I really had high hopes for this place. This restaurant was so cute and welcoming. The waitress so friendly, patient and knowledgeable of the menu. I was excited to try the food because they spoke with so much passion. I ordered the meal for two: 6 pieces of fish, 4 hush puppies, 10 shrimp and 2 fries. How disappointed were my husband and I when the fish was really 2 filets cut 3 times each, the hush puppies were missing and there were enough fries to feed 4 people. The food was subpar and made me regret not cooking at home. I'm not sure how we were missing items and the restaurant was empty. Highly disappointed.

The food was good. The prices were ridiculous. Example: We used to order the basic meal, THE SHACK a time or two a month. It cost $17.25. We went back last week and THE SHACK now costs a whopping $25.00. I can understand a modest price increase now and then to balance out the rising costs the restaurants have to pay for the products they sell. But a 45% increase from $17.25 to $25.00? Ridiculous! They won't be seeing us any more.

This little restaurant is attached to a gas station/convenience store and offers dine-in, takeout, and a drive-thru window. The parking lot and dining area are both a decent size, getting to it is easy, the restaurant itself was clean, the staff was friendly, and my order was ready quickly. I liked the hush puppies and their special sauce was interesting. Good marks for all of that. In terms of "meh," trying to sub red beans and rice for french fries cost $2. Mind you, small fries and small red beans are both listed on the menu for $2. I know upcharges for substitutions are not unusual, but usually it's not the full regular price of the side. Maybe the waitress didn't know how to do substitutions in their checkout system, or maybe they don't actually allow substitutions (which is a different problem). The shrimp could've used a pinch more seasoning, but when paired with ketchup or the special sauce they were fine. So the upper end of "meh."Unfortunately there were two things in the bad column: the red beans on the coleslaw. The beans were too bland and dry for my tastes. I ended up doctoring them significantly by adding hot sauce, Tony Chachere's, and a little water. The coleslaw was worse: dry and flavorless. It desperately needed at some black pepper, and lemon juice or vinegar. I probably could have doctored it up too, but I didn't feel like it and ended up throwing most of the coleslaw away. This place has $5 Monday specials. If you want to try them, stick to that, and avoid the beans and coleslaw.

I don't go "down the road" nearly as much as I used to in my younger days. However, I have been wanting to try Crazy Cajun's for several months; and this past Friday (2/2/18), I finally took that ride down the road and paid them a visit. To be honest, the ride there from Lakeview was less than 30 minutes, and we left at 5 PM. Therefore, it's actually not a long ride at all. The building is unassuming from the outside but is actually quite nice on the inside, and the Cajun decor can be seen throughout. Kudos for everything for being so clean. But this place is all about the fish. The menu is fairly simple, as nearly all of it revolves around fried catfish. There are four catfish dinners, and each comes with fries, hush puppies, cole slaw and a remoulade style dipping sauce. The "Feeding Frenzy" is the biggest meal and comes with 8 pieces of fish. The "Top Feeder" has 6 pieces, the the "Bottom Feeder" has pieces and the "Minnow", aka kid's meal has 3 pieces. There is also a "Tackle Box" dinner that comes with fried fish AND fried shrimp. Rounding out the menu is the "Shrimp Box", Shrimp po-boy and shrimp tacos. My wife and son are not big eaters; therefore, the Tackle Box was more than enough for them both. Since I am a big eater, I opted for the Top Feeder and I left completely satiated without being overstuffed. Now about the food:The fish: The catfish, in my opinion, was fried to order, as it came out piping hot. I have no doubt that this fish is as fresh as it gets, and was probably never frozen. It was fried to perfection and had a nice battered crust. However, it was a little salty for my liking, as I do not cook with much salt. All in all, this was some really good fish. The shrimp: The shrimp were actually perfectly fried and perfectly seasoned. And these aint no "shrimpy" shrimp, excuse my pun. I'd say they were large or extra large and probably ranged between 25-35 count per pound. The french fries: Nothing spectacular here. Just your garden variety crinkle cut fries. The cole slaw: Kudos to Crazy Cajuns for making a slaw that I actually liked. The low mayo saturation made for a very good slaw that was not soggy and I would definitely recommend it.The sauce: The remoulade style dipping sauce is a nice alternative from the traditional tartar sauce. It's not as spicy as your traditional remoulade sauce and was a nice change.Did I mention they also have a drive up window so that you can pick up your "to-go" orders that you called in over the phone? This window is a big hit, as it seems like over half their business was for "to-go" orders. Kudos to them for recognizing that many people, including myself, like to pick up dinner on the way home and sometimes don't want to have to get out of our cars. All in all, this is a nice family run restaurant serving up really good fish & shrimp. It is "down-the-road" recommended by me.

The Fish Shack has the best catfish I've ever eaten. It's perfectly fried and not greasy. You order at the counter and your food is brought to the table. Staff is very friendly. Many locals were at the restaurant when we went. They serve salads with fresh shrimp. If you still have room for dessert get the homemade bread pudding. We will definitely be back.

We ordered a $10 shrimp dinner and received and order with tiny salad shrimp. This must be a joke. This is most pathetic attempt at a shrimp dinner I've ever seen.

Ordered the #7 (shrimp Tackle Box) and 3 boudin balls for take-out, about $14 inc tax. During ordering I was asked if I "would like extra crazy" sauce and I said sure, upon which 50 cents was added to my bill. Then a long wait while the lone cook prepped several meals ahead of me. Finally got my food and it smelled great. But the Boudin balls were overcooked and tasted burnt. Coleslaw was nasty/rotten, threw that away. Battered shrimp was excellent. Hushpuppies were delicious. The fries were good crinkle cut fries. Crazy sauce was awesome and I'm glad I paid for an extra one. Had the boudin balls been cooked correctly, and the coleslaw not rotten, I might would have given this experience 4 stars.
