The altar of St. Mary's. Simply magnificent!
When we visited the Shrine of Blessed Father Seelos one afternoon, we were able to join a tour of the entire church.

Although I have been attending mass here occasionally since June, I am just getting around to writing a review. I can vividly remember the first time I attended a mass and being in complete awe of the statues presented above the altar. At the top of the altar, God and Jesus are holding a crown together with Mary below them and the crown above her head. It's a breathtaking image that I've never seen in any other church. Every time I attend mass, I find a new statue or hidden meaning painted on or around the altar. This is something truly to see. Besides the amazing architecture, Fr. Richard and Fr. Allan are both wonderful. I know I can expect a gratifying and meaningful homily from either. Also, this is the home of the National Shrine of Blessed Father Seelos. The shrine and museum is worth the trip to St. Mary's. Learning about Father Seelos life is extremely humbling and interesting. The welcome center is so wonderful. They will play the video on Blessed Fr Seelos' life in the neat theatre they have whether you have a group of 20 or just 2. Catholic or not, this church is something for everyone to check out. New Orleans is pretty lucky to have this gem.

This is a beautiful and church in the LGD. Built in1860, and declared a national historic landmark in 1974. I had the honor of getting married here and have enjoyed coming to mass. The beautiful hard wood floor aisle, the hand crafted ornate stained glass windows, the breathtaking alter. It's all so incredible to look at. Every time I am there I find myself looking in awe at the craftsmanship of the church and think how they just don't make them like this anymore. I don't live super close to this church, but I go out of my way to attend mass here.

Really pretty church in the Lower Garden district and a great alternative to the Cathedral. We went to the 10:30 Mass and it was a solid homily. Like many NOLA churches, ornate with lots of statues. Since it is an older church, the pews are a bit tight, and the kneelers are hard. But you can fit a family of 4 in one pew comfortably.Bonus that I didn't know about is that this is also home to the Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos shrine.

Below is an email I sent to the church after my wedding. I received no response. It's a beautiful church and the priest was awesome but I don't recommend having your service here I'm hoping that after sending this email I will feel better and be able to enjoy my honeymoon and sleep. Father Gene was great and the church is beautiful, but despite all of that we would defiantly not have gotten married here if we knew our family and bridal party was going to be treated and talked to so poorly. We are very upset about this and regret not saying anything at the time. I am so upset that it obviously keeps me up and I can't stop thinking about it even on my honeymoon. There are stern polite ways people can get there point across without being rude, pushy or lying. We did not pay 1500$ for our family and friends to travel from NJ, NY, CA and even Canada to be treated in such a matter. The one coordinator was very rude and disrespectful in the way she talked to our family. I really don't understand why this happened. Our family did not do anything to be treated this way. I have been in and been to many weddings and this is the first time I have ever seen people be treated like this. It was horrible. Our family and bridal party expressed their feelings to us and we witnessed it. After what was a great ceremony and everyone was happy, our bridal party and family immediately were getting orders shouted at them, rushed for pictures and then pushed out the door. They way the "orders" were given to them was disrespectful and rude. It really ruined our wedding and took away from what a great job Father Gene did. Our family was lied to in church with a coordinator saying the "limo bus" was leaving...despite the fact the bride and groom where still in the church. It is upsetting when you have regrets. Instead of people remembering the ceremony and our vows, our memory and their memory are shadowed by the mistreatment receive. We just really expected our family and wedding party to be treated better and talked to in a respectful manner. It is hard dealing with regret and we have been praying about it hoping to find some peace with it. And hopefully after reading this email it will ensure a change for someone else and they will be treated better. Sincerely Domenica IrulaCarlos Irula

We attend mass here simply because it is a very warm and welcoming parish. We also had the honor to celebrate the Holy Sacrament of Marriage here and it was an incredible experience. Our guests were awstruck by the beauty of the church. Our experience working with everyone from Father Thibodeau, to Lillian in office to the wonderful coordinators was wonderful. Also the organist Robert Zanca is very talented and we were honored to have an organ from 1861 play. Simply a wonderful house of worship.

We visited this church on a lark while on a recent trip to New Orleans. It was probably the most-meaningful thing we did on our trip. The church itself is magnificent as mentioned in other reviews. More-importantly, it is the national shrine for Francis Xavier Seelos who was deified by the Catholic Church for his service to the poor. He died in New Orleans in 1867 from yellow fever while serving others who were suffering and dying from the same. We came away from this church with a much-different perspective of New Orleans before, during, and after the Civil War.

I was married here last summer. It's the perfect church for a wedding. 1. It's breathtakingly beautiful. (All of my guests couldn't stop talking about how magnificent it was) 2. The wedding coordinators were so kind and answered all of my [many] questions. 3. There's a parking lot for guests or plenty of street parking 4. Availability on the calendar so I could have the date and time I wanted. The list goes on and on. It's a must book for your wedding!
