazed by the flowers that you are blocking those trying to excersize. Be aware of your surroundings! Hopefully next year, I will remember sooner so I can enjoy them in their full glory. Come see the flowers while you can! Or come next year! The shelf life is short, so seize the day and enjoy!

This is one of those gems of NOLA that I only became aware of through Yelp. So thanks y'all! I consider myself a flower enthusiast so it was a special treat on one of my rather frequent walks through City Park to stop and smell these flowers. The blooms were full and the colors were amazing. Against the Big Lake backdrop on a sunny afternoon, the Tulips looked great! Don't have expectations of a large sprawling expanse of tulips, but this planting is fairly sized with plenty to look at. It is located in front of NOMA off the round-about. Respect the yellow rope barriers and watch out for bikes passing by as you become mesmerized by the colors!
