This is now under the name Faux Meaux, but is still a good enough time with live music and friendly bartenders. The drinks are cold and they have live music.

I love this bar! This is an old timers bar (which I prefer). The Max has been around forever and it is known as the place to go to hear great live music. You will see on almost any night older couples dancing the night away on the dance floor whether there is a live band or just the jukebox playing. Think retro 80's bar atmosphere with their red lighting and old wooden bars. The bar is open 24 hrs and they have 2-for-1 drinks everyday from 6am-6pm (how awesome is that?!!). The bar patrons here are all courteous and upbeat. One of the best nights to come is Sunday night when The Yat Pack is there. They are there every Sunday and they play incredible swing and big band music. I've been listening to big band music for almost 20 yrs now and it is great music....classic.Good bartenders, cheap drinks, great atmosphere, and awesome big band tunes! Now you know why The Max has been around so long!

There is a rapidly growing special place in my heart for this divey old school Metairie gem. I love the old timey Rat Pack, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe tribute photos on the wall. They make a killer martini here, and I can enjoy sipping away while the band plays throw back songs ranging from the 1950's-1960's era. You absolutely WILL be the youngest person in here if you are anywhere below the age of 55 + in this joint. But hey, you got to give it to them, these regular patrons are nearly a hundred years old and they still got the dance moves! Literally, I saw a woman there with her oxygen tubes in her nose but that didn't slow her down from enjoying her Irish Coffee one bit! It's a delightful people watching event and I can't wait to see some more bands play. I personally love that era of music and I'm glad I found a place so close by that caters to a more classic musical era. Now if only I could dance...If you are a young man, which basically means anywhere under 50 years old here, little old ladies WILL try to dance with you. My partner was nearly ravaged with attention from women old enough to be his grandmother. But hey, it's all a good time if you join in! They are more than eager to teach your young self an old school dance trick or two! It is a BIT smokey in here. I usually can't handle that sort of thing in excess but I will say it is not overly smokey, Or at least not so far that I've seen, and they do light lots of candles at the bar to keep it smelling better than usual. I say definitely give the Max a chance! They make a killer martini, and while the crowd will make you feel young, the music will simply make you feel classic. :-)

Great little neighborhood bar. It's an upscale dive bar. They have live music several nights a week. They get major bonus points for having wine!

The Max is a fun bar featuring music from the Rat Pack Era. The crowd is mostly retirees but still a nice place to get a drink and watch people having fun. The live band are great, was a $5 cover when my Wife and I went.

I am not to sure what to say here. I must have arrived on a "special" night. Let me say that me and my buddy were the only people under the age of 62 in this place. I'll give those old folks credit though, they were dancing their plaid pants off. I mean really getting down with it. The guy in the motorized cart was even getting some action. The whole place had the aroma of the color red; I can't really explain that. The band was playing on banjos and I respect that. There was a cover but it was only 5 dollars or as they asked for it a "shilling". However, that cover included a drink ticket so that is not so bad for a beer and entertainment. The bartender was super nice and even gave us koozies for our drinks. Maybe she thought we were children in retrospect.it did seem like a nice clean wholesome bar. I'll see you in 30 years The MaxThe Good:Drink ticket came with cheap cover pricelong barnice bartenderThe Bad:not what I expectedold lady winked at menot a huge beer collectionMuch older CrowdThe Ugly:The lights in this place hurt my eyes. I felt like someone stained my pupils red
