My family and I rented canoes from Swamp Explorers last week and had the best time! Matthew not only came out and met us on Christmas Day to get us our canoes but spent time getting us in them and showing us the ropes! The bayou byways were easy to follow and beautiful, as well! Very reasonably priced for four hours and a great day! I will be bringing any visitors back to Swamp Explorers! Thanks, Matthew!

I booked a kayak rental online and received a confirmation email detailing the time and location. No one showed up and the listed phone number was sent to voicemail. What a waste.

Swamp Explorers was so awesome to work with for our 4-hour bayou canoe trip! We can't wait to go back. The four of us were visiting from out of town, and DJ and his wife were super friendly and flexible when the weather changed and we had to switch our reservation. When we arrived, DJ quickly put our two boats in the water. The canoes look new and in great condition and had little dry box storage compartments. It was a pretty windy day, and we fell assured by them checking on us from their jet ski to make sure we had found our way to the spot we were aiming for! We saw an alligator, abundant birds including a HUGE heron, huge jumping fish, and beautiful, peaceful scenery once we were out of the main channel. We had the bayou to ourselves for much of the time, but every boat that went by was very friendly and slowed down to make no wake. When we got back to home base, we had to wait a little while for a Lyft to come get us, so we visited we the family and DJ even let us sample the frog legs he was cooking on the grill--delicious. Thank you so much for the best and most unforgettable adventure of our trip. It was such a nice respite from the city!

as long you're cool with going out on your own and paddling about 20 minutes to get to the bayou, then this is a great option. Lots to see and it was a fun and memorable experience

They were very friendly and accommodating (we had to change both our start time and the number of boats we needed these things were done without issue). The rental, payment, and return process was easy. Proper amount of guidance and safety equipment provided. I would recommend Swamp Explorers if you are interested in renting canoes.

This experience started on Bayou Barataria which is part of the Intercoastal Waterway. That's fine, we saw a couple of huge barges being pushed by tugs. After paddling for about 30 minutes on the Intercoastal, we went to the right, into a long wide man made canal, not a bayou. Pretty enough, wide with interesting vegetation and birds. They had told us to follow this canal then look for another turn to the right to go into the park. 45 minutes later we finally reached the right turn into the park. It was another man made canal. At that point we had had enough. We did not see a natural bayou, swamp or marshland during our entire paddle of 3 hours!

Fun & affordable way to see the beauty of the bayou! Thank you to DJ and Lisa for their southern hospitality while accommodating us with kayaks and fishing equipment. The birds must have been hiding today but the gators were amongst us.....thank you for being so flexible and responsive with our reservation. Good luck with the business!

This place just opened, about 3 weeks ago, and we found it on Groupon. Compared to other kayaking rentals, this is such a steal! And for a full 4 hours. Frank, the owner, was friendly and helpful from the reservation phone call to after kayaking. I went with one other friend, and we chose kayaking over canoeing because we have never kayaked. Frank assured us we would get the feel of it very fast, and he was right. We felt secure in our kayaks. We were a bit apprehensive in the beginning, nervous and unsure, but Frank patiently listed out the pros and cons of kayaks vs. canoes, what to do on the Bayou, and assuring us. The trip was totally worth it! The Bayou is about 10 mins from the shore, which Frank explains. The Bayou area is quiet and beautiful, not many boats at all, and many alligators. The alligators do not bother you are all- in fact, when you get closer they swim away. After kayaking, we were sitting in front of the cabin waiting for our Uber. Frank gave us free water bottles and chatted with us, introducing us to some New Orleans information and answering our questions. Wonderful and local experience!
