What a gorgeous space! LOVE the renovation of this historic home. Seriously the buidling is beautiful. But that's not all! The art on display is incredibly varied and really impressive/moving/inspiring/calming depending on the piece. I'm a big fan of highly curated collections like these. It really helps you see the collector/curators vision. I was lucky enough to visit because of fellow yelper Teneha had rented this space for her birthday extravaganza! So much fun and it was wonderful seeing all her friends & family celebrating her awesomeness. Their special exhibitions are interesting and diverse. I just wish they were keeping regular hours, despite the hours posted on their website, the front page says "open by appointment only."

The George & Leah McKenna Museum is a wonderful place to African American art in historical reference. The museum also hosts events. I was recently there for the swearing in of the first African American Coroner in New Orleans 300 year history. This year is also New Orleans' 300 year anniversary. The McKenna Museum became part of history! I absolutely love this place!

This place is amazing. They only offer tours by appointment but it's worth it. Kim is extremely knowledgeable about the art pieces and friendly. I enjoyed the unique artwork, the use of the space, the overall environment, and both the ladies who work there.

What a gorgeous space! I was very impressed with this museum. It is a lovely place to host an event or wedding reception. The paintings and pieces were absolutely gorgeous. We took a self-guided tour and the curator was on hand to answer any questions we had regarding the museum's history, specific pieces and artists. I'm impressed!

NOLA is so much more than Bourbon Street and this amazing gem is truly representative of the rich history and agency that black people in this area have employed. I learned of the McKenna museum simply by googling black museums in New Orleans and they are by appointment only, so I submitted a request online. They got back to me very quickly with a scheduled tour time on a Tuesday morning and were early arriving to it. We received an amazingly informative and dynamic tour from the fabulous Kim, who is literally a wealth of knowledge. The house had been previously dilapidated before being purchased and renovated by the McKenna family and the exhibits are themed by room, ranging from themed around black men, black women, voodoo, and more. All of the art was amazing. You must, must go.

We wanted to experience the culture of NOLA, and included the museum as a way to become more familiar. We were not disappointed. Kim was our guide throughout the museum. This young lady will be someone to reckon with in the art world. She is very knowledgeable and articulate in her craft! Be amazing as you get that PHD! The art work was breath taking and moving! I was in awe of the talent that surrounded me! Thank you!!
