As far as I can tell, the only difference between the Moon Walk and the French Quarter Riverwalk is that the needles of the latter have powdered sugar on them.Since the RQRW seems to be just the northeast end of the Moonwalk, I will review the Moonwalk, which the city describes as a "scenic outdoor walkway...for strolling, sitting, and enjoying riverfront views." The views include steamboats, bridges, and a nicely landscaped but sparse park area with black metal lampposts, iron benches, and square planting beds. Nobody walks backwards with sliding steps.A potentially dangerous walk down some incomplete stone steps past large, uneven stones full of trash and a few needles, I reached the Mississippi and stuck my toe in. That was four days ago and it's still green. The walk also has a monuments, one to the Immigrant, one to the Holocaust, and one to Old Man River, an 18-foot-high, 17-ton block of Carrara marble that looks like an unhappy, blockheaded, and handless alien with a Brillo pad for genitals. I'd be unhappy, too. There's also a placard designating the Execution Of Jean Baptiste Baudrau II, a local trader killed at the site by the breaking wheel. That means he was strapped down for agonizing mutilation, by breaking his leg bones, then arms and ribs. If the operator was "nice", he'd do the neck next. Otherwise, he'd braid the limp limbs into the wheel and let him hang out for up to 3 days before getting decapitated or lit on fire, the body left there for the animals. All this for locking his Blue Bike out of the designated area. (Actually, he was implicated in officer death and prison mutiny where he was locked up for illegally salvaging wrecked ships). Jean's remains were thrown in the river. Nice photo op.Side note: He was the great-great-great-great-great grandfather of cousins Jimmy Buffett. That's not on the placard- they don't want people singing Margarittaville at a memorial. At 3,500 feet long, it's roughly the size of the suspended part of Golden Gate or the track at Turfway Park, the fall off Angel Falls. This is equal to three cruise ships, two Empire State Buildings, or 28,000 needles laid end to end.Anyway, we rode our bikes along the bumpy path. It is not, in the words of Sir Robert Thomas of 20 Matchbox, smooth.

After you visit Cafe du Monde, walk over to The Moon Walk. Check out the view of the mighty Mississippi River and Jackson Square. Listen to someone that will probably be there playing live music. It's a nice spot to stop and rest for a few minutes before continuing your French Quarter adventures.

The Moon Walk spans 3,500 feet along the Mississippi River from Governor Nicholls Street Wharf to Woldenberg Park. It is named after the former mayor of New Orleans Maurice "Moon" Landrieu. It's located next to Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter so it's a great place for a walk after downing some beignets and coffee. From the park you can see views of the bridge and the many ships and shipping containers that come through the river. Occasionally there might be some street performers playing music so it's a nice stroll with some nice sights and sounds.

The Moon Walk is a small River front path that goes from the Wharf to the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf to Woldenburg Park. It is named after former New Orleans Mayor Moon Landrieu, who led its development. It was opened in 1975 and is a well paved area that runs along the Mississippi. It is between the River and some train tracks and is located between the Washington Artillery Park. Prior to what is is today the Walk was the site of many wharves. It was not always the well paved machine you see today, the walk use to be constructed of wood planks. There is a paid parking lot right in front of the walk the walk is very picturesque. There seems to a an impromptu tradition started here too. There is a metal gate that is locked to stop people from going out onto a pier. People have started putting their own locks on the fence. It is covered in hundreds, if not thousands of them. I would not call this a destination spot, it is more of a bridge to get somewhere else like the aquarium, Woldenburg Park, or the French Market depending on which way you go. There is not much to it, beside a nice walk way and an awesome view of the River facing towards the West Bank. You will probably just wind up stumbling across this place and not even knowing versus actually seeking it out or being part of an itinerary.

No idea why this is called the Moon Walk? Maybe on the map it looks like the crescent ? Still, name aside, Mississippi River is astonishing. This beauty/monster is on the verge of splitting good ol' USA into two in maybe couple hundred of years depending how severe global warming accelerates. It has been the waterway and life line for this city for hundreds of years. Science pondering aside, the Moonwalk sits south of the French Quarters and runs a fairly long distance. At the time of writing section of it is under construction. Did manage to walk a bit on a balmy 21* celsius winter day. It's beauty, the walk and the river" is a good place to visit after all the noise and bustle of mega tourist magnet of French Quarter. If you like walks, waterfront and have a need to exercise after a heavy sugary meal from Cafe Du Monde, this is a good place to walk, run, or burn it off.

The Moon Walk is free to the general public. It has been rebuilt and expanded. The beautiful salt and pepper brick walkway is cooler for bare feet if you like They have expanded the deck area with more seating available and decorative planters The most enjoyable part here for me are the cement step that descend into the Mighty Mississippi River YES YOU CAN ACTUALLY PUT YOUR FEET IN THE WATER HERE OR TOUCH IT WITH YOUR HANDS WHEN THE WATER IS HIGHBUT PLEASE BE SMART AND DON'T GET CRAZY AND SLIP ON THE ALGAE AND GET SWEPT AWAY BY THE CURRENT ABSOLUTELY PROCEED WITH CAUTION NO SWIMMING HERE Or be safe and just sit on the steps and enjoy the pleasantries of what the river has to offer Please feel free to bring your coffee out here to sit drink and enjoy the river view up close Or a bottle of wine in the evening and watch the sunset and the moon rise

From what I saw of the moon walk through the mist was enticing enough for me to want to definitely come back and enjoy the banks of the Mississippi River! It made a great back drop too, and made me feel like I might be in one of the scenes of Foggy London, with Jack the Ripper wandering the desolate and empty streets... we had parked our car next to the public parking lot there, so, we got to see the place twice. I can only imagine how amazing this place must be when the sun is shining and bustling again with life and people! Oh! And there is a sunscreen selling machine! A first for me! I don't think I have ever seen that anywhere else in the world!
