Chef Pete prepares so much stinkin' good food it's hard to believe he's the only one cooking. I had a yummy, garlicky green salad and perfectly done fish (with crispy skin!) and eggplant that makes me remember that I love well prepared eggplant. But the menu changes every day. It's carry out only. It's a hole in the wall in Algiers Point. Take the ferry over, and take a break from the Quarter.

An unbelievable experience. A single-man show---he cooks, cleans, and runs the register. We were happy to wait in line for 30 minutes or so, it's part of the experience. We had the salmon in shrimp sauce, a key lime pie, and fried chicken, and all of them were incredible. The highlight of our visit to NOLA.

I wish I had a chef like Peter back home. My boyfriend and I went to the Appetite Repair Shop for our last dinner in New Orleans since we were staying a few blocks away. We both got rigatoni with meatballs. We really could have done with one meal shared between the both of us because the containers were heavy and the meatballs were HEFTY. It was my favourite meal of the trip, and that's saying A LOT because it was previously the three beignets I ate in one sitting. The restaurant is take-out only, but you get to see the chef work his magic in the kitchen. He posts menus daily on the Appetite Repair Shop Facebook page. I still dream of the rigatoni.

So I hunted around Yelp to find a healthy, reasonably priced spot to get dinner after a walking tour of Algiers Point, and hit upon this as a well-reviewer option.I'll admit that walking in and waiting for about 40 minutes for 4 parties to be served from the take-out only counter left me with a few doubts, but at that point it was too late to contemplate much else, so we stuck with it.That was not a mistake. We were rewarded with an amazing meal for 5 for less than $100, one which would have cost double that at any restaurant, and which would be hard to find in most. The menu changes on a rolling basis, clearly, but when we were there, there were five mains on offer: lamb kofta tagine, brisket, pan roasted salmon, shrimp farfalle, musabaha with flatbread. Each was excellent, though the brisket was astonishingly so. I can't offer any further explanation, so please see some pretty pictures. The chef had owned a nice restaurant in NOLA before Katrina and worked in some of the best places in DC before returning, and it was clear this was a labor of love.

I'm a big fan of Chef Pete's cuisine. It's absolutely delicious and there are no cakes to be found in the crab. Just glorious jumbo lump crab in what resembles a crab cake. Once, I just happened to be there when he made the first slice into a most beautiful roast beef and, yes, it was food porn. You never know what to expect with an ever changing menu and beware - the hours are fast & fierce as he often sells out quick. It's definitely worth fighting for a place in line.

I'm gonna keep this simple, because he has so many glorious dishes that I can't even begin to tell you about all of them. But! I'm a total hummus snob. I think my homemade hummus is better than everyone's. Except I had Chef Pete's tonight and goddamnit, his is better. Like, all I dreamed mine is x5. Plus he makes dishes for his Middle Eastern Platter that I am completely incapable of making. And they are divine. The wait can be lengthy (fresh made to order is not fast, y'all!) but you will probably get some good conversation and neighborhood gossip if you're into it. And you will have a fantastic meal to eat after.

Such a hidden gem! Peter, the chef, is crazy talented. Truly a one-man show, he cooks up an entire menu daily with dishes from all over the world, extremely generous portions, and Lord sweet baby Jesus do not sleep on his desserts! That key lime pie was the best I've ever had. Pork chop and potato dumplings were enough for a family of three, and had me feeling like i was back in Munich. Crabcakes were expensive, but i understood why when i realized they're softball-sized cakes of solid lump crabmeat- out of this world. Not to mention the fact that his credit card machine was down today, so he handed me my food, scribbled my first name on a notebook, and sent me on my way with instructions to bring cash "whenever." Best dinner I've had since moving to the Point, hands down!

Rumor has it that the owner was a chef at a restaurant across the river, and it shows. The place is hidden on a residential street corner, truly his very own kitchen, covered in containers of his ingredients. The line was out the door 5 minutes after opening, so we knew something was up. We chatted with a local who heard of the lasagna on his neighborhood Facebook group, so we ordered the same thing, the second to last piece of lasagna. It was rich and filled with meat, slightly crispy on the bottom as I imagine it's hard to take dishes out of the oven when you're a one man show. Overall it was a lovely first dinner in New Orleans and if we don't feel like going to a sitdown place the rest of this weekend, we may go back to try the chicken salad.
